  1. That’s not everything I got. I also pulled out a bunch of other parts as well. I know someone can use them so I have them for that purpose. Including the speedometer cluster which is unobtainable. I hope to re-home these things….
  2. Yes I did…. Sort of. I stripped her down like a prom date after the dance and when I got what I wanted I sent her off to live another life with someone who loves her for what she is. A guy who needed the body took it off my hands.

  4. Oh I would imagine. The pistons are stuck in the cylinders which means it probably got hot enough to cause damage with the main bearings and rod bearings. However if it is helpful at all the cylinder head is in good shape and actually rebuilt. New valves, seals and a new timing set. Checked the cam bearings and they looked OK. I’m basically parting out the truck right now to take it to the wrecker so if you want the cylinder head let me know. Thankfully I used break in lubrication on the cylinder head prior to starting it up after replacing the head gasket. It’s seized up shortly after so it only ran for may be a minute. Not in it to make any money just, happy to help out. I would recommend checking it thoroughly before installing though
  5. I have some good news and some not so good news. Let’s start with the good news. My truck is finally done. Now for the bad news, the reason why it’s done is the low oil pressure managed to damage the engine before I could get it corrected. So the engine is seized. Anyway the lesson here is pay attention to what you hear, what you feel and what you see. If it doesn’t look right stop and verify. Unfortunately when my oil pressure dropped completely I was on the freeway and thought I could correct it before it caused too much damage. Sadly It had done it in short order. The culprit was some trash that got sucked up into the oil pick up tube. Unfortunately some of the previous head gasket material made it past my observation even though I cleaned out the oil pan thoroughly before putting it back on each time. I could easily pop the engine apart again and rebuild it …..again. However at this point I feel like the best option is to move forward with a different project such as my boat. Anyone who has owned a boat knows it is a vortex for money into a black hole of spending. In an effort to recoup some of my costs I have completely stripped the engine of valuable parts undamaged as well as all of the electronics. Hopefully either somebody will need these parts or I can re-purpose them in the future. It took me about a year to get everything that I needed so I have a complete turbo set up with all the electronics and gauges. Thankfully the turbo rebuild kit for the Rev-9 is not expensive so I may just do that and then try to sell the entire setup as a kit which is everything you need to turbo the Ka24de. This isn’t how I usually end up, as some of you old timers know. I generally traded my finished product off for something in pieces on a trailer or something like that. I guess you could say that the boat is on a trailer, thankfully not in pieces though lol.
  6. I believe it’s your failures that make you successful. With that said…. I was having issues getting oil pressure to stay steady after the engine warms up. I shimmed the oil pump bypass valve and that seemed to help but I’d have to keep my rpms up at idle at normal operating temperatures to maintain pressure. I checked my sump intake tube, oil flow in the turbo feed line and drain. Everything was okay but then I checked compression first cold then after warmup. The cold compression was 145-150 on all 4 but warm was way lower. The plugs were perfect but there was oil pooling on top of the pistons. So it sounds like the head gasket has allowed oil leakage for some reason. It could be a warped head but I checked that last time and the oil pooling was consistent in all cylinders. I used a decent head gasket (VR) but not my usual which is the felpro permatorque I think it’s possible that the Victor head gasket requires re-torque unlike the felpro. Anyway it’s off with the head again. I will keep you posted on my findings.
  7. So I have some real time feedback regarding the changes I’ve made and whether or not the turbo really makes a difference with this engine. Keeping in mind the stock intake and it’s not the 240 SX engine. I picked up a new toy this weekend and I was able to tow it fairly well however I think the truck would nope the F out if I were to try and get it out of the boat ramp. It’s a 20’ stingray with the I/O and a tandem axle trailer. I have to say I was pretty surprised that it towed it as well as it did. But I’m very certain it’s not going to work for my tow vehicle for this boat. The boat came with a few toys. Overall I am impressed with the turbo set up with the truck. However a 4000 pound load is a little bit much to ask even with the upgrades on the engine and transmission.

  9. Thank you Mike! That makes sense. Thank you for the images, helps with understanding the setup and how to apply it to my truck. I was considering a second fan, winter temperatures will make it more difficult to assess the efficacy of a single fan. It must work without interaction for reliability and safety and cooling properly in all conditions including seasonal temps.
  10. Actually that’s a great idea. I’m using a 16” fan from a Toyota Sequoia and it’s wired up through a relay system so it should be an easy process. Looks like it is time for a junkyard run!!
  11. Finally got the steering linkage and spindles done. I still need to swap out the control arms but the truck is a lot safer now. I’ve replaced the bearings, spindles, all of the steering rack and tie rods. Pretty soon she’ll be a new truck! I also put a real tow hitch on since the bumper hitch was a joke.

Okay so I have some feedback regarding the changes I made regarding swapping the clutch fan for electric, pulstar plasma plugs and CTI Altima pistons and rpm changes in response to the throttle. 1. CTI std pistons with slimmer rings. 1.2 1.2 2.5 vs stock 1.5 1.5 2.8 mm rings. These are basically 240sx pistons but a little lighter and scampi rings. They are pretty sturdy but much lighter than the 240sx pistons. They state they are for the Altima but seem to work well for the frontier. Remember, I haven’t changed my head or intake for a 240sx setup so I’m running the stock frontier intake and head. The pistons are of decent quality and I would use them again if needed. The compression is higher than the stock frontier pistons but I have ARP studs and a quality oem head gasket. 2. Pulstar plasma plugs are basically regular platinum plugs but have a capacitor that in my understanding stores energy and jumps up the output of the spark enough to create a plasma. Unfortunately I can’t see through my engine, but that would be cool, anyway so far I think they are doing this because I don’t have any unburnt fuel smell like before in my exhaust, even with iridium plugs. 3. Removed the clutch fan and installed an electric push fan in front of radiator using an adjustable thermostat controller. Okay so I’m gonna tell on myself, I went cheap with the thermostat switch but I was curious if it would work. I wired it up and it does work for adequate cooling even if temperatures are high. However I recommend using a quality thermostat switch system or an adjustable one of good quality. I would also recommend one that the sensor sits in the coolant and not between the radiator fins. I ended up having to use thermo paste to get a good connection for the switch. Now that I know it’s going to cool the engine I’ll get the right switch. Now I’d like to share my thoughts with these changes and how It changed the engine rpm characteristics. I know it revs much faster than before, but more subjective is how the engine feels while driving. The feel is more responsive to slight changes in throttling. I don’t think it will make much difference in horsepower or torque but I will keep you posted after breaking in my new parts. Hopefully without breaking my new parts. Hahaha
