Thanks again. I ended up with a GMB from Japan. Everything was easier to put back together than it was to take apart! Running smoothly now, but I still have to figure out the front end play. Just replaced sway bar spindle assemblies; hopefully that will help.

Before reading posts on this site, I didn't even think I had multiple options for new parts. I just figured if you could find anything new, it was better than pulling a used part (depending on part type). I have access to used parts, but getting that radiator on and off is tough, so I don't want to have to replace it anytime soon. Thanks for the recommendations!

I bought my 1980 720 4x4 about 15k miles ago(at 35k). After about 125 miles into my trip home from buying it in San Diego, the water pump started leaking, and I had it replaced at a Pep Boys. Now the fan has started wobbling. I don't know anything about buying parts, and I'm wondering what my options are (have not called stores/dealerships yet), price vs. Quality, etc. Any advice would be appreciated!

It's had new tires put on since the collision. Besides being more heavily worn on the insides of the tread on the front tires due to the play, the wheels are fine.

I recently had the front left idler arm and steering stabilizer replaced at a shop. When I got it back and drove it a few blocks I noticed there was still play in the steering. I took it back to the shop, did some inspection with a mechanic and he showed me there was too much play in the steering column, suggested messing with the steering box adjustment. I adjusted it a few times; the steering gets harder, but the front end still wanders around.

1980 720 single cab. It was in a collision, replaced many front end parts, but there is lots of play in the steering. I have access to a 1982 720. Will this steering box be compatible? I'm wondering how much labor this will be, what tools are required, and if I need any new fittings. Any advice on cleaning the replacement would also be appreciated.

I have not smelled any fuel, anywhere. I changed the fuel filter and a few of the lines anyways. Air filter looked fine; replaced it anyways. Thermostat was replaced within the last month/1000 miles. I ran the engine at around 3k for a minute, let it die and checked the spark plugs. The one furthest from the radiator was black, middle ones brown, and closest to the radiator white.

I just bought a 1980 720 4x4. It has only 35k miles on it, so there are a lot of parts that have not been replaced. After putting 600 hundred miles on it, the fuel economy dropped to around 6 mpg. I added berrymans b12 chemtool halfway through the trip. It is not a fuel leak. I replaced some vacuum lines and heater hose with no results. Tried spraying carb fluid on the lines with no result. It is also idling high, which has been happening since the belts were replaced on the day I got the truck. Possibly a carburetor issue?
