  1. Ok took the cluster out and cleaned it a little and checked the gauge... replaced the cluster and grounded the wire at the sensor and the gauge works now, so I while I was replacing the thermostat I went ahead and put the old sensor back in and everything works now. I honestly don't know why it all works now or why it affected the starting when I installed the new sensor, but at least it all works
  2. I haven't had a chance to dig into yet... Im hoping this weekend I can get to it
  3. i promise to update when i figure it out... i hate it when threads die
  4. i just happy i'm not a moron! as far as this is goes lol
  5. which brings me back to the original question... obviously this isnt a common datsun thing where a dead short in the temperature sensor wiring kills spark to the coil so I'm gonna pull the wire all the way to dash and see what the hell ive got going on
  6. did that too... it runs and starts fine with the old one. also i started it with new one unplugged and then connected it in while it was running. it stayed running and now starts and runs with it connected, but of course the gauge still doesnt work which makes me feel like connecting while running killed the new sensor idk.. so somewhere between the sensor an
  7. right... I never thought anything was mixed up. Im just glad this isnt a normal thing... its an all original 521 no modifications of any kind. To be clear none of you have ever had issues with the temperature sensor wiring causing starting issues...
  8. ok posted the pic links... thought i did it right so it was the images and not links, but apparently not

  10. ok give me minute to send pics... first time remember. second... Im pretty excited I got responses from Wayno and Datzen... im a little honored totally solid yellow wire. and i now im a newbie to the forum and this particular Datsun, but im a long time mechanic that possibly thought this might stump you guys.
  11. I wasn't clear when I answered before... it looks fully yellow to me. No white stripe. I'm in the process of posting pics
  12. When I ground it like that nothing happens which makes me think dead ground between somewhere... but would that affect starting?
  13. Yes it's temperature sensor wire, but my voltmeter is broken so my testing ability is limited. And I thought I was posting in the 521 thread... I didn't know if posting there would get more eyes... thanks for the advice
