  1. I'll tell my wife that! Maybe she won't bemoan the rest of the cost of the project!
  2. I bought the engine as a long block, but I have a single 40 Weber DCOE side draft carb and Lynx crossover manifold to put on it. And an early cast exhaust manifold from a 510 4 into 2 into 1
  3. If I can get 120 hp out of some combination of these parts, I'll be happy :-)
  4. I took the motor out of my 520, tore it all down, took the things that need machine shopping to the machine shop, bought a new WebCam cam, had the innards balanced. I haven't had time to put the thing together, and came across this motor on Craigslist. Talked him from 300 down to 275, didn't have change for a 20, so $280 out the door for the l20b longblock (and clutch and distributor). Got it home this afternoon and discovered what head was on it. Previous owner said he'd been racing it 10-12 years ago, wrecked the car, kept the motor. He also admitted to not being a mechanical kind of guy, and couldn't tell me too much about the particulars of the motor. I really only wanted it to power the 520 until I could find the time to build my freshly machined motor....so the plan is to put this into the 520 and see how it runs....
  5. per the cam card: .450 lift, 260° duration, 238° duration @ .050 Im sure there are wilder cams...I don't have a clue about the cam on the new head....let me explain
  6. I have a single 40 Weber DCOE to feed that head, and a strong street cam. I hope the single DCOE can feed 1.5" ports...

  8. The intake port measures 1.5 inches across. I paid $280 for the running long block. It also has a cam oiler in the valve cover. I'm pretty sure I scored....:-)
  9. So the new L20b motor I just picked up has V912 cast into the head between #1&2 spark plugs. I have an idea, just want someone elses opinion.....

    520 heater fan

520 heater fan died. Its cold outside, and now just as cold inside my truck. Anyone know either where to find a good used one or what will fit or can be made to fit the stock heater box? I and my cold, cold toes thank you in advance for any help you all may offer! Dave
  11. Ok guys, rookie move here. During my recent motor/tranny swap, (L20B with single DCOE, mild cam, A87 peanut, and 280Z 5 speed into my 520) I seem to have mixed up a plethora of parts that I had within my grasp, bolted the wrong combination together, and consequently, will need to pull my motor again. Bummer, lesson learned. After the fact, I read up here on this fine forum, and figured out from all of you fine folks, that there were (are) multiple sizes for clutch collar lengths and corresponding pressure plate heights. My problem is this: when we were assembling the clutch, TO bearing, collar, etc., I had at my disposal a couple of TO bearings (with collar) that came in a box of spare parts from the guy I got the motor from, and a couple of 280z engines, trannys, clutches, TO collars etc. to pick parts from. Not knowing they were any different (oops) I threw in the bearing/collar that spun the best. The pressure plate I am using is the one that came with the motor I bought from some guy off craigslist, and I honestly don't know what pressure plate that originally was intended for either. He probably used the truck one, but I'm not 100% sure on that either. The knowledge that I have gleaned from reading the forums here is to keep the collar/pressure plate together and you will be fine, but my question to you all now is, how do you match them up after the fact? When I pull the motor back out, I'll measure the height of the pressure plate and the length of the collar that's in there, I have lots of parts to choose from to mix and match. I have been to this link: http://dimequarterly...eplacement.html While this shows the various lengths\heights of the parts in question, it still seems vague to me which goes with which. My plan is to pull the motor again this weekend and install the appropriate combo. I won't know for sure what I have in there until then. Oh, one other option. At my disposal is another Z motor/tranny that I might be allowed to cannibalize. Should I just take the flywheel, clutch, collar from that? I don't honestly know if that one is a 240, 260 or 280 motor.... Thanks for any help you guys can be in this, my moment of need Dave
  12. Yup, sold that puppy instantly. Starter too, by the way. I have a radiator left that I cannot use for my l20b conversion if that is of any use to anyone, but other than that... Thanks Dave
  13. I have a running J13 and tranny I just pulled from my 520. I'm up in Redding. Here's a copy of the post I just put in the classifieds: Folks, I have just pulled my running J13 and transmission from my truck. While she served me well, ran fine, shifted fine, when it came down to it, it was never enough oomph for me. Putting in a L20b and I need to send the little motor on down the road to a good home. I replaced the carb with a 2 barrel Weber, installed an electronic ignition (Pertronix), replaced the water pump about a year ago. It has a 60 amp alternator. It could use some new (read non-leaking) gaskets here and there, but was a daily driver until I pulled it. Located in Redding CA. I'd be willing to palletize it and have it shipped at the buyers expense, or perhaps deliver it for gas money to Sac or southern Oregon. How about $350 for both motor and tranny. Thanks, Dave and yes, I shall post some photos here in the next day or so. SOLD!!! 2-14-11
