  1. Hey DemonZ,

Was wondering if you still had the old 2+2 and if you've made any updates to it? It's kinda my inspiration on my current project. Thx.

  2. Little bit of work to the front end, put in a crappy mesh grille as a placeholder until I finally have a chance to make something a little more intetesting. Also, building a turbo motor.
  3. My First Z: '72 240Z "DemonZ" bought on 06/06/06, please also note the License plate number in the second pic. She's gone now. My Second Z '77 280Z Rolling chassis I picked up. Turns out it had all the original paperwork from the original owner including the bussiness card of the guy who sold it in 1977. More importantly, it had the original Owners Manual which included the Paint Code. I uploaded all the paperwork on HybridZ back when I had it, and was informed that the car's #411 paint code was the "Sunburst Yellow" for the ZZZAP Special Edition. It did not have the ZZZAP decals, however after having a few discussions with a number of the Z gurus from Hybrid and ClassicZ as well as a discussion with an HBZ member who was a Datsun dealer confirmed that out of the roughly 1500-2000 ZZZaps, just over a thousand had the full decal/louver/racemirror package. Wound up in financial trouble and had to trade it to a friend. Been looking to get it back. Third Z: '93 300ZX Convertible. Non-turbo. The auto tranny died and I had a 5speed out of a TT dropped in. Was my Daily for two years until I sold it in Aug 2010. Fourth Z: '77 280Z 2+2 "Zombie" My junkyard work in progress, been tinkering around little by little for about 2 years now. Fifth Z: '86 300ZX. Plain jane NA 5speed. Reliable DD. Lol, sorry for my rambling post. After seeing everybody elses beautiful Z's and promising projects, I had to post all my old Z's.
  4. Thought I'd chime in since I'm replacing mine atm. My local Autozone didnt come up with the 077926 number, just checked their site, and it's not coming up either. However they do carry The GP Sorenson part number 800-9213 for $9.99 each. They had between 1 and 3 in stock at each of the stores in Austin. For those of yall in the Central and Eastern US, Advance Auto Parts no longer carries GP, but they do carry BWD. I did some cross referencing using one of their computers (I used to work there some time ago) and came up with the BWD number. The BWD number is 28419A. However, they were $14.99 each, and had to be ordered from a local warehouse.

    quick question

Not my head, not my typo. I mentioned in that post that it's probably a miscast. As in wrong ID. Or possible a few people mistook 7's for 9's when looking at their heads. I've seen it mentioned a few times on a few forums over the years.

    quick question

That would be why I said I wasnt certain on the LD block, I havent messed with any of the first gen Maximas and didnt have any specs on those two motors handy. Again, that would be the reason for me saying I wasnt sure. After you mentioned the deck height I did remember hearing something along those lines a while back, but had forgotten about that info and the source. I appreciate your chiming in with your knowledge about them. I left out the Maxima MN47 head, mainly because again, it's on a maxima, and I dont have much info on the maxima motors. Technically there are actually a few more L series heads that still havent been mentioned, but those are pretty much entirely oddball SOHC heads, Theres a few variations of the N42 head In Japan There's the N33 which is extremely similar to the last casting of the E88 P99, virtually identical to the P90 These are most likely miscastings but I dont have any additional info on them. Back to the P90A again... I've heard it both ways. More Hydraulics were made, and more Solids were made.... I've never been able to find any actual documentation on the head production for the P90a's to clarify how many of each were made. I will say however, out of the 5 P90A's I've seen in person, None were hydraulic. I only know of two guys in central Texas who've seen a hydraulic P90A. I've had discussions with a few people on HybridZ who have been working on Z's for a couple decades, and I got mixed responses from them. From what I've seen and what I've heard over the years, it seems that there were more Solid rocker P90As made. I'm not saying I'm the end all source of information on Zs. Not in the slightest. I'm human, I know some of my information is probably wrong. I try to preface it with "I'm not sure" or at least give a decent indication that I could be wrong in the post.

    quick question

I did mention the P90 and P90A, and there are actually two of the P90As, most were solid, a few were hydraulic. I do have a few friends who have P90A's with solid rockers, one of which is on an untouched (when I say untouched, I mean the internals have not been changed) crate motor that came directly from Nissan Japan. I was going to keep just to just L28 heads, but since you brought up The E88 and E31, I'll mention those too. E30 head which is the highest quench head for the L series made by Nissan, but is only availible in japan. E31 second highest quench made by Nissan, however the highest quench you can find in the US. Found on Series 1 240Z's E88..... well that's a long story. There are three E88's. There is a rare E88, made for only a few months after the switch from the E31. This has the same combustion characteristics of the E31. Most people are unaware of it's existance. The only reason I know about it is because I stumbled across one. I matched it up against my E31, and it is virtually identical. I've found a few other people on HybridZ who either have, or are aware of this head. Then there's the standard E88 you find on most late 71-73 240Z's Last we have the E88 on the 260Z, this casting has open chamber head meaning that there are no quench pads in the combustion chambers. NONE OF THE E88 or E31 HEADS ARE NOTCHED FOR FUEL INJECTION. You can notch them for the injectors yourself, but if you want to just swap and go with minimal work, them WILL NOT work for EFI untill they have been lightly modified. Not trying to step on your toes there Skib, just trying to make sure the people know before they go buy a head they have to modify.

    quick question

Since the question was asked, There are a few different L28's Blocks: N42, Usually dished pistons and slightly thicker cylinder walls (a more desirable block for the 3.1 stroker) F54, Non turbo, came with flat top pistons, and a mount for an oil cooler adapter F54 Turbo, dished pistons, and a mount for an oil cooler adapter Then theres the Maxima Diesel LD28. If memory serves, this is actually the same block as the L24E gas Maximas were using, but I am not 100% certain. HOWEVER, the LD28 has a crank that gives it a much longer stroke (another component of the 3.1 stroker) which would increase the 2.4L displacement to 2.8L. So I'm fairly certain I'm correct about it actually being a factory modified L24E block. This is basically the the same principal as the L24 and L26, the L26 is an L24 block with a crank that's designed for a longer stroke to increase the displacement to 2.6L Heads, sticking with JUST L28 heads, there's quite a few: N42 N47 P79 P90 P90A with standard solid rockers P90A with hydraulic rockers. (the p90A was the only L28 head with hydraulic rockers and are few and far between) And then there's the LD28 Diesel head, but I dont remember the casting number at the moment. The intake manifolds are also different, but I'm not going to get into that unless somebody asks >.> In the grand scheme of things, all these motors are very similar. The differences are minor, piston type, valve sizes, port shapes, combustion chambers. They can all be mixed and matched with the exception of the LD28. Torque specs are all identical.
  9. Thanks guys, The 2+2 wasnt my first choice, but it was the first good shell I could find that was in my price range.... as in, as close to free as I could get. I wasnt a huge fan at first, but it's grown on me quite a bit. It's definitely a cobbled together POS, but it runs (rich as hell) and just as importantly stops. By far, one of the worst Z builds I've done in the last 5 years from a mechanical standpoint, but one of the most interesting. As for what else is in my garage, at this point, not too much of interest. Turbo manifold, smoothed Non-egr n42 intake manifold, a slightly chewed on holset hx45 and an evo 9 intercooler. Theres also 3 L28's in varrying degrees of broken(I have a habt of collecting free motors when I can), a 4 speed(out of the 2+2) and a second set of those vintage wheels. The rest is all either spare or broken parts. I've actually been going through trying to clean the garage out today. I have to move in Feb, so I want to get everything ready for that. And... I'm also considering putting together a turbo motor that I can sit on untill I have the money and time to invest in the EFI parts I'm missing.
  10. I picked up a 77 280 2+2 about 2 years ago from a junk yard. $350, didnt run, and it was rather rough. The idea was, "what can I build out of spare parts in my garage?" Engine was a complete mess... giant paperweight. Electrical system has some good gremlins. ECU is fried. Fuel system is completely trashed, rail, pump, and tank are all garbage. Brakes were destroyed. Paint was reeeeeally bad, a few dents here and there as well. Basically the only good things about the car were the body/frame, which isnt perfect, but wasnt too bad... and the 4 speed transmission, which i didnt wind up using anyway. Built a motor from parts in the garage: N42 Block N42 Head, and a shaved Non-egr N42 intake. After finding out the ECU was fried, I wound up putting on an old set of SU carbs I had laying around. Dropped in my old ZX 5speed dug out my BRE springs for the front(still need to find what I did with one of the rear ones...) Oldschool wide 14" wheels Corbeau seat ^All in the garage. I used spray on Truck Bed Liner for the paint, not perfect, but it's cheap, durable, and almost looks like primer, without the downside of absorbing moisture like primer does. Here's a basic "Before and after" from about a year ago. Running a 3-2-1 MSA header into a dual straight pipe system, at the very end there's a pair of 15 inch 1 and 3/4 inch pair of glasspacks with chrop tips welded to the ends of them. It's got a hell of an exhaust note.(had to ad a little length for the 2+2) Again, stuff I had in the garage. Because the brakes were completely toast too, I dug around in the garage again, and found all my old upgrade parts. Toyota pickup 4 piston calipers for the front, rear disc conversion in the back(yeah, I had that laying around too) and a ZX master cylinder to accommodate the larger fronts and rear discs. got it running and drivable a few months ago, christened it the "ZOMBIE" for multiple reasons. Stock grill and turn signals are going to come off, and I'm going to put in a small block off plate in their place eventually. I also have a special plan for paint on the doors that I haven't followed through with yet. I spent a month driving it on a temp tag, but currently it's down while I sort out the problem of getting a bonded title.
