  1. Big fan of carbs too. Funny how so many drag cars only use carbs. And tons of light aircraft. And tons of us who enjoy the brotherhood of mechanical devices, for whatever that means. That said, DD=EFI. Nice build.
  2. NIce lookin calves Yeah that 63a was basically slightly more simple design than 71b but quite a bit more trouble overall. Many of the clips are a PITA to remove and most of the parts are just NLA. The kit I ordered from Transmission Exchange in Oregon had about half-the parts correct. Rest just wrong size or NLA. Getting the bearings off the Countershaft took a large effort. Hope it holds up... :)
  3. I need to do that on my w126.
  4. Refreshing the 5 speed in my s30 which is out of a 1983 N/A ZX. My 2nd gear is toast and Nissan is back-ordered. Interested in buying a spare tranny or any parts. This gear is called 32250-e9200. The tranny is n/a 1981-1983 fs5w71b (tall ears, single mount, right fill) Seeing what might be out there to get down off these jackstands.
  5. Did you ever source / solve the spacer issue? I have my S12w calipers and rotors for my new suspension. The additional space from the spacers isn't helping me with my wheels up front but can't see any others way.
  6. Oh... and take it easy on the new clutch for a while until everything is seated. They are much like brake pads and need time to conform to the flywheel and burn off any machining oil. Just go gentle for a while seemed to work for me. By "gentle" I mean drop the clutch instantly like a drunk chimp, or just super easy.
  7. You said " let out the clutch just a bit and it will shutter and the whole car vibrates". You should be able to let the clutch out 1-2" before anything happens? If you are too tight on the push tube to the clutch cylnder you might have the clutch slipping and perhaps already cooked it a little? I know my 240mm clutch likes lots of clearance, Tom.
  8. Yeah, they my wheels now. My wheels! ... My wheels!. Bought them in SF unseen, a friend dropped then in San Diego, another friend trucked them to Phoenix. And now 2 of them are sitting on a lathe about the be sectioned down tomorrow. I always wanted a staggered deep dish rear z and so I am going to have my machine shop cut and section 1.5" from the front rims. Car will be dropped on GC coilovers. It just seems in my mind that 15x10 is too big for the front of a Z. Intending to run 225/50x15 Kuhmos cause they are so cheap. Stretched in back and kinda normal up front. I f-ing up?
  9. On my Webers I had a problem when I would SLAM the throttle to the floor and the throttles would go too far and bend the little arm. Until I put a massive bolt in the floor as the primary Full Open stop the linkage was constantly fucked up. Probably not related to your issues, but it was an issue for me. Darn weber linkages are sensitive.

    Choosing a cam

This is what I want: Will send my "A Grind" stock cam that looks in bitchin shape to Isky tomorrow for a regrind to the "490".

    Choosing a cam

I am not looking at a Delta Cam. I called them for details but not going that way. Thanks for the link to the L24 with Triples - a setup I already have. The goal is 28 or better and the pleasure of knowing I did it or blew it up myself. I agree that ISKY seems like a decent route.

    Choosing a cam

Did I mention that now would be a great time to find an LD28 crank? Doing everything ourselves with the delightful cooperation of my buddies machine shop. Nice to have friends that have heavy equipment. Its a learning and bonding experience. I think they call it a double entendre'if I said that having a big crank would make me a better person.

    Choosing a cam

I drive thid car maybe 3 times a month. It has 5 point harnesses and toggle switches to turn it on. No soundproofing, no A/C and no door windows. Looking to overshoot slightly to the stupid side on the engine.

    Choosing a cam

Finished tearing the bottom end down tonight and still have the tranny to rebuild so no decision made yet. SHOCKED at the stuff I found in the water jacket. How dow water flow through the engine if the passages are plugged. No wonder the Head Gasket was yucked. For the record, an LD28 crank would be handy right now...

    Choosing a cam

Isky "490" grind is 290 advertised with 250 at 50 on 109.5 LSA for $120 with no heat treat (not needed he said). Using the little formula means 71 overlap is my math is right. Intriguing.
