#1474322 Post your engine bays

Posted by Crashtd420 on 25 March 2017 - 12:46 PM

I can only hope mine turns out as clean...
So far i only pulled the wires I need to into the engine bay, enough so I could start my motor.. now I need to hide and cover things.

Actually other way....no that black was my doing.... original color is that beige color underneath..... I painted the whole truck about 15 years ago with 20 cans of 99cent flat black from homedepot....

#1474253 Start the Engine with no Key - how do you Hotwire ?

Posted by Crashtd420 on 25 March 2017 - 07:59 AM

Well black and yellow goes to the starter... I think the white is 12v, black white should be ignition and the blue acc...
You should be able to tie the white, black and white, and blue together to make all the lights turn on.... touch power to the black and yellow and the starter should start cranking.....

Figured I'd share this.... this is what pays the bills...

This is the biggest part I work on...
It's the inside half of a very large 4.5ft diameter x 5ft tall hydrostatic bearing.

Trish,
Give it a lot of thought. They're only original once. Something that can't go back original on such a rare machine might need to be given serious consideration. Just my humble opinion. I realize that some would disagree.

Steve

2nd that.... I'd even keep the paint as is if possible.... good possibility it's original.... may have been neglected but looks all there....

Boy Trish you and your husband like some rare cars.. nice score for you good luck with the project.... and to your husband he has one sweet project.... had to look it up to see what it was... never even heard of one....
You so need to tell him you want that motor in the datsun, get a tape measure out and start measuring his motor and when asks what's up tell that it should fit.. which I doubt it will but you can mess with him a bit...

Your definitely correct I have mine connected like you do too mike, and I added a switch to turn things on just incase the temp sensor failed....
B2fresh seemed really intend on using an ignition source on the relay I was just trying to answer his direct question...

Mike I understand what your saying. I believe he said he has the temp sensor for the negative side of the coil.... so It will only be on when engine is hot and ignition on...

He's only trying to trip positive side of the relay coil with ignition... that should take around .1amp to trip the coil.. I can't imagine it would effect anything.... if he was trying to power the fans with it I would say no way...

#1471794 Ebay china rods for L16. Any good ?

Posted by Crashtd420 on 17 March 2017 - 07:07 AM

Other than weight, The only difference to me was the style piston that you could run with it...
Easier to assemble and disassemble a floating pin vs stock which is pressed into the rod and floats the piston...
But you can modify stock to except a floating pin piston which I found out after I bought mine... so there goes that argument..
And from what I've read stock rods are good even for race application but it is said that the weak link is the rod bolts, they recommend converting to 3/8.
if you happen to have the 9mm bolt version even better.. at minimum I'd replace the 8mm with arp if I was gonna still run the stock rods...
So basically there's not much benefit or difference... maybe availability?
Not sure how ready available stock rods are now a days for the l series motors never really looked....

Do you have an electric choke on your carberator? That would be hooked to ignition..
