OK I have been looking scouring the area for a potential candidate. Below is what I have lined up for comment / feedback. But mostly for me to review what has been said against what I have found. 1. 1974 Datsun 620 - 2 Wheel Drive, Short Bed, Comes complete with everything - Frame swap and part out rest. Located an hour from me - $450 2. 1976 Datsun 620 - 2 Wheel Drive, Long Bed, Comes with everything, in great running condition - Move my 4x4 parts to this truck and part out Located 350 miles from me - $2150 3. 1982 Datsun 720 - 2 Wheel Drive, Short Bed, Comes running and driving - Frame swap and part out the rest Located 25 miles away from me - $350 4. 1984 Nissan 720 - 4 Wheel Drive IFS, Extended cab, Long bed, Comes running and driving - Frame swap and part the rest Located 100 miles from me - $500 My first instinct is to jump on the 76 Datsun in great condition and just move pieces over to it. But my reserved instinct is to go with the cheaper 74 and do the swap.

Lockleaf got back to me and his 720 rolling frame sounds to good to be true with it being ready to go. This is my first Datsun project. What are the differences between a 720 frame and a 620. Have to do some good research to warrant the next efforts in trying to get that setup from Utah to Virginia.

I will try to find him. Found another local listing of a guy selling two below. I'll take any thoughts about any of these being candidates for frame swap. I understand some modification needed. Maybe biggest and most obvious question is can a KING cab frame be shortened in the back to fit short bed? Yes now we are talking. However that particular truck was sold yesterday for $350 and it actually runs, drives, rust free frame and was given a 30 day warranty. The search continues. I did find a 76 620 2wd in Wichita KS that apparently has a rust free frame. Guy wants 800 for entire truck. Could probably get him down significantly but thats a 2k mile round trip for me. Honestly this blows knowing that one in Baltimore could have worked and was cheap and accessible.

Original post was about startup and general inquiry. It might have morphed into some of the frame issues. I can delete the first one if necessary. I am looking to gather information about frame swaps, frame suggestions, frames all.

Yes have the solid axle already and motor runs great for that matter. Just need new frame. I will take your advice and look for anything 72-77 / 620-720 / 2wd-4wd. Just so I know for sure, no one recommends the 82 frame that is readily accessible now?

Yes already 4x4. Yes keeping it 4x4. I can work with a 2WD frame and make modifications. Question is do i need to stay in the 76 range / Short bed or can i get away with other years / sizes / or even a toyota frame? There is an 82 datsun 2wd easily accessible now, wondering if it will work.

Frame is broken in too many places to salvage it. Easier to start over with something that may need a little work. Goal is to keep it the way it is but running on the street / trail.

My original intentions might have been to keep it all original, but quickly leaning towards Frankenstein-ing this thing, or at least the frame portion. I will look into your suggestions for possible frame swaps and keep reading up on other threads. Vehicle is about to go to Richmond barn to be stored for a year tops. I am working on a plan for the frame. Worrying about the wire is least of troubles but was more a curiosity question upon getting motor to start. I have someone coming over this week to help me form a plan for the frame. I look every night on craigs and random sites looking for a frame from a parts truck. My problem will be if I find something worth the swap...that I don't end up with two trucks I want to restore. B)

Yes first attempt was with gas in tank. But then found some cables above tank not connected to anything and just could not get any gas to gravity feed into new filter. So drained it and created gravity fed mock up. Did do the pump first then discovered hose beyond was dry rotted, do abandoned that and went straight to carb. I am curious though about this random wire coming from carb shown in picture. I have no clue where it goes or why its hanging out unconnected.
