    Quick help needed..

Cool thanks for that. I'm put it on anyway because I think it might be for other models, and the hole its meant to go in is filled in. Having another problem now of it not starting. Sounds like there is no life it's just turning over. Spark plugs are in, heads tight, rocker gear is tight. But I did use rocker gear off the second hand head that I put on it, maybe they need adjusting.
  2. Hey, I had to replace the head gasket on my 120y, so I brought a gasket, just the graphite ones. Just about to work on it, but saw it has a little oring that I have to fit. I looked it up and it sais to fit it on the block. But there is no where it can go? I know it fits into block as seen here http://datsun1200.com/modules/myalbum/photo.php?lid=24735 But all the holes are too big...and the only other one is just an indent next to the thinner bolt hole. Any help would be great Thanks

    Broken head bolt

Hey Daniel. Yeah I guess I didn't clean the holes enough. I used a normal head bolt, some rags, brake cleaner and a straw to blow it all haha. I have read of cutting a couple of lines in a head bolt and using that to clean the thread? I didn't check the block, but the head was skimmed. I honestly can't see the block warped but will check anyway.

    Broken head bolt

Hey, I am in the process of replacing the head gasket on my 120y, but when I torqued up the bolts, one broke :( I was lucky enough to remove it ok. But not sure if I can use the same head gasket? It's obviously new but since it has half torqued up I had to pull the head off again. Is it ok to just clean the gasket with a rag and reuse it or do I need another one? Also I think the bolt broke either because my k.c. tools torque wrench didn't click or the bolt holes werent clean properly. I oiled them before going in, and between the washer surfaces. Though they were the old bolts, maybe this was the problem.. Thanks for your help
  5. Hey dguy thanks. Is there a way to tell if wet or dry or should I just go by stamp numbers?
  6. Ahh actually it was that site I read it from. It said something about oil galleries being different, I'm not sure if it was for that head though. Is the compression the same for vans and sedans? Cheers mate
  7. Thanks for your quick response Mike. Just getting head machined but realised it's got m30 and d54 on the new head. Apparently it's off a van? My old one had no numbers on it. Can I use the new head or will I have problems? It's a 74 120y sedan. Cheers!
  8. Hey, I've got a 120y that I just pulled the head off, after it was overheating and losing coolant. I just want to ask some questions.. I have a manual but still like to know. 1 - Do I need to change the head bolts? They look fine and aren't damaged. I don't think the head has ever been removed but I could be wrong. 2 - I read somewhere about oil ring seals on the block? I didn't see any seals when I was cleaning the block. Does the 120y have these seals or is it just the head gasket itself? 3 - I also read about leaving the bit of build up carbon around the top of the bores. I wiped around the top of bores when I was cleaning the block and might have cleaned it up. 4 - On the rear cylinder bore it is not smooth to touch as if it has oxidized a little from where the water has come through. Is it ok to use scotchbrite or similar to scuff it up a bit? The other cylinders have honing marks in them still but the rear one doesn't. Thanks in advance :) Cheers!
