You can check if the valves are leaking by laying the head flat with the valves up. Put the spark plugs in and filling the space around the valves with water and let them sit. If the level drops you got a leak
It was what made me decide to buy it... its in great shape
I did how ever take the entire dash, heater box, ac unit completely apart for rebuilding as well. New paint, new hoses, new foam for the vents, new ducking, also recovered the padded dash.
As for the rear I went with 3 1/2 inch blocks and some hi jacker shocks to allow adjustment when people get in the back seats or when I haul my tools around.
First fill up turned out to be not so great, I found out a lot of hoses had rotted out. I can't find a fuel cap anywhere (also leaking) but the hoses got replaced.
I hated the front massive bumper so it had to go. Also found a front GTI front chin spoiler.
I think she looks a lot better with out the bumper
This the the engine before the rebuild
The L18 in the goon fresh and new. Found a radiator on eBay but it had to be modified
Cut the strut towers and used the lock method. Also cut the springs.
Been here lurkin for years now, first time I post something. I picked up this 1975 610 wagon from the original owners about 2 years back. She's been a Cali car her whole life. Picked her up in Fresno and now she's in the central coast (831 Repin). When I picked it up the head had been off for a year or so, the cylinder bores where rusty and so was the head. So I ended up picking up an L18 engine off CL(someone who post here too, I forgot the username) anywho the engine had low compression on 2 and 3. I ended up rebuilding the engine.
