  1. I spent a while messing with my friend's 520... We traced it down to the ballast resistor by the coil.... Try swapping that out and see if it works better...
  2. I am going to be yanking my motor in the next few weeks(also a '74) You are welcome to any of the emissions parts you need.... Are you in a big rush? Is this all that's holding you up?
  3. As he said... Aftermarket parts(like a coil over kit) need government approval to be legal. Unless he can find an Aus. made kit, he would be SOL... I guess you must be able to swap factory parts without issue? Check the frame dimensions. Maybe you could do a front frame clip from the Toyota. Then you wouldn't have to worry about as much as far as cab mounting, bed mounting, etc.
  4. Someone sells a coil over kit for the front that replaces the shock towers and allows you to remove the bars... Might be easier.... Unless there are other benefits....
  5. So... I work in a machine shop, and am surrounded by engines all day... But we are fresh out of Datsun motors. (We are next dfoor to a Pick 'n' Pull, so that could easily be remedied.) But I do have quite a colection of other brand motors I could stuff in the old 620.... I have the 2.3turbo and 5 speed from a SVO mustang I was going to put in a 73 Pinto that I think might look good in there. If I want to get really stupid, I have a VW R32 Vr6 motor I could try to shoehorn in..... Don't think the 455 would work though.. ;) I want to see some non standard engine swaps.... I am inspired by yochase's VG33 swap..
  6. Wish I was a little closer.... I could get that motor done for you.... We are kind of slow at my shop right now.. :)
  7. They also had a 3.0 v6... I am sure that is what he is using... :)
  8. Scoop?? In the first few pictures you see a little air dam to direct air over the roof rack.... In the last few pictures, he has the hood sitting on the rack....
  9. Even though the search function failed me... My Google-fu lead me to this old post here where someone did it... http://community.ratsun.net/topic/24404-bills-725-kc-short-bed-build/
  10. Haven't done this swap yet, but some cars need to see a pulse from a cam position sensor or the distributor to allow the pump to run...
  11. Also here on CL.... http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/cto/5148638013.html
  12. Sounded to me like not having the parts ready WAS him not holding up his end................. As a machinist myself.... For something like having big valves and seats installed in a head, you should plan on that head sitting at the shop for 5-6 months, and then be pleasently surprised when it is done sooner..... You would be surprised how many projects we have at the shop from people who are in a hurry.... We work on them in the order they come in.... People seem to think that custom work is easy and takes no time at all.... I have no idea why this guy is late, but if he is as good a builder as you say, he probably has quite a waiting list.... Honestly, if you just recently started building the motor, you should have been planning for next year... :)
  13. '74 620 $1300.... http://sfbay.craigslist.org/pen/cto/5096218643.html
  14. I was just looking at that last night... Not enough useable parts for me.... But... There is also a 74 for $1300 I am thinking about...
