1. Some pics of the car's setup ">http:// ">http:// ">http:// ">http://http://s1064.photobucket.com/user/kanzdj1/media/510/20160619_193556.jpg.html'>
2. Yea, the carbs will probably have to get a good cleaning. Varnish? Do you mean on the :crying: Thanks No plans for a junkyard that is for sure. I need to tow to a shop, or a different storage location. Yes, never let the car sit too long without starting it! I any case, what are your guys' opinions?? Debris stuck somewhere in the carbs? There is supposed to be fuel squirting into the barrels correct?
3. I took the carb cover off and filled the fuel bowl with gas directly. Yes, i really do not want to take it to a shop but I am running out of time where the car is currently stored. I need to get the car out of the space within a week. I would really like to fix it myself. I live in Los Angeles and was wondering if anyone has any experience with Mike’s Z Shop in Whittier, or any other reputable shops in LA? I think the problem is that no fuel is squirting out into the barrels. Something must clogged…but on both carbs? I would probably have to take the carbs off and do a full clean through. After I took the carb cover off, I did notice that the accelerator pump circuit rod was stuck on one of the carbs. I fixed that. I took a video and some pics of the car’s setup for you guys to have a reference. Are the accelerator pump circuit rods supposed to move up and down that slowly? I don’t see any fuel squirting out into the chambers. Video: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B6yb58hHiQOTTm10RFRpQlFld1E (Having issues with the pics)
4. Hey guys, apologies for the delay on updates. I'm traveling for work right now and I'll be posting a lengthier update soon but I wasn't able to get it started. Put gas directly into carb bowls to bypass any fuel delivery issues and couldn't get the engine running. Sputtered for a little but wouldn't fully start. Sucks but may have to take into a shop unfortunately due to a time crunch. I'll post details in a day or two
5. It is strange that both carbs are having the issues. I presume both happen to be clogged up somehwere?
6. So funny..I've actually watched both part 1 and 2 soooo many times the past 2 weeks. Thanks for the link anyways. Hopefully it will help some other out, or if anyone is interested in Weber sidedraft carbs. It looks like i will just have to at least get the cover off, look around, clean different parts with carb cleaner...on both carbs. I really hope this works out.
7. i see. ok, well im going to take the cover off probably this weekend and clean some pieces. Understood. I will check to see if i have a hole in the float, thanks.
8. Did you end up replacing the stuck needle valve on your Mikuni, or just did some cleaning on them? With starting fluid , or even gas, it will fire up only for a second or two. The engine doesn't fully start. But yea, i don't think the engine is flooding. If anything..maybe the opposite..its thirsty?
9. The previous owner did a lot of the work on the car, so I only know some of the quirks from driving and fixing things on my own. I've had plenty of experience with fuel injected engines, but this is my first time with carburetors, so i feel someone lost. I have read that with sidedraft Webers, that pumping a few times before starting w/ No choke is the normal procedure to start. I tried with no luck. It could be because no fuel is squirting though. I will try to take carb cover off and remove the jets to clean/inspect. Ok, i will take the carb cover off and look at the floats to see if they have any holes. But if this is the case and they are sinking, wouldn't that be adding more fuel to the mixture, thus flooding the engine? Im somewhat confused.
10. It was stored in a garage in Los Angeles for what its worth. To be honest, I'm not sure if they have a choke and have been looking for signs of one.. The choke cable is not attached to anything that's for sure. I've read that most Weber DCOE don't have chokes, but a starter circuit? I believe i found it on the top part of the carb but I'm not sure. It looks like the following and I'm assuming if the lever is activated one way, it turns the choke on. IDK Guitar string huh? Ok, i look into that and cleaning methods.
11. As I mentioned in my original post, I used most of the gas up the last time I had it running, to avoid the fuel just sitting in the tank, so I don’t think that is the issue. I just put in some fresh gas into the tank.
12. Ok, that make me feel somewhat better to hear that you leave your car for a year too. Yes, i get a lot of gas pumping out, so the fuel pump is most likely ok. I’m getting around 3 – 3.5 psi up to the carbs. Ok, I will try to pull out the jet and emulsion tubes and clean them with carb cleaner. Thanks
13. Ok, will do. Is there a specific method to this? Do i just use a can of carb cleaner to clean them out? This won't affect any of the tuning (screw adjustments) made to the carb will it?
14. So there should be gas squirting out right? I actually checked the mesh filter leading into the carb (above the needle valve) and they looked fairly clean.
15. I took both lines off. So should it be squirting fuel when the accelerator is activated? I even shot a video just to be sure since it was kind of hard to see into the barrels.. Didn't see any fuel squirting unfortunately. Should I take the top cover of the carbs and mess around with the needle valve and ball check valve at the bottom of the bowl? I'm at a loss. Any help appreciated. Thanks
