  1. It's funny........ You never realize or pay attention to how many are of these vehicles are still out on the road until you own one (or a fan). Then you notice cuz your driving the same thing!
  2. I'm up in Blue River. Just east of you. Nice little Crx as well. I'm a newbie as well, but welcome! Guys are talking about their first's and well I'm proud to say that my first was a nissan. An 88' Maxima. I loved that car. I sold it in 96. A friend of mine told me they were sitting next to it at a stoplight in Longview Wa. a couple of days ago. It's still going.
  3. Ok guys, I have spark, fuel and good compression 140 all the way down. But yet the issue is still occurring. I've even changed out the fuel filter.
  4. A friend of mine had said that as well (Vapor lock). How would I go about solving that issue? The carb sits about 3in off the intake.
  5. I will be able to do a compression check once i get the truck home. Right now it's behind a locked gate at my local dump. Had to leave it there and take my wife to the hospital (from the dump in her dodge) cuz I (not intentionally) stabbed her hand with a hay fork.
  6. Strong smell of gas coming from exhaust. Getting spark as well.
  7. I've been working out the bugs and ticks out of the rebuild I completed not to long ago. Learning a bit more as I go. Now I have this weird (at least to me it's weird) issue taking place. When I fire the motor cold, it's fires right up. After driving for a while, shutting it down, doing what I need to do. I go to fire it back up and nothing. However, If I let it sit and get cool it'll fire right back up. Is there any ideas of what it may be or where to start looking for the issue?
  8. wishing my truck was at home!

  9. Hello to my fellow datsun owners and enthusiests

  10. Hello everyone, Thanks to whoever created this kickin site. My name is James and I reside in Blue River Or. and I've had this truck for almost ten years. She started off as a three speed automatic. Since then shes been swapped out with a four spd. and now a five spd. I just finished rebuilding the motor. Using parts from other trucks and what I was able to get my hands on. My goal is to keep her alive and not see her in the wrecking yard. This little pick up has been my best asset and has gotten me out of so many binds. To give you an idea what I've done with the motor and your opinion: the block was bored 1mm over, the pistons(dished) I had aquired from the bed of another truck and were in great condition rods already attached, the crank had to be replaced and was ground .50 to match the main bearings I already had. The head (I bought fully assembled on ebay for a killer deal of 150.00) is a W53 closed chambered peanut style, the cam I'm honestly unsure of its specs. Stock intake, 4 to 2 square port exhaust manifold (found at a wrecking yard) and a 32/36 weber carb. May not be a true performance engine, but she moves. Now to figure out how to post a pic

As for the intake. I've matched it up to the head and it fits perfectly. I picked up a non egr intake on ebay as well. The head displayed round port intake square port exhaust. The original intake I had already blocked off when I removed the EGR system.

I was fortunate to findnthe W53 on ebay completely remanned. After winning the head I did take it to a machine shop to see if anything was missed. Since my pickup has the electric fuel pump I'm using the block off plates that were on the original head. As for the power aspect. I know these vehicles are fun as hell. But, I'm far from a novice when it comes to mechanics. The basic idea was just to get the old girl back on the road and me to work. So I'm using what I already have and what I'm able to interchange. One oif the best parts of doing this for me is the fact that I'm working on the truck behind a friends shop. I guess you can say I've my own on site mechanic. He helps me with alot of my technical questions. As the progress goes along I will take some photos and post them. For any additional info that might help me out.

THank Everyone who read this. I was able to find a square port manifold this morning. And for my next trick. I'm getting some money together and am going back to where I found the manifold and picking up both A87's I found and have them rebuilt. Any how I should have my pickup back road worthy tomorrow. Just wanted to say thanks to those who helped with the issue.

I blew the head gasket the other day, and since I'm in that period of time with no money. i'm using parts that I had purchased a while back. So instead of using the head that came off the block. I'm using a W53 close chambered peanut head. My question is if I did the stupid act of mismatching the exhaust ports between head and manifold will it seal ok?
