If there are no pictures, it didn't happen.
  2. Nice truck, and nice scrambler in the back there. :D Color is such a tough call - we all have our favorites, and the color / style you paint the truck needs to make the statement YOU want to make.
  3. those mounts are the BEEF. Nice work there, and I love those old-skool green & white plates! Nice looking project, keep the updates coming.
  4. Sorry, did not catch your chat last night. I'm close enough to 51 to call it. ;-) I've been riding cycles since '01 (well, did a little before that) and have ridden about 150K miles since! I've crisscrossed the US 3 times.

  5. Thanks for the input. If things work out, I'll run down this weekend and take a look. And then figure out how to get it the 125 miles to home. ;)
  6. Hi all, I'm new to the forum. A little about me - I'm an old geezer , and have been on-and-off wrenching all my life. I've only owned a couple Datto's though - a '72 goon back about 1988, and a 310 in the early 90's. I loved the 510, but the ex-wife didn't 'get' it, as she was into bigger 'merican stuff. For the last 10 years or so I've been mostly doing the 2-wheel thing, and my current every-day ride is a Suzuki DL1000 (we also have a '09 Forrester that my wife mostly drives). Like many I was laid off from my very-decent job, and I'm currently going to college to eventually be a nurse. I'm looking to get a daily drive PU, and naturally looking at Datto's! I know that a 720 would probably make a better daily driver, but f'it, I like the 620 so much better. Hey, I graduated HS in 1978 when these bad boys were NEW and we all thought there were the hot shit. I keep looking at this one in Eugene: http://eugene.craigs...2128470920.html It looks pretty darn nice. It doesn't run, which doesn't scare me ALL that much. I'm not as up on prices though - is $900 too much for this considering it's not running? Most of the other $900 620's I see on CL are clapped out POS's that barely run. I'm a way better wrench that I am a body man, so a nice body with questionable engine suite me. The toughest part with this one is finding or renting a trailer to get it home. Well, and telling the current wife I bought Yet Another Project! :P Anyway, thanks for any input. Ken Vancouver, WA
  7. http://portland.craigslist.org/wsc/cto/2161321055.html I'm unemployed. My wife would kill me. I wonder what he'd take.
  8. Back in the day* (a Thursday I think) a buddy and I did a valve job on his lightly smoking '62 Chebby Biscayne (google it.). It ran better, and smoked twice as bad, as the now sealing valves did a good job of pulling oil past the worn-out rings. He swapped it for a pretty nice VW Bug. Which we blew the motor up on 6 months later, but that is another story! I've done a number of on-the-cheap ring/bearing/top end jobs. Yeah, maybe they aren't good for 100K miles, but they'll certainly do 25K. OTOH, if you do the top, and it still smokes (or smokes worse) you are out some time and a head gasket. Ken aka OldeFarte
  9. (ah, the REST of story) -on not street riding. One of my children is special needs and we're pretty much "at the limit" caring for her - she can't afford to lose her Dad!

That's what these fun projects are all about. Have fun riding! And go to the track more! it's safer! (assuming run-off room and you avoid any barriers)

  10. Welcome! You can't be a "kid" if you're an ex roundy-round racer! Cycles are fun! I'm limiting myself to off-road fun (a la KTM 200) because I feel that street riding doesn't work out well for me with the fun:risk ratio (because of the others in cars). I can tell you're serious about safety too - Nice Shoei That said the 2 months touring 2-up with my...

  11. Wow, what an awesome build! I wandered onto this site this afternoon, and have read all 16 pages straight through. Pure gear-head PORN! As an ex-roundy-round racer who has built a few race cars (nothing this nice!) I have to say your fab work is first rate. I love that you and your buddy swap tools, help and ideas. I've been heavily into motorcycles for the last 10 years or so, and I'm fortunate to have a good friend like that too - he had tools I didn't, and I have the 3-car garage. The turd went and moved to LA though, something silly about a JOB and his wife getting into USC's medical school. At any rate, mad props, this is an epic build. Ken PS the ride height is just plain SICK. I love it.
