  1. Hello everyone, Hit another snag.. the clutch is slipping in 3rd gear. It high revs past about 1/4 throttle. wondering if this is the clutch or slave cylinder. I flushed the Transmission fluid and refilled to proper level. I bled the system and tried adjusting the slave cylinder. The adjuster rod on the slave is lose/ disconnected from the slave cylinder. So i guess my question is.. Is the slave cylinder adjusting rod connected internally/ threaded into the slave cylinder? I went to adjust it and everything is really lose and the rod i can move back and forth and side to side a good 1/4". I have a clutch kit coming tomorrow just in case its that, but my dad said it wasn't driven hard and it only has 56k miles on the truck which seems low to me for a bad clutch. I have done a clutch replacement before, but i just don't want to break into this thing and realize it still has life on it. As always thank you!

    521 Carb Problems

I just relined the tank so Im assuming i just got a bad batch of gas. It is an older local station and i might have got gas after they churned up the crud from the bottom of there tanks. Not sure, but its got good fuel now. Thanks again for the advice.
  3. Hello everyone, I wanted to share this dashboard renewal i did. I already had bondo so that part was free. I used 3M 90 high strength contact adhesive and about 7 dollars of a synthetic fake leather material from local craft store. Total cost me under $25. I grooved out the cracks in the dash and applied a couple layers of bondo, then palm sanded it to shape and upholstered it. 521 Carb Problems

Wow!! thank you sooo much! I pumped a half gallon out of the line and into a jug. It looked really clear and didn't smell as strong as gas should. Fixed the problem! What would cause this just in case it happens again? Bad gas?

    521 Carb Problems

I don't have a helper, but i did pump the linkage by hand at the carb and I am getting a good jet of fuel into carb. It needs plugs and wires so ill get those and throw those on also.

    521 Carb Problems

Hello Ratsun, hit a wall and i know its something easy to fix. Here's my problem.. truck will only run off alternative fuel when i dump gas down carb. It is getting plenty of fuel delivery to the carb. I can take the fuel inlet off and it squirts lots of fuel. I put a brand new weber dgv on and got the same results as with the stock hitachi. Pulling out my hair because i know the problem is simple and i just dumped ~$3 bones on a carb i didn't need. O well i have a spare now. I have adjusted valve lash to correct gaping. Going to check timing tonight. Anything i should look for? Im thinking vacuum maybe? Thanks, v521v
  7. Hello everyone, Again thank you all for your wealth of knowledge and experience. I purchased a banjo bolt from Doctor510. :) Anyone know where to get a good dash board? Also a steering wheel or steering wheel wrap that holds up good. Will post more photos soon! v521v
  8. Hello everyone, so i hit my first snag... this fuel to carb filter inlet thing is broken. Do you think i can just clean it really well then torch and silver solder and braze it together. https://www.flickr.com/gp/138045747@N08/93380f The truck is cleaning up super nice! I flushed the fluids and put a little gas down the carbs and it fired right up!! The mileage is... ... ... 56k original! I've decided to keep all original colors and panels excluding the kick panels that are damaged on the bottom. Found the hood emblem in the glove box. v521v
  9. Hello everyone, So i have a couple questions.. should i clean the light rust and prime and paint or leave it all factory green. I don't want to take value away from the original truck. I haven't done a restore so i want to do it right. Also does anyone know where to get interior panels and the dash pad? I could probably cut the door panels out of masonite on a bandsaw and upholster it if no one sells them. Thank you for your knowledge and advise. v521v
  10. Hello everyone, Here are some of the photos... towed this guy home last night. More photos coming as i progress. Hopefully this will direct you to the flickr album. How do i post my nicer pictures to this forum? v521v https://www.flickr.com/gp/138045747@N08/Fk9at2
  11. Hello Ratsun, I just inherited my grandfathers 1971 Datsun 521 truck! The truck was originally purchased by my great grandfather in 71'. I am eager to clean this gem up and will be posting pictures asap. Theres potential in this truck and i will be coming back here for lots of questions and information. The truck has sat for almost 10 years. I am pretty familiar with Toyota i4 engines so i am glad this truck has a carburetor and not a sea of vacuum lines on the intake. I'm confident this will be a fun and easy restore. Pictures coming soon! But first everyone needs to guess how many original miles are on this truck. :) v521v
