  1. yeah...it's on expired Oregon plates...I don't really want to explain to a cop why my drivers license and insurance are at one address in california and the out of date registration is in klamath falls Oregon and that I don't actually have an Oregon address currently haha
  2. Well, due to a series of events resulting in expired tags on my truck and not being able/willing to renew the tags by this weekend my truck wont make it. I may still stop by in the mini just to take some pictures. Especially if anyone was interested in cruising out into the hills in west marin for some more fun shoot locations ?
  3. I've got a "new" L16 going in my pickup and I'm back in Marin. I'll finally be able to make it to one of these!
  4. And if we have any toyota guys around here, you'll appreciate what he had lying in the shed out back... The red car aka Cherry Poppins just gave up her 16 valve 4A-GE for a 20 valve silvertop unit. The 3s in the shed was originally intended to go in Cherry but the 16v has been giving up and she's a daily so a more bolt in swap became necessary. The white mr2 (aka Shittier Bang Bang) was a car he picked up cheap, used some of his spares to get cleaned up and running nice and is in the process of being sold. The Corolla is another buddies who came out for MR2 shenanigans. Seeing this much Toyota in one place made me really miss my first gen 4Runner... :(
  5. This thread needs a revival, and I just happened to visit a buddy with an MR2 problem.
  6. Got the points issue solved in just as sketchy a manner as the valve clearance solution. Used the secondary points as a spare set and set dwell so I'm running a dual points distributor on one set of points haha
  7. Yeah, I'm all for electronic ignition buuuut I sort of need to get back to oregon and don't really have a matchbox lying around...
  8. And on the test drive she did well for a while then the distributor killed itself...
  9. Haha well, I'm at a home away from home so I've been working in a garage but I'm away from most of my tools and more importantly in this case my spare parts. I have on other complete head. It's a W58 but it would work. I plan on swapping heads and rebuilding this one with steel valve seats when I get back.
  10. She runs! I hope to be heading home tomorrow. I will have feeler gauges at the ready for quick checks haha. PSA: this is not a permanent solution, if your datsun has this happen get new valve seats. This is one of the more janky fixes I've done and it's just to get me home.
  11. all back together right now got enough adjustment out of the refinished rocker and thin jam nut. All clearances are 10 and 8 thou, and compression in cylinder 1 is back to normal. Too late to start her up but tomorrow morning will be moment of truth! She's also got some small tune up stuff since I was in there. New oil pan gasket, fan belt, spark plugs and plug wires.
  12. Yeah, I just don't have garage space right now. I will be pulling the head when I get the mini put back together. So for now I'm getting sketchy
  13. So after a 350 mile trip to california Eve's not doing so hot. Cyl 1 took a crap on my return trip hopes. 60 psi with 150ish in the other 3. Checked the valves and found the following Intakes: 1 - <0.0015 2 - 0.005 3 - 0.003 4 - 0.008 Exhausts: 1 - 0.010 2 - 0.010 3 - 0.010 4 - 0.010 I set the valves at .008 and .010 last fall, less than 1000 miles ago. Clearly something is causing the intakes to not hold their adjustments. Upon adjusting the valves I found I was out of adjustment on intake 1. Pulled the rocker off and found the contact surface was grooved from being in constant contact with the cam. It seems to me the brass valve seats are either sinking or being worn down moving the intake valves up the head thus dropping my valve clearances. I don't exactly have the time to rebuild the head right now so if it's avoidable I will make my best efforts. So here goes...hand polished the rocker pad and filed the jam nut thinner. Hopefully this will be at least good enough to get some compression back to cyl 1 and get me back home....
  14. New wheel hardware showed up today I also managed to destroy a tire somehow...i guess I shouldn't be out rallying dirt roads on 10 year old tires ha
  15. 13x6 or 7 enkei EK90's in 4x114.3 at the local yard. Also BMW 14x7 basket weaves. Wish I still had my e28!
