  1. (hangs head in shame) I stand corrected and will go fix that now.
  2. Sorry for not being clear enough. It was for a 79 datsun 510 2 door (only car listed in my profile, it is there but shoulda put it here as well). I was in a bit of a pinch and made tbis post in a hurry. Will post info in the buying/selling add.
  3. So, first off....I learned that the 83 200sx water pump fit perfectly as well as the fan just bolted right on. Now I need a radiator, cheap and fast for the L20B. What are my options as to what other cars will fit? Any one on here have a stock one for sale?
  4. it is my daily driver. I can get the 200sx pump by monday, and a local guy has a bunch of Z cars he parts out. I will call him tomorrow to see if he has the fan. If not I guess I will see how good my redneck engineering is until I can get a new one.
  5. ok so buy it, and then ask the local guy with a bunch of z parts for a fan? sounds like an easy fix. Certain Zs I should be after or will all z cars fans of that era work?
  6. So, the water pump on my 79 510 2 door with the L20b is leaking. Local auto parts store doesn't have it. they do have one for an 83 200sx with the 2.2. The pics look alike, but I figured i would ask the experts (you guys). If I am not mistaken, the 2.2 is just a stroked L20B right?
  7. Looking for a SU carb set up. I have heard tale that the coolant holes could either be plugged or cross drilled to match. I will try to get a hold of an intake gasket and see how close it is. I live in Albuquerque, I thought that since I am close and might get it cheap if was worth looking into.
  8. Looking at getting this. A local fella has it. He said it is from a 68-69 roadster. he isnt sure if it was a 1600 or 2000. Figure I would leave these pics here and hope someone here knew.
  9. I am thinking about getting a cam for my L20B. I want to know the largest cam I can get without having to change the springs and retainers. I do plan on doing an engine swap sometime in the future, but for now I want to play with the 4 banger for a while. The engine is completely stock and mated to a 4 speed manny. I plan to get a holley 350 2bbl. as well, I have heard good things about them on this engine. I am not worried about driveability, I just want to play with it for a while.
  10. Dude, someone actually did it. Now brace yourself for the storm of questions and remember you offered. Can you send me a write up from your swap? How much did it cost you? How difficult was it, certain things to watch out for? How much did you have to shorten the drive shaft? Where did you put the engine mounts? Did you have to change the steering? I know the 3.8 pretty well, but this will be my first engine swap that isn't straight forward. Can you send me pics?
  11. If i keep the l20b, then i am going to hunt down a dogleg 5 speed. But i am not the kind of guy who starts a project and doesnt finish it, it would bug me to much. I'm more likely to go without food to get car parts. The only 2 things i have never finished was reading House of the Seven Gables and Moby Dick. Now those were boring.
  12. If i was going v8, I would get my friends gen 1 383. His dad built it for a 68 impala, made 600hp at the wheels. He recently pulled it out of his truck to put in a 400. the 383 still runs and I could get it for about $500. But......that is WAY too much weight and power for such a little car. I don't want to hurt the nimble handling too much.
  13. I grew up with GMs, and I have rebuilt the 3.8L. I am going to something I know. It would cost about 2k to even rebuild the L20B anyways before i put a good cam and carbs on it. I want more torque, hence the v6 swap, and Ford's v6's are not known for torque or reliability. I have no brand loyalty, I am just going with what would be ridiculous amount of fun and what I know.
  14. Yeah well craming a v8 would be too much for the car. I also plan to paint it that fighter style at the top of the page, and belch the exaust just behind the front tire about 4" above the bottom of the car. Just cuta holeal and heat shield it. Two reasons, 1. Awesome paint job, 2. The side pipes are easier to fab. I dont have to worry about any crosspipes, not fitting around the trans, and i can keep it tucked up above the body line. It is a good thing i know a welder. Now, I just need to save up about 4k to do it. Thanks for the info.
  15. Yeah, I probably will go efi. I dont feel like engeneering the aluminum intake to take a carb. I have a friend that has an extra msd, i will ask about buying it from him. I am thinking either 3.1 because it is smaller i can buy a new long block for the same price as an l20b, or the series 2 3.8. Remanufactured.com has a sc 3.8 in its garage sale section for $800. But i know i could get either for cheaper at a yard. I am surprised i didnt get any flack for thinking about cutting up a 510.
