  1. Powersteering. Good point, thanks Datzenmike.
  2. My 4x4 720's center link snapped up in the woods, no part stores seem to have it for the 4x4. Does anything like the d21 match it? Or will I have to buy used? Thanks!
  3. I have a FSM from 1986 model year on my Gdrive that's a searchable PDF if anyone needs it. Can't be much different from the 1985 truck I have.
  4. @Logical1 AH yeah, sorry I was thinking of the SOHC KA24 has the same exhaust stud patterns. Oh okay, thanks for clearing that up.
  5. 85' 4x4 720 here, I'm looking to do exactly what you are doing. I didn't expect the power-steering to be a problem though. It would be nice to keep but wouldn't mind that sacrifice. Doesn't the Z24 pacesetter header bolt up to the KA24DE? I think I read somewhere it might be true. @Atma So the Z24 pan actually bolts right up to the bottom of the KA24DE? 🤯 If that's true, this swap will happen a lot quicker haha.
  6. Please do, I've been lurking here for years waiting for my z24 to blow up on me so I can consider a KA24DET swap on my 85' 720 4x4 then move to a straight axle and lift. I love this truck. I take it camping stock and it's been an excellent truck to rally around in the PNW. I have considered buying a new truck like a Ranger, Colorado, Tundra, or that fancy new Bronco, but I'm in love with the character of these trucks, just hard to work on them when you don't have a garage you live near.
  7. Sorry for the late post, I've been wrapped up in personal stuff. Would this work with a MoMo adapter you think? The plastic horn part goes in between the squares of the steering wheel and rests behind it. Pretty cool if I could get it on there. I only see three holes available for the adapter to attach to it.
  8. Hey Ratsun, I have the original steering wheel (4x4) but I also had a friend pull off a steering wheel off a pick-n-pull Nissan (also 4x4) but I think he forgot to pull the adapter. I'm not quite sure what the new steering wheel I have but it looks universal. What can I get to put this new one on. I kind of like it because it looks like it's from one of the ones in off-road rally arcade game and pretty sturdy. Do I get a Nissan 720 hub and try and make this work? Thanks
  9. Ah, yeah it's a light bar. I thought maybe I was missing something to make it more solid. Oh well, guess it will live as a glorified light bar and antenna holder. Thanks everyone!
  10. Well the arches that come down go to the wheel well, they just don't fit on top of the bump nicely on the wheel well. The straight beams fit fine and can be adjusted, and probably mount to whatever. His was a King Cab like mine, but maybe the year difference is the issue of why it's not lining up right. I'll grab more pics during my lunch break. This is exactly what I have after some searching, but i'll still grab more pics.
  11. Hey guys, This weekend i'm installing a Datsun roll bar into my 85' Nissan 720. I found it last year off another 720 that was being stripped for parts. Since then, I sanded it down and primed and painted the whole thing and it's just been sitting in my pickup without being bolted down. What I forgot to record was how I took it out. Theres a bump in the wheel well part of the bed where it should mount which makes it uneven. I was wondering if I'm missing a bracket or something. My buddy and I were just going to fabricate one that fits the bump along the wheel well. Strangely I feel like I maybe don't need one. Anyone have any advice? Thanks! Roll bar "Datsun Approved"

    720 4x4 KA24DE swap

If the stars align correctly to get the project in motion, my aim is to get a quality youtube production so people can see and have references. I really like documenting, so showing people an exciting project like this would be a fun side thing. Reading more about it, the oil pan is probably the most complicated. I have a friend who is a quality welder, so it isn't a deal breaker. I thought because of having a 4x4 it might have more room, but then I remember someone said to get rid of the cross member I would have to go with a SAS. Hmm, unique oil pan or more money to fork out for a straight axle and more welding...

    720 4x4 KA24DE swap

Hey everyone, I've had my 720 for 2 daily driving years now, and I still love manual everything. Super easy to work on and reliable. I will keep it for a LONG time (I think modern cars are a joke) and now want to make it the way I have started fantasizing what the truck could be. I'm interested in the KA24DE swap because I'm currently talking to a guy that wants to get rid of his whole KA24DE and 5trans with harness from a 91 240sx and I have the money. Current description: "Selling my Nissan 2.4l ka24de engine and 5-speed trans out of my 91 Nissan 240sx runs and drives 130 compressions on all 4 bottom ends was just rebuilt and it still burning oil head wasn't touched so could be either valve seals or the rings didn't seat no ticks or knocks! Will come with harness and everything has a new clutch still in the car if you want to hear it nice aftermarket header" Issues don't bother me, I'll probably rebuild it fresh. I was wondering if this would fit my 720 4x4, I know to buy some engine mounts (or was it an electric box from one of the users here?) and possible oil pan modification I can't exactly remember. I prefer EFI for high altitudes when I go snowboarding and the extra power will be awesome climbing hills cause the current engine is really pushing it on uphill highways (I will miss how less complex carb is, but carbs aren't great for dusty mountain air too). My important question is, would this mate well for my 4x4 85 720? KA24DE is the pretty common engine but how are quality/expensive parts? Aftermarket considerations? (maybe a turbo since I heard there are some kits if I want to get spicy). Working on this engine is probably a little bit more complex due more electrical but I want to hear opinions on working on it? I really appreciate input from communities like this though, I mostly lurk here and sometimes seek advice for issues. I also was a huge 1st gen Isuzu trooper fan at planetisuzoo but come to love Datsun/Nissan parts availability and looks. Thanks so much.
  14. I'm looking to replace my lights as well @datzenmike what lenses and housings did you end up using? Would something like this work? https://www.carid.com/1985-nissan-pick-up-headlights/lumen-4x6-rectangular-halo-led-headlights-391098922.html then buying cheap bulbs?
  15. I plan to put a canopy on the back and make it a camper in the rear. trying to max the storage for camping. :P
