  1. This article is about " Nissans Take Over Sodegaura" There are pics in this article for everyone, from a 62 Prince Skyline to new Z's. Man that would be fun to take one's Datsun to an event like this. http://www.speedhunters.com/2015/10/nissans-take-over-sodegaura/
  2. I'm one of the Roadster guys. That doesn't make me feel any different towards Z', 510's etc... All superb, all getting their day in the sun since the world has caught onto what we already knew. Article: The Datsun 240Z: One of the Greatest Sports Cars Ever Made http://www.cheatsheet.com/automobiles/the-datsun-240z-one-of-the-greatest-sports-cars-ever-made.html/?a=viewall#ixzz3oJOFTCOi
  3. Here is a zoom on the newly discovered rot I found after pulling the fender. time for chop / chop / weld / weld....
  4. On the 70 (the white one) cut -n- weld is down to the fenders and whatever I find under them. Here's a pic after I pulled the first fender. You can see the rot at the bottom of the post (was hidden under the fender). So all the gets cut out and rewelded with new steel. The fender is rotten at the bottom (the usual spot) and it has a small dent I'll pop out under the headlight. On the 66 (the red one), I need to order a set of valve shims (the flat ones) and exhaust valves. Then the head is completey restored and like new. And of course, today it is raining....
  5. I'ld LOVE to move the alternator (I hate it sitting under the manifold). Can you post a pic or 2 and perhaps which GM alternator (and any wiring tweeks if needed)?
  6. 1969 2000 SRL311 07001 to SRL311 13000 I've heard of molassass for fuel tank cleaning (never tried it, doesn't sound like something I'ld trust). You should have the fuel guage sending unit on the top of the tank (access plate in trunk). I would pull the tank out. I'ld also use water and sand in the tank and slosh it around a lot. Slosh that crap around for an hour. Dump. If it is fugly, repeat. Flush the hell out of it to get the sand out. Dry the hell out of it. I've used sand / water mix on old motorcycle tanks. Just make sure all that sand its out. I also put 3 cheap fuel filters inline between the tank & fuel pump when firing up a car thats been sitting. Let those cheap fuel filter save the pump, float chamber needle valve etc.., gets all the scale and crap. Well worth 3 time 2 bucks. I bet some other folks have great solutions. Thats just how I've done it.
  7. Use this link to verify: http://www.datsunroadster.com/INFO_PAGES/what_year.htm Rallye is great for parts too. Dann is a wealth of knowledge. It is pre 1970 if you look at the front turn signals (they have the metal ring), and high windsheild. So it is 1968 to 1969 right there. The dash looks superb, the drivetrain looks complete from the pics (just dust -n- dirt). Body looks great. Congrats!
  8. After soaking it, a wire wheel on a drill makes the bondo fly off and leaves your metal unscathed as well. Glad it will help :)
  9. As I am doing body work, part of this is removing any bondo that folks have slapped on over the decades. I am using an old trick to do this and thought I'ld share. Perhaps everyone knows this one, but if it helps even one person then it's worth sharing. Instead of drilling, chopping, hammering, chistling and try to force the bondo off the car do this. Get Aircraft Paint Stripper. Soak and old rag in it. Put that over the bondo and cover with plastic like a plastic grocery bag. Tape it in place. Repeat a few times as you work on other stuff. The aircraft paint stripper soaks into the bondo and makes it rubbery so you can just peel it off, or use a screw driver on it (it falls off pretty easy). This way you are not smacking up the metal around and under the bondo or spending a ton of time fighting it. Cheers.
  10. I have plenty more to weld so I'll give it spots next one (other side). Didn't seem to warp, but I was concerned about burn throughs. Of course it may have warped some and I didn't notice, and wound up with more post weld work than I should have. Hammer & grind time was a bit high. I made the sissy bar for my Harley with the 120 wire feed, but that's all thicker stock.
  11. Yes, using fux core & wire feed. Unfortunate the place I'm renting doesn't have 220/240 so I'm stuck with a 120 wire feed. As long as I go low amps, medium feed I can pull a bead with flux core. Once I can buy a place I can get better gear.
  12. Last weekend got this done This weekend I got this done. I can now do the other side next weekend. Also, was unbolting fenders so they can be done next (cut out rot, kill any bondo, weld in new steel).
  13. You can see the previous owner had welded in chickenwire with the intent of bondo'ing. So that is going. That shaping is not done yet.
  14. Perhaps that was a while ago. He had some roadsters under rebuild (for customers) last time I was in. As for the newman cars... well they're not quite street cars ....
  15. "on a low humidity day" Thats the tough part this weekend! It is humid as hell
