  1. Cause it's only got a J15 in it lol
  2. I've been collecting parts to do this swap on my 620 for awhile now :-)
  3. Hi all, Just wondering if any Aussies can give me the measurement for the diff (wheel mounting faces) for a '76 LWB 620 please? I've done some searches & come up with different widths so not sure. The reason I need this is because I'm working away from home & can't do it myself. I'm wanting a guy to start on a trailer for me using a spare tub I have & can't get it to him for a few months. Thanks for any help, Al.
  4. It's a 76 model & still got the J15 in it but she's starting to get tired. I bought a CA18DET a few years ago but decided against it. I'm looking at an engine swap in the very near future...not sure what yet...KA, SR, VQ? even. I have to suss them out a bit more. I want it as a daily driver & still want to carry loads sometimes so something with a bit of torque & steering away from anything too peaky.
  5. Sounds like I could almost make it to both... Cheers.
  6. Hey Greiggy, can you give us a link or details to this show? My sons birthday is the 14th of May & I'll be in Beaudesert visiting him then. I'd love to swing over & see your ute... Cheers, Al.
  7. Agreed! It's great to see someone giving everything a go... Nah Gary, I wouldn't be selling if it was my only one. I still have the 76 that's registered & most of the parts put aside to do what I want to it when I can. I'm a Spraypainter (haven't worked in the trade for 10 years) & have experience with most things automotive...I still don't think I would give upholstery a go though... :)
  8. How many apprenticeships have you done on this thing so far Gary? Mechanical, Panelbeating, trimming etc... :) Are you a tradesman for something or just a jack of all trades? Good stuff mate...it's amazing what can be acheived with a bit of common sense, time & experimentation. Might be selling my 73 620 project at this stage...just don't have the time to get into it unfortunately :( Cheers, Al.
  9. Looking good Mate, bet you can't wait to get it back on the road. Cheers, Al.
  10. I have never seen MIG welds look that good before.......great to see you don't grind them before you paint as well. When they look that good the quality should be on display. Simply awesome.......
  11. Just hope I explained it properly, Cheers.
  12. Hey Gary, can I give you a small tip that may help with your sill if you haven't already welded it in? I was taught to cut a few access holes along the inner sill panel first so you can get in there with rustproofing later. Seal the holes with rubber grommets when your'e finished. Bend a small lip along the top edge of the new patch panel slightly more than 90 degrees & butt it under the original jamb metal. The bend in the patch panel will then be the new edge of the jamb so you have to cut the jamb metal back a few mm's to allow for the weld. You may still prefer to do it your way but I have found it's much easier to weld & you don't get any warping because the edge is strengthen by the lip. Also there is more weld left after you have ground it back so it's stronger. I hope I explained it properly, Cheers.
  13. From what I have been able to find out, late 78 620s onward had the balljoint frontend & you can use the discs & hubs from a 720 or D21 Navara. They bolt straight on apparently. The early 720's (pre 84 I think) had solid discs but after that & the D21's had ventilated which would be better. I've done a bit of research to do this to my 76 but unfortunately it has kingpins & much harder to do. I bought mine before I even knew about all the differences so you are lucky to be starting out with a 79. What do you mean by 'stretch'? The long wheel base or a King cab? Cheers, Al.
  14. That's awesome work, I love it.......
  15. Very nice....how good does that dash look? .
