  1. ok fellas... had to move the 210 today and, like i said before, if i give it gas it'll stay alive and drive but as soon as i let off it dies.. anyway, drives pretty good after i get it going. funny thing is now when i go to shutt of the car, it just wont. i now have to rely on my problem with it dying after put in gear to actually shut the car off because the ign. switch wont do it.. could we have an ignition switch problem here? i do remember reading that as a possibility somewhere... and i didnt do anything to the car just moved it out the garage to make some room to clean up and fit my civic in there too..... well.... i did call it a POS.. you think this is payback? i hope this little incident tonight shines some light on whats going on with this datsun..
  2. well thanks for everyone who has replied. i doubt the valves are tight because i calibrated them cold then hot.. so they should be good.. and the car will stay on when i shift into any drive gear if i WOT it.. but as soon as rpms get low enough, it dies.. im getting ready to leave the house and go to my bros and check out his 240sx.. maybe pull some codes off his ecu.. anyway, thanks for all the input and i'll post as soon as i can and keep you guys updated as im sure we'd ALL would like to figure this out. peace.
  3. yeah, jumping a wire from +12voltz didnt help.. so its not a wiring issue.. anymore suggestions?
  4. yes, valve lash was was adjusted when i swapped the head. ive got a timing gun, feeler gauges.. just dont have a volt meter. i've rebuilt and swapped engines before.. i guess hondas are just easier for me.. .. idk this has me stumped.. what is the "correct" way to connect vaccum advance? i've got it hooked up right above the idle mixture screw... and my dad had messed with the idle mixture before but thats before i even cleaned the cap n rotor and get it running.. and how exactly do i get the idle mixture right?
  5. banzia510, firing order is 1342.. ign. timing is set at 8 degrees BTDC. plugs are gapped at .044. motor fires right up as soon as i go to start. firing order and ign. timing is not the issue here. as i said, i previoulsy cleaned burnt cap n rotor and it ran for one day. and it felt great. so none of those can be the issue... i just dont know what is. and yes, between this wagon, my civic wagon, my dads dakota and bros 240sx not running right....yes my head hurts. not to mention the 10+ hours i work during the week at a concrete plant... .. anyway, yeah.. thats life. hogboy52, i will try the jumper wire to the positive side of the coil and give it a go.. that is something i havent tried. thanks. i'll be back.
  6. like i said, a datsun guy from the local nissan told me it was starving for spark when under load. he advised me to clean up the cap and rotor and that it would then run.. so i did that. and he was right. so i assumed that new cap and rotor would work. when it didnt i figured it wouldnt hurt putting in new ignition parts. im yet to replace the distributor since its $140 and the parts store and i've got an extra one laying around that didnt work either. so im hesitant to do that just yet. i was not expecting it to work after new ign parts but either way, the car starts better and idles smoother so it helped. just didnt solve the problem. what you said about the wires makes sense. i first thought that was the problem with shutting off so flipped the wires so many times trying to see if it would run but no matter how many times or different ways i connected the wires it didnt help. thanks for your input but you havent pointed me in the right direction at all. i really need this car on the road. both me and my girl work and we're borrowing my dads dakota so we can both get to work. with gas prices the way they are i rather being putting gas in the datsun.. you know what i mean.... anyone else?
  7. I've got this '79 210 wagon thats been giving me trouble for a while now. Picked it up with a shot rod so I picked one up and swapped the head. according to the guy i got the car from the head and carb had just been redone. and i believed him. they both looked nice and clean. anyway, there have been little things here and there but this is where im at now: car starts right up! no problem! revs nice! it just shuts right off when put into any of the drive gears. i checked for a stuck torque converter but checked out fine. fuel is good. timing is good. no vaccuum leaks. after going to nissan and getting a helpful tip from a datsun owner there i managed to get it going. the only thing that boggles my mind is that i got it to drive around for ONE day and it ran GREAT! all he told me to do was pop off the cap n rotor and clean them up. so i did. and to my surprise, it didnt shut off! he did tell me it would only be a temporary fix however.. and he was right. it started acting up again so i just went and got a new cap and rotor. and to my surpise, this time it didnt work! so i go back for plugs, wires, and a coil just for kicks. and still nothing. i dont understand. all i can think of now is that the distributor is bad and has trouble under load.. another thing that has me thinking is the neutral safety switch.. is the car supposed to crank in any gear? because it does. it wont start however unless its in P or N.. could it be somehow shorting out and shutting the ignition off when put in gear? i dont know. my head hurts. its been like 6 months since i got the car. can anyone help me out here?
  8. nice info. really nice engine pays too! thanks for the inputs people. i'll be seeing where this goes and taking pictures along the way. i'll keep you guys updated. thanks again.
  9. i've seen this pic! its friggin' beautiful man! i'll be blacking out the engine bay tho.
  10. thats cool but im looking into the KA swap. you're CB7 stock?
  11. i dont. my pops can handle that part, which i assume is necessary at this point. what exactly needs to get fabricated tho?
  12. and that im grateful for as im already on those links and asking away. but the dude's thread is the same dude i email a couple days ago with no reply yet. thanks anyway for the input.
  13. nice ride! im looking into this swap for my 79 210 wagon.. what did you have to do to bolt it in? the wagon is auto, if that helps. just got the wagon and has a blown block and im trying to get it back on the road soon. any advice and tips would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance.
