Start them young and they learn to respect the firearm and are safer with it.
Exactly. Growing up we had a gun closet. It had a padlock on the door and that's where the firearms were kept. I knew I couldn't touch anything or go in there unless my dad was there, and I knew I'd get an ass kicking if I did and he wasn't. We used to go to the range and plink .22's when I was like 6 or 7, had my junior hunting permit at 12, and hunting permit at 16. Gun safety starts at an early age!
