  1. Added an avatar pic to eliminate confusion, sorry about all that. Will give what hainz said a try. Thanks everyone.
  2. Lockleaf, only the 2 outer high beams work, no low beams. The inner lights are on a switch mounted under the dash and work, dont know if its high or low beams but they appear to be wired as an independant system with their own switch.
  3. Thanks for the lighting explanation, it now makes sense. To be clear, I never said anything about LED's or HID'S or STD's. PO did rewire the inner headlights to a seperate switch under the dash as stated in the first post. All I need to do is figure out why i have no low beams. Looks like the PO might have screwed things up by adding the switch to the inner lights. Thanks again everyone, will try and educate myself with a wiring schematic i downloaded.
  4. So working backwards from the headlights to the fuses with no power, could it be assumed that either my turn signal stalk or headlihgt swtich be bad?
  5. There was no LED conversion done, dont know where you got that. PO installed regular headlights with a yellow tint. Just trying to fix whats broken. Thanks for your help, i think....
  6. Ok. With the car off, the 20a horn, 20a park tail and 20a common all have 12.8 volts. The 2 10a headlight fuses have 0 volts. There is no voltage at the red and red and blue wires at both headlight plugs.
  7. Thanks everyone. Both black wires from HL relay are still connected and screwed onto the voltage regulator flange. Looks good. Checked high beams and they worked! Turn lever stalk pushed to the front. No low beams. All parking lights work. If low and high beams are from the same headlight, why did Datsun put another set of lights where my cool yellow ones are?
  8. Just got done checking things that I think I know how to. No power to the headlights with the headlight switch pulled out. 0 volts to the headlights and fuses with car running and switch on. Alt is putting out 14.2 volts. Leading me to believe its under the dash or maybe the headlight relay. Getting dark, will try again tomorrow
  9. 1971 510 wagon, L16 with auto trans. All electrical was working fine before. Going to store a few nights ago, headlights on, no issues. While driving, I honked my horn and the headlights turned off. Kinda scary but thankfully the previous owner installed cool yellow headlights mounted inside the regular lights with a seperate switch and was able to safely get back home. Checked fuses and headlights with a tester, all good. Anybody have this problem before? Looked at at wiring schematic but I might as well be reading a foreign language. Hoping for somone to say, "oh yeah, that happened to me and it was a quick easy fix. All I did was xxxxx" Thanks for any help and suggestions.
  10. Ok. Im a dumbass. In my excitement of getting centercaps, i measured wrong. Morale of the story, measure twice and order once. All is well in the universe again.
  11. This seems like a dumb question but I gotta ask. I have an old pair of wats that I am putting on my 71 wagon. I measured the center hole on the rim and it was 63mm, perfect because Wat center caps come in that size. Ordered a set and they aren't even close to fitting, way to loose. They do say 63 on them so I know the order wasn't screwed up. What did I do wrong here? Thanks for any help. Hopefully can order another set as soon as I figure this out.
  12. All right. Thanks to everyone for the input. I eliminated the weber fuel pressure regulator (I put it on because a mechanical pump was putting out 7 psi) and replaced the only fuel line that I haven't replaced yet, the one from the metal line up to the filter. Fuel in the fuel filter seems to be at a higher level. I have a used nissan filter, a new fuel filter and my toolbox in the back in case something goes wrong but I think we got it. Thanks again to everyone.
  13. Happy Thanksgiving everyone. There's a calm before the deep frying storm so I figured I would tear into this fuel issue. To my pleasant surprise and confusion, the fuel pump was not broken.appy Thanksgiving everyone. There's a calm before the deep frying storm so I figured I would tear into this fuel issue. To my pleasant surprise and confusion, the fuel pump was not broken. Heres a pic of my broken amazon pump. You can see where the castings holding the steel dowel broke. image upload Disconnected the fuel line to the carb and manually operated the pump. Gas spurted out but seemed weak. Increased the fuel pressure on the regulator and got it to shoot out harder. I have come to the conclusion that these fuel pumps are all a little different. Comparing the arm lenght and angle on two different pumps and they are not the same, hence the broken arms. Like I said in a earlier post, the pump actually had play in it when installed but I think the stroke ws not enough to overcome the pressure regulator and kept running out of gas. While broken down on the side of the road, I could see that the fuel in the fuel filter was barely touching the element and qas wicking up gas into the carb. Here's an overall pic post a picture Charging up my battery. Will give it another go. Time for some deep fryin.
