  1. I am currently running a purolator and have yet to have a filter related issue in the 7 or so years of using them. Maybe ill try a pureone filter next time and see if it helps.
  2. Everything i found said .012 so thats what i adjusted them to. Changed oil to a 20w50 since it will be getting hot here soon. No more extreme rattle. Still very faint one at startup but nothing near as concerning. On another note, starter took a dive on me this morning i believe.
  3. Quoting datzenmike here, Loosen the nut and turn the screw in or out lock the nut again. Intake and exhaust at both set at 0.012". Just slip a feeler gauge between cam lobe and the adjuster. Set motor to TDC #1 and set ex. and in. on #1 int. on #2 ex. on #3 Turn motor ONE revolution and set ex. on #2 int. on #3 int. and ex. on #4..... done. You would actually measure between adjuster and top side of the valve correct?
  4. Yes. Smoke is coming from where oil spilled on the manifold. I am gonna check valve clearance this evening weather permitting.
  5. The smoke you are seeing is where oil had dripped down yesterday.
  6. I can agree for sure. Trying to upload video of the sound as i type this
  7. I am aware of that. But i also realize abnormal noises.and this has to qualify as abnormal
  8. With the cover off last night, there was no slack in the chain. I was expecting to see something out of sorts there. Even now with it slightly warm the rattle has gone at idle but can be heard with part throttle around 2000 rpm with no load. Hard to test a stick with a power brake method.
  9. Changed the oil when i did the head gasket. Havent driven 1000 miles yet i know. I ran castrol 10w30 and i would NEVER buy a fram oil filter. Currently using purolator oil filter. Going on initial check all valves seem to be similar in play. Maybe even a very slight bit tight.
  10. Guess ill have to let it rattle until hot.
  11. I have recently stated in another thread that i had a rattle on startup that would go away after about 5-10 seconds. Would be audible slightly as the engine warmed up. Well as of this morning the noise is much more audible. Listen more to it and it sounds more like its coming from cylinder 3 or 4. Pulled the valve cover and i dont see anything out of place. Anything common on the z22 engine specific to certain cylinders?
  12. The new warranty replacement pump has done pretty decent over the past few days. I have gone around 200 miles on it and the only stalling i have got it to do is when making hard turns in a parking lot. I am pretty certain my oil leak is coming from the oil pump itself, not the crank seal as everything else looks dry. Very small drip here and there. I also think the pump isn't pumping hard enough as on initial start up there is a good bit of clattering and such for the first 4 to 5 seconds then tends to fade away. Once engine is good and warm the noise never occurs again until the next start up. Either pump or a bad timing chain tensioner which would suck given I just replaced it when doing the head gasket.
  13. Yes. Only when coming to a stop or at idle. The pump thay died while driving has a lifetime warranty so grabbed another. Just took it for a drive and it did fantastic excelt when making a very slow u turn. Did die when turning steering wheel to full lock. Fired right back up. On another note, noticed the oil pump has a very slight leak. Ugh.
  14. Got it to stall in the driveway last night. Fuel can be seen up to the dot on the sight glass. Ignition was cut as truck died. Seems like an idle air problem.
