  1. Wow man I'm glad to see it has gone to a good home, I hope you find that it was some dumb issue why it wouldn't run. Can't wait to see the end product
  2. Excited to see what you do with my old bitch
  3. Here is the story Me and some buddies took a trip from portland to Seattle. The 71 510 goon was going along just fine when it jerked a little but, thinking I hit a rut in the road I kept driving. 3 mins later it happened again, but this time it kept happening, so I taught I better pull over and check it out. As I was heading for the ramp there was a HUGE loss in power. As I hit the off ramp I put the clutch in and it died, I coasted to a gas station and tried to start it. I found that it won't idle, I can get it to run if I give it gas. After playing with the carb for a bit we decided to pop the valve cover off, when I noticed that on intake valve for cylinder 1 and 3 there was a dent on the side of the top hat of the valve spring. I towed it home and haven't touched it yet, but I will have some cash flow as of the 7th any ideas?
  4. if cant affors to fix a 510 why buy a BMW cant afford to fix I'm looking at a BMW that would not need fixing, one that I could just drive. And chances are I will be fixing it here next week because I will have the funds. I'm not to sure about heads, or what lash pads do(I will be googling it tonight) but the top hat of the spring has a flat spot alittle off centered (ill take pics) so that is what I conclude, there is a chance I am wrong , but I was on the side of the road with little tools and light. I'm needing a car to drive to school and work, which is more important than keeping a dream car, but there is a chance I can have a BMW for far driving and keep working with the goon. I'll be pulling the head Friday
  5. Sorry man that's a little to much of a loss for me thanks though and congrats on the baby
  6. Hey all so I didn't think I would have done this, because a 510 has been my dream car for many years but it has come to this. What I got Clean title 65xxx mile on gauge (doesn't mean a thing though ahah) 71 510 wagon Original plates I have searched the whole car and can't find any rust on her what so ever L20b with long headers and weber carb New head lights New thermostat New temp sensor All gauge lights new Heater core has been douched out and warms up nice Whole car has been cut buffed and waxed and the engine bay has be scrubbed out clean Rear seat in great shape Front seats are mis match but the drivers in BMW recaro that matches the rear seats Whole break system bled Whole coolant system flushed Whole clutch system is new Wipers work Rear dome is working great All lights work great Come with - zx front struts and breaks - rear mat - 15x7 centerline reps - Monroe air adjustable rear shocks - carpet And the negatives -Front dome light doesn't work -master cylinder is going, is $25 at rock auto though -If you fill up the gas tank it leaks a little. I have repaired it so it only leaks about a cup when full then stops so I just put in 20 bucks and it fills it and doesn't leak -It ran sooooo good and started up first try but on a road trip I floated two intake valves What that means to you is that it runs now but doesn't idle, it will need those two valves replaced, or a new head. The head shouldn't warped the intake valves on cylinder 1&3 don't open properly. Right when I felt it happen I pulled the car over and got it towed. Pics are a month old I can text new pics if desired 2012-12-16 13.06.07 by Photos by Zachary, on Flickr 2012-12-13 16.09.56 by Photos by Zachary, on Flickr 2012-12-14 15.13.30 by Photos by Zachary, on Flickr 2012-12-13 14.10.16 by Photos by Zachary, on Flickr 2012-12-13 10.48.13 by Photos by Zachary, on Flickr 2012-12-13 14.10.11 by Photos by Zachary, on Flickr 2012-12-13 14.09.10 by Photos by Zachary, on Flickr 2012-12-13 14.49.12 by Photos by Zachary, on Flickr The price is $2000 to ratsun guys knowing it will go to a good home. If it doesn't sell by the 10th I will be buying a new head and gasket kit and replacing it along with the master cylinder and the price will reflect that Text me or call 503 348 5878
  7. Yeah I was worried about that when I was working on it, I'm taking her on a 3 hour road trip this weekend so it will be put to the test.
  8. BAHAHAHA! i figured to out today. here is the story So i was browsing the Ratsun facebook page and someone posted that they changed there theromsat so the car would heat up faster than 20 mins, and then it hit me, what if my thermostat is stuck open and the coolant isnt getting the time to get warmed up? so i bought a new thermostat and gasket ($9.20) and while taking the cover off a bolt snapped. YAY! but what did i find when i took the cover all the way off? NOTHING! there was no thermostat in the car WTF!?!?!. so long story short i popped the new one in and BAM the heater blows hot air and the temp gauge works! RESOLVED! thanks you guys for the advice!
  9. I believe your right, there is a system in the rear quarter panel inside the car. Can this whole set up be deleted? A more basic, less spots for it to leak would be great. I have looked around about deleting it but haven't found anything.
  10. Hey so when I fill up my 71 goon, it leaks a lot of gas, today I pulled the tank but didn't see and problem with the tank, I replaced a couple fuel hoses ( they are a HUGE bitch to get though the chassis), and making sure everything was good and tight I filled it up and it DUMPED fuel. I pulled the wheel and saw it was leaking from the two spots circled in red. My question is what are the purpose of these ports, can I delete the two side ones by linking them together( red and green)? Pic stolen from DRIVEN 007-23 by Photos by Zachary, on Flickr
  11. The goons tank was very leaky, so I took out the tank, replaced hoses I could, put it back together(4 hours later), then I filled it up and still leaking bad. I think I'm just gonna take it to shop.
  12. I'm gonna have to try that cause there are water marks that I can't scrub off at all
