  1. I run 14x7 +3 on the front and 14x7.5 -3.5 on the rear with 185 55's. Had to roll the rear arches but not much and run -1 camber on the front.
  2. Seems this post has gone off on yet another awesome tangent. Nice to see at least some of you guys tried to help this guy out with some info, I'll try to do the same. I run Wat's with a slight stagger 14x7 +3 on the front and 14x7.5 -3.5 on the rear on 185 55's. I run 510 T3 coilovers on the front which gives a narrower track than the 280's, someone please chime in with the difference (there are disadvantages to the 510 struts though, narrower spindles, bearing less durable, etc.). I don't have any poke but I run about -1.0 camber on the front. Looks like you are going for 14x7.5 -6, that would bring you approximately .75 of an inch further out than what I run. You will likely need to roll the arches and crank the camber to around -5 degrees, maybe less? If not will will probably need to pull the arches, but I don't think you'll need to if you're ok with a bit of negative camber. I did roll the inner arches on the rear but no flare. You are going for flares on the rear though so you're not concerned with that. I'll try to attach an image here to show you the fit. Good luck, your Dime is yours - make it an expression of yourself!
  3. Great stuff, thanks all for your input. I try to find some time this weekend to take a look. I guess the rattle under full throttle could be pinging, the engine is at 12:1 and just barely runs without knocking on shutdown on 93. Will keep you posted!
  4. I've tried 10W, still get it and our summers are so hot that I end up with 10PSI oil pressure in traffic when it's 100 degrees out. Now I run VR1 to boost the pressure and it rattles less. I don't drive it in the cold - we salt our roads in the winter. I'm sure you're right, VR1 is like syrup. What would you recommend for an oil pump?

    L20B Oil Pump

Can anyone recomend a good oil pump for an L20B please? I get a little rattle on start up and sometimes on full throttle, think it's not getting enough oil, nothing in the pan though. Thanks
  6. I'll keep you posted, they might be worth holding onto though.
  7. I agree, smells awesome. Though I'm remarkably tired after a decent drive! That's not going to happen, my Wats are staying. I've got a pretty good offset on there +3 on 7's on the front so I'm hoping a spacer will do the rest. If not my buddy can keep them! That will leave me looking for new brakes though and as I have dug this "510 struts" hole for myself, my options will be few.
  8. The cool factor is definitely part of the decision. But the cooling is a very real consideration also. It's not how fast you go, it's how well you go fast :) At some point, I will be putting in an SR20DET, but not until I know I can start it and finish it in a set amount of time. At that stage the car will be more worthy of the Wilwoods I think. My wife will appreciate it too, she's not a fan of odeur de Datsun (that's another subject - I have Mikuni 44's and they stink).
  9. T3, I've not run them yet though as I'm waiting on my 510 hubs. Will let you know!
  10. You are right, of course. You are absolutely right. Far be it from me to disagree with someone on this subject that uses stock Toyota Birfield joints on a series 1. Settle down.
  11. Yes, I agree. But they offer much better braking than 280ZX brakes do. As I said, if 280ZX parts were really going to help me out in a huge way then of course I would consider it. My wheels are not made by Nissan either and my L20B is not a 510 engine. However each offer an element that I could not otherwise have gained through 510 parts. I'd stop going to shows if every car was built in accordance with a recipe and not the individuals personal view of what their car should/could be.
  12. I have 14" Wats, I don't need much clearance and also have camber plates for any fine adjustment required. I can't get replacement Wilwood calipers or rotors at NAPA. I understand why 280ZX struts are a great swap, they are just not what I was looking for. My preference for 510 parts is along the same lines as someone who values a matching numbers car over a car of equal quality but with an engine from another car of the same model. If 280ZX parts were really going to help me out in a huge way then of course I would condsider it. But a bearing is cheap, easy to replace and readily available. I don't drive old cars because it saves me money.
  13. Personal preference. As I will be using wilwood brakes, there really are no beneifts to using the 280ZX struts other than them being newer than the 510 struts, and as these have been reconditioned and tested that does not factor.
