  1. Got the plugs. From Nissan , 10 pc package. Seems to of worked .engine sounds great .still have the question about the oblong hole in the back of the head, block, nismo gasket does not have one. What is that hole for? Was I supposed to drill it out? Thanks.
  2. Hey guys noticed the alignment dowls are missing. Company with the rebuild didn't put them back. I figure that's what's doing it. I'm still going with the oversized nismo gasket. Wondering if the dowls pins are available from anyone? Thanks
  3. Thanks thats a big help. What's up with the oblong hole NOT in the back of the Nismo head gasket? Do I need it there? Should I create one?
  4. Hello again gang, check this out, l20b 86mm 280z flat top piston ,w58 peanut head, hitting stock felpro gasket fire rings bad! Can't get the gasket even ,this is number 3 of gasket change. I've tried to line up the gasket before and after I put the head back on but the piston end up hitting bad. So my questions are , where to go from here? Will a Nismo 88.5 over sized gasket work for a 86 mm bore? Is there supposed to be more space between the top of the cylinder and the top of the block? Seems the gasket is flattened more than 1.2 mm by the piston hitting it. Does Nismo have a better size gasket? Does anyone? What am I doing wrong? I got 3000 miles out of the first gasket until it blew on number 3 cylinder. It's a fully rebuilt head and bottom end from a reputable California Datsun engine builder. Please help if anyone can . Thanks guys. 38/38 weber, when it runs it runs very good!
  5. Guys help me out here! Posting a problem that is a project? Correct forum? Ok I posted before about this Chinook 620, W58 head closed chamber (AKA peanut) pinging, was to be smogged in Cali. So ! Act 2. Bought a L20b Short Block. From a California Datsun company. (Which is to remain unnamed, wink wink). Same company that sold me a smog head ? W58 peanut. So the l20b shortblock arrived low and behold with the nonexistent FLAT TOP PISTONS! Marked in top of center 0.50? So if you are privy to my other post replies it makes less sense. So now the many Questions that require answers has tripled. 1.A high compression engine for a camper? 2. Smogged in Cali? 3. Special set up to run properly? a.special head gasket/head bolts? b.timming ? c. Pump gas? d.advice from others with same set up? Probably some other stuff I'm missing. Other issues that will arise? Compression ratio? w58 peanut with flat top Pistons for a l20b in a camper. Feel free to have fun with this one.hanks guys
  6. I bought a rebuilt w58 peanut head from a California company. Was to be direct fit replacement for a 1979 datsun 620 chinook camper l20b motor. W58 was the original head (smog legal) . The w58 I received was a peanut head. Yes a "rare bird" from what I understand. I am now experiencing detonation issues. Yes lots of "causes" I know. I'm running stock l20b dished Pistons. My question is how to cure this! No , more specifically, what was the original l20b w58 peanut head piston? Flat top? Seems that's the combo for most peanut heads. Although do they make a l20b flat top piston? Or did they? Am I ever going to pass smog with this head? Heeeeelp.
