  1. Thanks guys for all the good advice, the water pump install went perfect, not one set back.As for the condition of the cooling system it is in perfect condition,it was all replaced when the motor was rebuilt about 20K miles ago.Looks like when they replaced the water pump at the motor rebuild, they used RTV or some kind of red gasket sealer, this actually deteriorated the gasket and started leaking.I replaced it withe a new Napa water pump and gasket and NO gasket sealer and used Napa 50/50 coolant ,test drove and all is good. Thanks again for all your help and advice it made the job so much easier.
  2. Thanks guys, appreciate all your help, does not sound to tough at all, just a little time consuming
  3. i will be replacing my water pump on my 85 720,what is the difficulty level ? and is there anything i need to know to simplify the job, don't want no big surprises. Thanks
  4. Had my windshield replaced by SafeLite auto glass in my 85,720,tax and installed at my home $255,new windshield and rubber gasket were a perfect fit,and a bonus, windshield is tinted a nice blue at the top, like looking out the windshield of a brand new truck, two thumbs up
  5. Looks like the speedo cable was only hanging on by a few threads at the transmission, cable probably came out of its slot.I went ahead and took it apart anyway to inspect the cable itself ,cable looked fine no defects, now i had a chance to pull out the instrument cluster and replace some light bulbs,by the way the speedo cable just clips on the back no screw on type just push a tab to unlock and pull it out ,put it all back together and it works fine, good as new, couldn't have done it without your help Mike, thank you.
  6. Thank you so much, will let you know how it turns out.i will be doing this tomorrow
  7. Thanks Mike, will definitely give it a try, sounds simple enough ,Also if i had to remove the cable completely from the truck ,by removing it from the tranny first would this give me enough slack to pull out the instrument cluster and remove the cable from the back? does this make sense? i need to pull out the instrument cluster any way to replace some light bulbs
  8. I had the same problem, this is what i did.I bought a set of Irving bolt removers from Amazon, they are used for removing rounder off bolts.Put the truck up on jack stands so i could have some room under the truck,i have a 24 inch breaker bar, with the irving socket and breaker bar i used my floor jack on the end of the breaker bar, with the pressure of the floor jack it broke loose.i actually saw this on you tube where a guy could not remove his oil drain plug because it was rounded and way to tight
  9. Thanks, i was looking for some one who may have purchased one,so i could get the correct cable,Amazon shows two cables that fit the 720 but the reviews say they do not fit, that the end that goes to the spedo is different than the stock cable.Heres what happened,i was driving down the freeway,65 mph, when i heard a clicking sound from the dash, the spedo was fine until i started to slow down then the needle started to bounce, the slower i went the more it bounced,go back to 65 no more bounce but clicking does not go away at any speed, also odometer was in the middle of changing over to 200000 miles when it stopped working,so no more odometer. So do you think it could be the cable or something in the spedo itself ? By the way,the dealer wants $116 for the cable,Nissan parts on line wants $70 for the cable.these are OEM cables, was looking for aftermarket cable with brand and part number
  10. 85, 720,Z motor 2 whl. drive standard cab, manual trans.looking for Speedometer cable.does anyone have the correct part number and place i can purchase this spedo cable?I appreciate your help
  11. Had minor set back, looks like i left the lights on  ,had to charge dead battery .OK all is good, had spark from both coil wires to distributor cap, both coils seem to be fireing, went one step further, pulled the plug wire off #1 intake, insert a spark plug, ground it to valve cover, start it up,plug fires very nice, did the same thing to #1 exhaust, again plug fireing very nice.Final timeing 13deg.BTDC @850RPM.Truck idles very smooth and no more bog from the little Weber .Took it for a drive up in the hills ,ran great, could not get it to ping even when luging it .Mike thank you very much for your time and input ,i really do appreciate it
  12. Mike, before i tackel the spark check i want to make sure i understand you correctly ,do i put the plug directly in the coil wire,or am i missing something? back in the old days we would just pull off a plug wire put in a plug, ground it, start it,check for spark
  13. I will give this a try,i have a new digital timing lite with RPM reading,i disconnect the vacume advance hose and pluged it,there is a sticker under the hood showing me the correct timing mark 3 deg. BTC @ 800 RPM,i set the timing at this mark and 800 RPM, idles very rough ,if i hold the RPM at 2000 it misses,So thats when i messed with the timing,i kept advancing it and it started to smooth out,at 13 deg. idles smooth and at 2000 RPM no more missing.I will defiantly check the coils using your method, sounds simple enough .Will let you know what i find. Thanks Mike
  14. Mike, the reason i asked,a couple weeks ago i gave my 720 a complete tune up,NEW everything , valve adj. ,timing, i thought maby i crossed the coil wires,i set the timing per specs 3 deg, BTC.Just came back in from working on truck, evidently it does not like 3 deg. so i kept advancing it till it smoothed out ,final setting is 13 deg.Now idles very nice, took it for a test drive runs great and no more bog off idle .Mike thank you very much for the quick response ,you answered my question .Have a great weekend
