  1. I wasn't aware how much "surgery" this truck went through before I bought it. Thankfully through good friends I have and kind people on here, I learned a LOT about it. I don't post often because I try not to annoy anyone and yet there's always one complete arrogant ass who thinks he knows it all and wants to shut you down. Hint hint. Either way, I'm confident my truck will be in order again one day, whether I have your approval or not. Thanks for sharing in my excitement and providing such knowledgeable insight on my situation. Couldn't have done it without you.
  2. Thanks man, and yeah it's been a wonderful truck. I've driven the hell out of it over the last year. I just want it back to a stage where I can drive the hell out of it again. Thanks for the encouragement! Good luck with yours as well. I'm sure like most things I set out to do in my life, it will happen. Just a little later than I had plan for haha.
  3. Will do. Gotta find a st bed 720 first. I've been looking. But all I'm finding are D21s that are just too long. The truck still runs and drives, it's just falling apart in all the wrong ways, and I can't stand to let her go. This truck is like my whole world haha
  4. Frame had been chopped and welded so many times it's not worth it to keep building on the frame that's there. Why not try to swap it?
  5. Wow Brian, don't be an ass hole. I can fix it now. I was starting that a body swap would take care of most of what I wanted to do and would be faster. It's on ball joints because we did swap it out. I want asking for your two cents, I was giving an update. And it's been leaking oil since I got her. Rear main seal and oil pan plus a few other little spots. I'm not running pcv so it squeezes oil out sometimes. It was never my intention to stick with the L series so I just ran it. Carb I have is fine, just needs to be worked on. I just don't want to dump a ton of time into the L series if it's going to go away. I don't think you rad my post at all, you just wanted to be a jack ass. Lol
  6. Ok, so I haven't posted in ages. I'm still a king lurker however. I've got a few things done on the pickup and she's been lovely. I've collected enough datsun parts to open a small museum (hehe) and learned a lot from you guys. Here's the current update on the truck. It's on ball joints, it's not leaking any brake fluid any longer. Sill dropping oil like no tomorrow however. I've painted it black and figured out where most of my parts came from to make things easier to sort out. However it needs a bit of carb work right now and some control arm bushings so it's not driven currently. I still fire it up all the time. I'm strongly considering a body swap. There's so many little things I want to do to this truck and I feel like putting it on a 720 frame would be really nice and take care of 90% of the work I want to do. I just want to be able to daily drive it again. I would not trust it on a 2 hour drive in it's current state, that's for damn sure. Well sorry for the random bits of info, just thought I'd give an update to anyone who cares to hear it.
  7. Thank you everyone, getting ready to tear the valve cover off now. I'm going to my plugs and my gasket today, hopefully that wicked misfire goes away. I'll take nite pictures if the ignition system and stuff when I get down to it. I'm going to ask really stupid questions like what gap spark plug do you recommend for "insert ignition system here." Thanks again everyone..
  8. Anyone else ever get oil in all the spark plugs and wires? Someone tried to tell me it could be a valve cover gasket? Which was confusing. Anyhow. I'm just curious if anyone else has experienced this and how they remedied it on an L series. I changed my plug wires today And that's when I realized it. I forgot to take pictures at the time but I did take pictures of the plug wires a while ago, you can still see some oil. It was in all 4 plugs the two inside worse than the two outside. This is an L18 engine in my 521 if that matters.
  9. Thank you for all of this. I'll do whatever I can. I don't want to be totally screwed here at all. I'm confident I will get the issue fixed eventually, as for my clutch, adjusting seemed to do the trick. Now I will try to find somebody to help me do valves and timing, I'll get the distributor and wires checked out, change every fluid I can and do whatever possible to keep it happy. This truck means a shit load to me. Thanks guys.
  10. I would really love to take your advice here but I just moved. And this is My only car. I can't get to work without my clutch. It's my number 1 priority right now. Im not a rich person, by any means so it's hard for me to go out and bit all this crap when I hardly scrape by anyway haha. It's on an old weber carb, it idles beautifully, and ignition system beats me. I don't even know how you would tell a one ignition system from the other. And I've replaced a hundred clutches in friends cars over my life, but I've never messed with valves or timing
  11. Ok I will check that, however my clutch had been getting worse and worse. Felt like an old worn out clutch. Free play, yes, but all the way to the floor the clutch hardly engages now. I'll get the valves done as soon as I can. And as usual, everyone has different information. So I'm trying to take all of it and find a happy medium with what I find through my own research. So I do apologize if I sound like a COMPLETE clueless jack ass I'm truly trying to figure this all out.
  12. Replaced filter, and lines. Distributor needs to be changed it's crusty. And it's definitely got bad timing because of the run on. It needs a bit of work I'm aware, and I've tried top rev slowly through the gears as possible but nothing helps. At 50, if you give it more gas slowly until you're to the floor, the rpms never change. I did notice after replacing filter and lines that it ran much more smoothly, however, no increase in top speed. Sorry you misunderstood. But when timing got mentioned, it hit me. It definitely needs timing done and the valves haven't been adjusted for a long time I'm sure. I understand a lot of people will say don't fix what isn't broken, but the PO not having much history on the car, I'm just trying to cover all bases. I also can't really check much else until I get my clutch replaced now.... Total bummer.
  13. Ok I feel totally stupid, it's my distributor and it definitely needs timing done. It did the diesel sputter when you turn it off like timing I'd jacked. Stupid on my part. My apologies. And as for the power wire I'm going to test it when the weather clears up. And to top it all off I blew up my clutch on a hill start leaving work today.... Fun times haha how much would it cost me to take her in and have the valves done and get it timed? I have a little knowledge and I know my way around a wrench but this intimidates me.
  14. So do you guys think bypass it and see, or leave it alone. I mean I feel like I'm having some sort of fuel restriction, possibly secondaries acting up. In 4th gear it won't budge over a few thousand rpm and its maxed out at about 50mph. But it has another gear and it's BARELY half way through 4th. 1st though 3rd, all the get up you could ask out of an old pickup but as soon as I hit 4th it has no more desire to move me down the road. I know they aren't race cars, but I know it has more than that. So im not sure if it's from that secondary filter holding me back, or if it's another underlying issue.
  15. I think they did it thinking they needed more fuel. Because the pump that came with it is perfect. It definitely is bit clicking our doing anything. So my poor stock pump is sucking gas through another pump that's doing nothing..... Fml lol my poor pickup. Thank you guys. I can't tell you what a blessing it is too have people who know what they are talking about at the touch of a button.
