Can someone tell me the tread diameter of the water coolant temperature sensor?

Hey everyone On my datsun 620 1976, the charge lights comes on, when i turn on the lights, and shut off when i turn the lights off... I am unsure if replacing it with a replacement 35a alternator will fix this, or i should try to upgrade it to a better one? or could it be some other problem? Kind regards
