  1. Ordered a starter off ebay. Picture looked right but wrong starter showd up. Found another and it turned out right. You can still find them but there's not many left. The only other options I found were to rebuild mine. Most rebuilders wanted a little over $200 or CarQuest found one on the east coast and they would not start rebuild until payment. 2+ weeks and a little over $200 as well. 16205 is the right number.
  2. There are starters on ebay they are calling "USA Ind S163". They show it fits 1966 520 all the way to 1986 720 as well as numerous other vehicles. How is this possible? And several people are selling them. This isn't some sort of universal starter is it? I tried a 1970 521 starter and it won't work.
  3. The starter on this truck is on the passenger side. When I look it up on napaonline it comes up as a 16205 with a picture that seems to match my starter. When I look up that 411 starter on several sites it comes up as a 16210 and the location of the solenoid looks like it is placed in a different location. The 16205 for the 520 says it's a Hitachi, the 16210 for the 411 says it's a Mitsibishi. I'm starting to think they are not interchangable. Unfortunately, when I enter my zip code to choose a store the 16205 starter goes away on the website.
  4. I don't know if the 411 is compatible. When I choose same year with 520 pickup, it's shows unavailable. Anyone know if they're the same?
  5. I have a 1966 Datsun 520. The starter has always spun the motor over really fast. It is starting to slow down, but the alternator is charging fine and the battery seems to be in good shape producing plenty of voltage. I'm guessing the starter is beginning to fail. I'd like to have a backup ready when it finally goes. Where do you get a starter? All I can find are things like brushes, solenoids, and various other small parts. I'd love to just get my hands on a new or rebuilt unit. Does anyone rebuild these things? Local auto parts don't have them. Rock Auto doesn't have them. Ebay doesn't have them. Any ideas? Thanks, Mike.
  6. DREWSDIME just came through for me. Handle and wrench just arrived. Thanks guys, Mike.
  7. Bought a jack from Zed1, thought I'd share the experience I had with others. As you can see from second post he asks if "this is the jack I was looking for" and showed a picture. We agreed on a price and for some reason I decided at the last minute to make sure the jack was complete with the handle and rod. I sent an email saying "Hi Keith, Here's the funds for the Datsun truck jack shown in the photo. I'm sending this money assuming the jack comes with the handle as well as the rod shown in the photo. Thanks, Mike". Then when I sent the payment I stated the same thing in the comments. He responded, "Michael, I received the funds, thank you. The photo I sent was to depict the jack as it appears in the 520/521. The other items in the photo (handle, wrench, rubber holder, etc) are not included with the jack. Regards, Keith". He did not mention my email or notes in the payment so I emailed him again, "Aren't the handle and wrench needed to operate the jack?? I don't need a jack I can't use. Hold off on shipping until we resolve this issue. Thanks for the response. Thanks, Mike". Well that was the last I heard from him until, of course, the jack was shipped and money was spent. Jack did arrive and indeed did not have jack or rod, oh by the way, it wasn't the jack in the photo, it was a very ugly, heavily rusted unit. He finally responded long after the jack arrived saying he had been "gone fishing", no joke. So I asked if I could simply return the jack, let's just say it's been some time and he must be "gone fishing" again, LOL! Not a big deal, not gonna comment on my feelings toward this person, JUDGE FOR YOURSELF.
  8. Does anybody know if someone offers a carpet kit for a Datsun 520 pickup. This guy has a 1966 520 for sale in SF, exact truck I have and I noticed what appears to be a molded carpet over the transmission tunnel. Anybody know what this is? He claims he got the truck that way and thought it was stock. He said on either side of the tunnel it's just carpeted floor mats. Where do I get carpet for my truck? Thanks, Mike.
  9. Have a Datsun jack but need the rod and handle that operate the jack. Here's a picture of what I basically need: Also looking for a fan shroud for an early 1966 Datsun 520, referance this post: http://community.rat...966-datsun-520/ Thanks, Mike.
  10. Oh, I'm probably being a little too optimistic of the amount of heat I could get out of that tiny little heater box. I just thought the 720 blower motor would blow much harder and faster than the original 520 motor, and it really doesn't. I just like a really hot heater. I think I will check what thermostat is in it and most likely put in a 195 to get a little more heat out of it.
  11. Well as I like a really good heater I bought a new 720 motor and modified it to fit and seal tightly in the original heater box. It is a much bigger motor and I was really anticipating a much better heater that blew faster and harder. Unfortunately I was kind of disappointed. I can't say it's much better than the original 520 motor when it was working properly. Can't say I can really explain this but at least it's working again and hopefully for a long time. I should have taken pictures of what I did but, I didn't.
  12. Zed1, That seems like a fair price, I'll take it. Just let me know the total when you figure out shipping cost. Thanks, Mike.
  13. I can't say I know what a Datsun 520 jack looks like, I just know mine is missing. What's that jack in your photo from? Here's pics of the same location in my truck.
  14. Looking for a fan shroud for my 1966 Datsun 520 pickup. I need the early style like shown in the right side of the pic labled number 16. Thanks, Mike. P.S. Anyone have a stock jack, also?
