  1. no the head was not taken off. replacing time chain tensioner with an adjustable one. the guy who replaced the chain before didn't do a good job.truck won't get over 45mph. thats why i am going to attemt to fix it myself . i am currently waiting on an engine building friend of mine. but thats it waiting on someone else!
  2. so my first order of business is to make sure the #1 piston is at tdc okay got that part. next order of business is to make sure that i rotate the camshaft to close the #1 intake and exhaust valves before putting on the timing chain?

this is my first attempt at building ka24 engine .when lining up the timing marks .does it matter if the intake valves are open or closed? looking for verification. thanks for your responses in advance.i do have a chilton manual that i am using along with the haynes maunal
  4. anyone on here ever used an of the aftermarket replacement sending units seen on ebay. i broke the little black connector off of mine.the one that the yellow wire connects to. ant helpp is greatly appreciated.
  5. Thanks Datzenmike for your response. I am off work today so I will be wrenching on this with my buddy. Is getting harder and harder to keep these old school babies going, but it’s worth it. Not interested in electric powered vehicles. I’m old school and like old school stuff!!
  6. 620 starts up when cold. Won’t pick up speed quickly. After driving for about 15 minutes. Cut it off and it doesn’t want to start back up. Replaced the starter because thought it was bad. After replacing starter with new on still does the same thing. Cranks fine when cold but not when it’s hot?

    timing set up

is it possible to set the timing on z24 1985 model without taking the cover off? had a head gasket put on mine. it want pick up any speed and it backfires through the car. another shop said the timing might be off a little.
  8. banzai510 you were right .the timing is off.had a guy come over to my house and check it out. hopefully i can get him back over here to time the engine. he would have done it then but his son had a soccer game. if i knew how to do it i would do it myself.
  9. while i am on the subject of fuel.anyone here ever replaced the fuel pump check valve?
  10. Thanks Tommy i will change all this out over the weekend.
  11. i put a new OEM pump on this truck last year.I have replaced all of the filters. i guess my next move would be to replace the rubber fuel lines.i replaced the ones under the hood, but not coming from the tank in about 15 years since i last had the bed off for a paint job. will i have to remove the bed to replace the rubber lines coming from the tank. nd i will drain that tank .thats a good idea. i have not done that since i have had the truck.
  12. will do this tomorrow raining right now
