I have a 72 510 and need a radiator with auto trans hookups. anyone have one or can point me in the direction for an aftermarket replacement. New member here checkin' in. Just purchased a 1972 510 4 door off CL and thought I'd post up a few pics. I want to get the car running really sound and then work on suspension and brake upgrades along with new wheels. Only problem with all this is I know absolutely nothing about Datsuns. I've been looking for a small pickup that would get good gas mileage to go back and forth to work. During my research of finding a small pickup I came across the Datsun 620 with I had to have! Been searching CL for some time now looking for a sound pickup when I came across this 510 last week. I thought well it's not a 620 but I'll check it out hoping for the best. I finally get a hold of the lady and she's tells me "I'm getting all kinds of emails on this, so if you want it you better get here quick, it's first come first serve". I was like oh snap i better boogie down to LBC. Stop by the bank and off I go. I get to LB and after being lost I finally show up to the house. As I'm showing up another car has just pulled up before me. I was like fuck a day late and a buck short the story of my life! Me and the other dude get to talking with the seller when 2 more dudes show up, now I'm thinking ahh shit I see a bidding war starting with the 4 of us. So the first dude says to the seller I'll take it and the other two dudes split and I'm still standing there thinking to myself what could have been... I think the guy seen the sadness in my face and says to the seller "you know what, let this guy have it, I already have one at home" I freak out and the seller gets kinda pissed because right before he made the deal with the other guy, one of the other dudes that showed up after us as he was walking away offered the seller $200 more than his asking price, but the seller was like dude i just made a deal with this guy you should have said something 3 mins ago. I chill the guy out and pull out my cash and tell him let's write it up!! Now this car has been sitting for 6 years and wont start. I'm thinking to myself shit I just got caught up and bought a car that don't even run!! I run over to autozone pick up a new battery and when I return we pour a little gas in the carb and WHAM! it wants to go! We dont get it running and I just tell the guy I'm gonna have it towed over to a garage a mile away. Dude at the garage drops in a new fuel filter, changes the oil and filer drops the gas in the tank puts in new gas. RUNNING!! I get in the car, SHIT NO BRAKES! screw it I get on PCH and drive all the way back to Redondo Beach! The car is CLEAN! I'm the 2nd owner and every record of this car is documented and receipts go all the way back to the 70's. The original owner bought the car in Long Beach to commute to TRW back in 72'. Sometime in the 80's he gave it to his daughter who I bought it off of. I believe in the late 90's the L16 was removed for L18 and a few other upgrade were added. Weber carb, electronic ignition and I think it's had one paint job. The original L16 came with the car and was running fine when pulled. I guess the daughter wanted more HP, so the engine was swapped out. I still need to go back to LB to pick up the engine as it wouldnt fit in the 510 If anyone is in the Redondo Beach/Torrance area I'd love to chat with you and pick your brain about some upgrades. I want the car to sit a little lower and put on some larger wheels. I've been reading on these boards and on The510realm that an upgrade that almost everyone does is struts and brakes from the 280zx. Is there a write up on how this is done and what parts will be needed? If anyone has the parts needed for this I'm interested in buying or if anyone is sellng 15 or 16 in wheels. pm me -Isaac My 72' 510!!
