#1533320 Kelmo's Coupe Build(?)

Posted by .sunlover on 06 December 2017 - 11:27 AM

So, I am stll messing around with this and the only thing I know for sure is that I am not gettting spark out of the coil.  Everything in the ignition system (excluding the ignition switch itself) has been swapped out of the grey car and into the green car....the green car runs without fail every time. I think part of the harness for the relay needs to be found and removed and I plan to work on this over the weekend.
Electrical is not my strong suit (I am kinda like a blind man without a guide dog or a cane, just bumbling through this). So if I post a pic of the grey car burned to the ground, well, one of two things happened......I wired something wrong or I just got fed up, found some gas and a Zippo lighter.

Are you using a test light, or voltmeter to check? Voltmeter can lie to you, displaying voltage, not amperage, so 12v turns to 0v when you put load on it. Have you wired a power lead from the battery to the coil, and fired it up yet?

In other words, I'm not trusting your ignition switch.

Well, I have an ignition circuit that refuses to get spark and all of the parts work fine when installed in another car......I am pretty sure I heard the car laughing at me yesterday.

Keep telling myself.......just one more wire.

Sounds like it's just being lazy. Buy some sage spice, heat it up on a spoon until it smokes, and blow smoke all over the effected area. Now the energy is cleared. Now put Herby on for it, get it all pumped, and motivated. If that doesn't work, show it pictures of crushed cars, and point ro each of them, saying "didn't start, didn't start..." you should be on the road in no time.

In 1992 when I started my first project, the po (my dad) told me the affermarket gemp gauge didn't work, and I should replace it asap.

A couple years later, it overheated with no working temp gauge, because teenager.

The motor I rebuilt and swapped in got an aftermarket gauge that didn't last long, before I traded it for a 510 with a blown head gasket (overheated).

My 521 has gone through 5 or 6 temp gauges, in about 20k miles and overheated a few times because of it (my last motor)

I've tried mostly auto gage, and sunpro, and this one I'm using in my truck now is about useless, moves a little, not accurate, and it was just a couple months old when I had quit driving it.

I'm not here in Datsun stories to fix this problem.

I'm here to spread rumors and fear with multiple accounts of CURSED datsuns and parts from MANY datsun owners, please add your own CURSED stories.

Maybe we can reverse the Jay Leno effect.

Thanks, guys. The light panel is easy to do, feel free, I just got aluminum, and used a rotozip with wood bits to cut in the lights. They even sell a low profile led the same shape you could just bolt on, now. There's sequential blinker ones, and built in back up light ones to personalize it too.

I'm on the spare in front, one blew it's first week on the road.

I am in the market for that last centercap though.

Why the puck clutch? Seems a bit grippy for an L18.

I'd rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

Flat tops and closed chamber worked head...grippy clutch...RSA's

Seems about right to me, plus, it operates so smooth compared to the standard one.

Looks like a solid little truck.

Thanks, fresh l18 has more power than my l20 ever did, loving the high compression

Dig this, especially the tail light/ license light panel.  May have to steal that idea for my buddies truck.

Thanks, made it in '05, I like the irony of using big rig parts, still meaning to get a train horn with a pull cable. The air system is just a couple wires from complete.

Couldn't find my old thread, so here's the new one. Bought this in '02 with big hopes and dreams, and almost no mechanical experience or internet back up, and it sat around in various stages of not driveable, and "modified" waiting for a better mechanic.

I became one, and got it DD-ing in '11, signed up for judging at Canby that year(on 1 hour of sleep, and a teste welded to my sack), came to grips with the fact that it wasn't the best anything yet. Of cource driving it Daily got me laid, so I ended up in a relationship and neglected it again while I worked on my 16oz curls. That got me nowhere, so I picked the wrenches back up instead, aaaaaaand, pics...

Whoa. Sunlover. Where you been? How's the business?

The boat business is doing well, it is hitting the stock market to get a set value, and sell it, so someone with deeper pockets can properly market it. The machine shop side is growing, we have the "new facility" pretty much stuffed with machines with jobs now. I spent some time proving to myself that I cannot drink responsibly, so I put down the bottle and picked up my wrenches. Pulled my 521 out of the weeds, and it's my DD again. How have you been?

I saw a leprechaun once.

I heard that leprechauns were talked about in giants' stories, and WE are the little people.

#1354442 I couldn't find a Datsun for $150, but I did find this...

I have told him that a comet wash and wax will make this poor neglected truck look like a rusted classic, lol,. Can I get an amen? :)
