  1. Dude!!you want to race with my L20B?? Ha!! one time!! hehehe never guess who this is??!!
  2. I was privledged in meeting Aole for the first time at Inn n Out Burgers in Carlsbad just lastnight!! It has to be fate that i would meet him while on vacation miles and miles away from Guam!! He is doing very well and we talked about Datsuns, Nissans and the engines that power them!! He was sporting his DatPak sticker on his new set of wheels too..He told me very passionately that the KA24DE would whip the FJ20 in power and liter size.. It was a true privledge for myself and my wife! Just to let you guys know, My family is just now recovering from the same thing! My 19 year old son was in a bad accident that left him in a coma and other injuries also..less than 2 years ago...He has made a full recovery. This is a very hard and trying thing to go through! God has blessed him and his family, and i'm sure he is strong enough to kick this in the butt!! Take it easy Aole! God Bless You and your Family. Vince
  3. Damn that is gonna be nice! I think your gonna be a happy camper with this build! Like your chamber work too..nice. I did alittle to the z24 head on our build but yours is berry berry shineyyy! Are you gonna do any thing to the piston tops too? Those ITM's look pretty tough. Are those head studs too? I'm gonna follow this one..i totally forgot about the z24i distributor, that'll work perfect! What i found when we used the z22 was they are alot more stable on the deck surace, and i guess the bore spacing having all the extra meat between cylinders unlike the z24. Man that thing took boost like it was nothing! No gasket failures at all. Keep on plugging away..i be following this one.

    turbo z24?!

Hmmm.....maybe i can explain it for you......well some are misinformed like yourself, and chose the wrong turbo or blower for their particular application (too small) and now are trying to build a given psi or boost and are superheating the air building too mch heat and are now trying to mask that heat thru a intercoolercooler, and now they have to turn it up even more to get the same boost and it creates a snow ball effect that is counterproductive!!! When they really needed a bigger blower/turbo to keep up and not superheat the air! Or in some cases they chose the wrong fuel suppy(not enough volume or wrong fuel regulator dsign)and are having lean issues and were maybe led to that direction from someone else but are not fixing the right problem! Others are looking for a particular "look" for their build and just plain want one? Others are maybe doing it so they can turn up the boost without worry of detonation or changing timing or fuel octane and do just what Datzenmike was talking about above! Again i am not against using one i just think it is not always needed for a combo, a bonus. Look i was doing this for a long time, didn't just start building these! And Yes the Carb set-up is still a different Animal than a EFI combo..Did my first blowthru in the late 90's.
  5. LS motor! or even better z24 turbo..beat the shit out of any KA!!!!!!!

    FJ20 info

Anybody know where to get a distributor for a FJ? I am trying to build up a motor and need a few more items: Distributor camshafts..or a known cam grinder that can set um up in the U.S.? I'm worried about the lash caps on the valves! plug wires with grommets..or a match from another motor maybe? I have 2 motors..one that is pretty complete with everything less the correct dizzy..the one i have looks to be a A series maybe? its got a vacuum advance diaphram and mechanical, dizzy is in pretty bad shape. The other motor was pretty rough, complete but spun rod bearings..thrust journal was bad. So I had the crank reground and repaired at Standard Crankshafts in NC. it looks brand new now! Would like to upgrade the cams and springs but sourcing this stuff is pretty hard. Heard alot of guys using stock internals with good results so i'll probably do just that for awhile. Also these were left overs from Aussie and Japan racers that came to Guam in the late 80's early 90's, so both are NA models they used in offroad railcars. The good one was practically brand new inside! it looked like a very low mileage motor or maybe a spare that just sat there! Luckily only 1 bore had some pretty good rust in it..i honed all cylinders and they look good and in spec, might just rering it and let it go! with the same bearings and all! we'll see. Compared the KA24e rings i have and i'll be damned they are a match! I might do a blowthru combo with this too! i have a Offy intake from a chevy Vega 4 banger and the port spacing is nearly identical..so i may tig weld a intake flange to this and walla a custom 4 barrel intake for a FJ20..beginning stages..of a loong awaited combo so i'm very excited about learning this motor. It looks to be one tough ass motor and the valve cover and head width alone are a very intimadating item, i love it! I just received a "Tall" model valve cover and it is even badder looking now. Can't wait to get this going!

    turbo z24?!

His setup didnt use any cooler it was straight to the carb..and no meth! there are many other combos outthere with the same whether it was turbo or big centrifugal blowers with big boost..no coolers were used..the carb/fuel pulls the heat out during its transfer..i am simply trying to explain that it isn't "always" needed to be used for "big power" in a blowthru combo because of this effect, call it a bonus!...making it easier and less "costly" to build a combo with. i hear it alot..you cant boost it over 2 pounds without a intercooler!...shit i've done 26+psi, guys have done 36+ without a ping at all. You would not be able to do that if you are boosting a EFI combo with out meth or a cooler of some sort...exception is if it was a "rear mounted" turbo EFI...all the long tubing would act like a intercooler to cool the charge air on its long travels up to the intake. i will try and log temp readings at the hat and after the the carb on the intake tract and see what is going on during full runs. need some iat sensors!

    turbo z24?!

No your wrong...a carb is a totally different Animal..it wont make more power from a addition of an intercooler..it will change when or if using a higher amount of boost and create more heat in the engine....But not anywhere the "same" as a fuel injected engine. The carb is an intercooler. Bill Lutz used a twin turbo'd BBC combo with "no intercooler"..he would've used a intercooler if it was needed to make more power!

    turbo z24?!

Things to know, blowthru doesnt need to have a intercooler to make good power and keep cool...like a efi set-up does. The carb itself is the intercooler in a sense.the raw fuel creates heat dissapation..and it works very well. Of course their probably are limits to it, i have read somewhere over 30 psi!! then you'd require intercooling. thats a shitload of boost! The manifold swap to a Z18 deal isn't worth it to me..just make or have someone weld you a log or a tube type manifold out of mild steel steam pipe from a supplier where you are. heavy guage and strong..to find a Z18 for parts will likely be very very hard. The manifolds (intake and exhaust) would definately swap to a z22 or z24, same stuff. If i was going to do one again for cheap and good ass power this is a parts list: 2300 holley 2 barrel(350cfm or 500cfm) EBAY$80 to 120 maybe, Bosch 044 pump Napa maybe $180 to 200, mallory bypass 4309 regulator forget price?, adapter for 2 barrel to mount stock intake $20bucks, 1/2" fuel lines feed and return from tank to reg and back to tank. disconnect the vaccum advance at distributor crank it back to 20 degrees total and you done. run it at about 12 psi boost on pump gas with stock parts. Or if your dead set on EFI..maybe due a Megasquirt to control just the injector/fuel side and a MSD 6ls i think it is ? this has a programmable timing feature..set your own curve and boost retard and all..youd have to lock out the centrif advance in the distributor and reference the megasquirt straight of the tach wire..easy to do.. Or do a full megasquirt for ignition too..use the Ford EDIS deal. the Z24 will take it for sure..we weighed our combo stock ST 720 truck with airconditioning, leaf suspension, no gutting or weight saving done. weighs in at 2725lbs with driver 200lb and fuel. to me that is heavy..It's making over 300 horsepower at the wheels. combo is stock crank, conn rods, some head porting, valve and seat work and wiseco forged pistons. Just turbo it!

    turbo z24?!

Just saw this felt i'll reply..I have done exactly this! with very good results..No ARP anything..stock head bolts ..stock OEM headgasket..and it is doing well. This past weekend has seen 18 psi boost and no probs. went low 12's at 115 mph in the quarter!! only thing to make sure is air fuel is right(wideband needed) and conservative timing is the most important thing! running this with about 18 degrees total timing with centrif advance OEM stock distributor..this set up is a blowthru using a 390cfm holley carb..A1000 pump and reg..offy intake manifold..homebuilt steam pipe exhaust..44mm gate..garrett gt35 turbo t4..3inch exhaust pipe and a cam that shouldnt even work with this combo..rough ass idle..not even a turbo grind! and stock OEM valve springs too! pistons are .040 over shelf Wiseco KA24de with valve releifs cut in them.. Note though i have used this same exact combo with a completely stock Z22 engine and have seen 20+psi with it...lived too! i honestly think you will not have a problem with stock Z24 pistons too..just take it slow and watch the airfuel and timing..dont get greedy early on! it is addicting. Guams favorite engine is the z24!! we have sprayed the shit out of these engines stock! probably 200 shot of NOS and they live with stock pistons.. now they will come on here and slam me for saying this but it is the truth! Z24's RULE!! the George Fury turbo Z engine ruled for a looong time too! L20b's suck!!!!!!
  11. if i can send this! this is 12.7 at 112 mph..shitty video quality but it is sound!!<embed width="600" height="361" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullscreen="true" allowNetworking="all" wmode="transparent" src="http://static.photobucket.com/player.swf" flashvars="file=http%3A%2F%2Fvid1242.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fgg523%2Fmedengines%2FMOV00292.mp4">
  12. I'm using the 8 inch toyota rear out of the early model hilux's, forget the length axle to axle..do you have any pics of the mounted rear with tires on? Wanting to narrow this one too just need to do it i guess! Right now i finished making my undr bed fuel cell and clearing room for future ladder bar or 4 link suspension..want to put bigger slicks and rim combo! would like a 10 inch wide slick if possible..dont know if it'll go in there though... More pics please...like your fab work too!! keep it up!!!
  13. what he said...clock the center section! cant do it the other way...will be"no worky" quickly!! let the smoke out!!
  14. Gear selection available endless! limited with the nissan stuff.. the reason i went to a 8 inch toyota!
