  1. We have been documenting our efforts on the race car thread. This one might be a way to summarize our efforts in the future. Skip to the end if you want Honda motor content.
  2. And a recap of the rear stub axle failure from our last race. May or may not have been related to off track excursions by yours truly.
  3. The fuel rail bolted on with two of the four mounting points. Might be ok on the street, but we are going for endurance so custom brackets are in our future
  4. Installed the throttle body but forgot the bolts lol. On the list for next time. here is a close up of the injector adapters. The o rings were a super tight fit. Not what I am used to for fitment quality. We chamfered the holes to help but the o rings were a bit too big.
  5. I wanted to fit that into my day too but I got delayed fixing the brakes on the new race car tow rig. Took longer than I thought it would. I must be out of practice. I did manage to meet Jeff there as he was walking out with the goods!

  7. A few minutes later... Ok so it has been 5 1/2 years. So much has happened in that time. Life has ups and downs as we all know. I haven't done a thing to the car in that time except move it to my new house. The good news is I still have this car and a place to keep it so lets get started again. I recently made a list of things to get going on the car. I thought I would start by assembling with the parts I have on hand before I get too carried away buying more. Well that doesn't work in the real world so here we go, I picked up a headliner and all the rubber weather strip I need to start assembly. Datsport has the best option for rubber components at fair prices, but the shipping is another matter. Since that can't be helped I spent my bonus at the Datsport store. Headliner first before glass installation. I decided to go with a black headliner as I really don't like white interior anything. It may be because i work on cars all day and have to keep them clean. We checked for photos of the removal phase of the project to see which holes the bows go into. I posted those removal pictures in this thread 10 years ago! Having someone who has done this many times before was soooo helpful. Thanks for spending the day with me Jeff! First we put the headliner in with the bows in correct order. I stocked up on binder clips from Amazon. Between that and Jeff's stash we had a ton of them. Based on how things went today, I recommend the large clips as they seem to be stronger. Stretch and clip. Stretch and clip etc. Glue in place as best as possible and call it a day. Since I could only get 2 photos to attach without rotating them this will have to do for now. More progress soon I hope.
  8. We should be training somehow in the off season. Seriously as a picture novice, any tips on how to fix the orientation in the thread would be appreciated.
  9. Some more racing fun. How much gas are we going to use this weekend? We go through about 10 gallons every 2 hours so it adds up quickly. Here is Jeff at the local filling station. A few shots from the pits on a nice sunny day for racing! And one of me trying to figure out how to go faster! We store the car in the off season at my house. I finally moved it off the trailer and into the garage. Since I was driving it, it seemed like a good idea to go get the mail while I was at it! Safely tucked away for the winter. Or until we take it apart to install the Honda engine!
  10. Well its off season time for the JBC team. I have been lacking in my participation on this thread so here is some more of what has been going on in no particular order. The Honda engine swap project is turning out to be a project indeed. These engines are already engineered to fit other cars like a Miata with after market support so hurray for them. We on the other hand have to make just about everything ourselves. Don't get me wrong, we love doing this stuff, it just takes time. I thought this was an interesting picture of how much space we have to fit the crossmember. It really shows the balance shafts in the oil pan that dictate the limit of how far we can go trimming things away. Our valve cover modification was a team effort. We used our "half hood" tool to see how much room we had. If the race car didn't have fresh paint, we could just trim the hood braces and be done with it. Since we plan to also use this engine in a few of our street cars too, we decided to modify the valve cover so the engine can fit without cutting the hood. We made a total of 3 modified valve covers for our planned projects. Jeff let me have some time on his Mill to remove the material from the front of the valve covers. He then proceeded to be the magician with the welder and close the covers back up with some sheet aluminum. Here is the before and after shot I took at work after running them through the parts washer. The exhaust header recipe is as follows: Honda S2000 stock exhaust header from the 2.0L engine Honda Accord K24 exhaust flange A section of stainless tubing Jeff ordered from somewhere The outer cylinders lined up just fine with the K24 flange spacing. The center 2 cylinders required some modification. Lots of time cutting and grinding later we managed to get things lined up. We still need to modify the bottom end to fit the 510 but it looks promising. Here is a pic of the header mocked up in the test car. I had a trip to the local Pick n Pull junk yard to obtain some stuff for the project. The Acura TSX had been picked over already pretty well. Engine gone, wire harness cut to pieces etc. I did manage to get the engine ECU, throttle motor controller and some wiring connections we would need. Time to figure out the wiring. Jeff picked up a sheet of plywood and we got started. I found the systems and wiring information for the Acura TSX so we got to work sorting things out. We got most of the connections and extra wires sorted before we got too tired. Not a good thing to do late at night.
  11. Squeeze the hose and see if it holds pressure for that one. My guess is Toyota product.
  12. We currently have two D21 transmissions. At the yard there was one just hanging by the transmission mount. everything else was removed from the front side. A few bolts and it was ours! We were excited until we looked at the odometer on the truck. almost 400K miles! We took a break from the sun and debated it for a few minutes. Certainly not for the race car. Don't want to get there and have it let go during the race. Since there were so many there we passed on that one. Too risky even during the 1/2 off sale
  13. Yes hood clearance. I guess I left that out LOL. We gained a lot of space by notching the (hood) bracing in the mock up car. We just painted Swamp Thing so welding a patch into the (hood) brace is not an option. Also the car I want to use this swap for has been painted so no welding the (hood) bracing there either. We hope the mock up car (hood) is not too damaged to accurately show us how much space we have. See what I did there? 😄
  14. We have been able to mock this up in the test car while keeping Swamp Thing track ready. Pretty handy to have an extra 510 laying around for this process. Having the front 1/2 of a hood to lay down and check for clearance showed us where this set up contacted the valve cover. We determined how much we could safely remove and badda bing (as Jeff likes to say)! I water leak tested the modified cover yesterday at work. No leaks! A little before and after shot. Looks great to me as we are not building cars for SEMA.
