  1. I got down under to take a good look at the u joints today. There was no play in them at all but there was grease around the joint as if it may have leaked out. I couldn't get the entire axle off because I didn't have time so I was only able to unbolt half of the axle connected to the wheel hub. Spinning the wheel unattached yielded no sound. But as was mentioned there was no load so I guess it's a shot in the dark. I'm going to see if I can get into the joints tomorrow and grease them up see if it's just the dry joints. If that doesn't go well I'll replace the joints entirely. Any tips on taking off the axle from the diff. It was hard to get in there with the u joint rolling around. The reason i dont want to replace the joints first is cuz the ones on the car are spicers, anddd i didnt want to take it off and not be able to put it back on haha. If its not the joints and it does end up being the wheel bearing. I was reading about the process and I don't know if I have the proper means to do the job right. Some were talking about torquing the nut right and using a tool to get the bearing out. Any enlightenment would be great. Thanks dimers!
  2. Does anyone know if there's another u-joint from a different vehicle that might be more durable. The store only has one option for the 510. I'm running sr power and if it's available if rather go with safe than sorry
  3. Did some searching and found mikes write up on u-joints. Thanks for all the help guys. I think I'm headed in the right direction. Seems like a simple fix so I'm gonna head down to the parts store pick up some replacements and go from there.
  4. Pardon my noob in this area but how would one determine if the U joints are bad? I saw them while I was under there but I don't know exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks for the quick replies!
  5. One more thing, the noise gets worse after prolonged driving. So if I drive the highway for a while and come to a stop. When I take off it gets significantly worse.
  6. Please help fellow dimers. I am hearing a grinding/squealing noise in what sounds like my rear passenger wheel area. I only hear it when I take off from a stop, at low speeds occasionally, sometimes at highways speeds while cruising, and it seems to get worse when I make a hard left turn. This has led me to think that the wheel bearing might be going out but from reading I'm not sure if it could be the rear differential. My 510 has the 280zx disc conversion all around and the rear diff is a Subaru LSD connected to and s13 trans. (If it sounds like a diff problem). Any ideas what it could be? I tried to get to the rear bearing today but the lug was too big so I couldn't take it off. I'll probably be getting the right size and trying again tomorrow. When I took the axle arm off the rotor, brake, and hub didn't have any play or resistance when I spun it. No squeaking or grinding either. Even when I was spinning the hub when it was connected to the axle there was no sign of grinding or squeaking. I'm stumped as to what it could be. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  7. I for one am not above reproach. Seeing as how this thread was started because of me :/ I agree that the nature of my thread should have probably not been posted here in the ratsun community or any other respectable community. For that I apologize. However, if I may, I would appreciate some consistency with OP's position on racing threads. I may be misunderstanding some point of the picture here and if I am please forgive me. If I am not mistaken op of this now pinned thread has made a forum wide stance against street racing. Yet op replied multiple times to my story with no seeming discouragement for my post until 2 days after. Seeing that he was a senior member administrator showing no seeming disapproval I was under the impression that it was ok. I'm not trying to be capricious, I just think that op should have made it known earlier that my thread was unwarranted rather than straddle the fence. However, maybe this is a first and now we all know, if that's the case, then I understand. Now lets get back to that good, helpful and insightful ratsun talk.
  8. Lol the driveshaft was sarcasm I'm not trying to build an F1 car here haha
  9. So what your saying is that I should reduce my rotational mass even more and invest in a carbon fiber drive shaft.
  10. To your point, I wasn't double clutching like I should have been. Lol
  11. Word @620, nothing like turning heads and a thumbs up.
  12. I'm pretty sure I was disadvantaged in some way either way, 40 year old car 2wd, no tcs. It was all good fun nonetheless. But I see your point. it depends on the time loss between how much lag I get at that speed, compared to how quick his launch can be. But I know those awd's have ridikidonk launch capabilities
  13. Oops sorry I forgot that part, it was an evo 10. My sr was dyno'ed at 208whp and I never really had a benchmark to compare it to till now. It's never been to the track. That's a nice garage you got haha, I wouldn't mind that. And yea it's nice lol, forgot my car was that fast, I daily it like a grandma.
  14. So last night I was out in my sr powered 69 510, and as I was pulling out if the market parking lot and modded evo waves me in front of him. So we get to the intersection and he asks what kind of swap I have, I tell him it's an sr. We then proceed down the street to do a few runs from about 30mph. First one, I dump the clutch in 2nd and my wheels spin so I end up 3 car lengths back by the time i hit 70. Second one same deal he pulls up next to me, and he's at about my fender and he's obviously picking this speed cuz he's getting spool where as I'm at about 2500rpms in second but it's all good fun so we hit it and I mash my pedal and as I get lag for about a second he jumps in front to where I'm right on his bumper. From then on he couldn't pull away and I wasn't gaining so it was dead even all the way to 80. After that he pulled up beside and I asked him what kind of power he was putting out and he said it was dyno'ed at 350whp. Then he proceeded to say "that thing is super quick man!" I said thanks and returned the complement and we were off. Just thought I'd share that story, spread a little 510 pride around. Haha Btw the preceding took place in a land far far away in a time long long ago

I will work on getting a video of the sound up. I have to find the time and place, I can't really do it in my driveway because it may ruin my friendly relationship with my neighbors (if you know what I mean). They already thought my last 510 was loud enough haha.
