  1. Draker, Thanks! I’m excited to finally get working on it. From what I’ve found the A87 head came on the L18, so maybe that’s why. But yeah it has dual valve springs so I’m thinking it was somewhat of a hop up. It does look to have a stock camshaft though. And as for the potentially taller front suspension I did get a set of 280zx struts and a weld on coilover kit from T3 anyways. Iceman, good call. I need to figure out what head gasket and dished pistons to use and what I’ve got going on in the bottom end so I can calculate the compression ratio. Also weirdly enough the pad on the drivers side of the engine where identification #s should be is blank too. Almost looks ground down. Crash, I need to find more about it. I don’t know how you'd mount a knock sensor to it. But it sounds like a good path. I need to make sure the dizzy will fit a Z block too. And Stoffregen, yeah I was excited to snag a BRE. The carbs are all complete at least, aside from the single trumpet, but I want to get air boxes for it anyways. It’s going to be a learning experience as I haven’t really had to work on any carbs before, my B210s hitachi was rock solid the whole time i owned it. Thanks all! Anyone in the area that knows of trusty machine shops or carburetor shops, please send your recommendations!
  2. Hello all! Ever since I helped a guy push his KA swapped dime off the road in the mid to late 2000s, I've wanted a 510 so, so badly. Finally, in May 2021 I found one that wasn't way out of my price range. It didn't run, but it looked pretty solid. My best friend and I hauled ass from Phoenix up to Oregon and grabbed it, a 1971 4 door sedan, out of another Ratsun member's backyard and then towed it back to Phoenix in 2 days total. I had too many other cars at the time to even bring it to my house, and was working on a retired Snap On van for my mother, so it sat in storage for a year. Then in summer last year, the wife and I decided to move to Washington. So, I sold my blue B210, my '85 XJ6, and gave my project Pulsar NX to AZHitman, and hauled the 510 up to Snohomish, Washington. The convoy: Here it is in it's new home: The car has a dogleg 5 speed, and PO stated it had an L18. However, it looks to be a mystery LZ22 build with a L18 head. The pad that normally has engine info between cylinders 3 & 4 is strangely blank, but further down there's a casting # that says 06W that seems to correspond with a Z22 crankshaft, and the cylinder bore seems to match what I've found for the Z22 engine online. I've been beginning to go through the wiring, and it does get power to some components but it won't turn over via the ignition switch. I was able to jumper to the starter and test cold compression, which resulted in about 195 PSI in cylinders 1-3, but a fat zero PSI in #4. I thought it may be a valve issue, but after pulling the head there's a big hole in #4. I'm currently looking around for an automotive machine shop, hopefully one that's experienced with Datsuns so they can help identify what crankshaft and wrist pin heights the engine has, and find parts. The head is an A87 with open combustion chambers, which isn't ideal for my intentions from what I'm seeing. I wanted to build an engine that's got solid power in the mid to high revs, nothing super peaky, but I don't want it to run out of breath by 4500 RPMs either. I'm trying to figure out what camshaft profile, and pistons to use for appropriate compression without grenading the engine with detonation. Searching the forum, I'm finding people advising piston combinations and build recipes for a closed chamber head, which I don't have, and although I'm looking, seems to be unobtanium nowadays. Speaking with Specialty Engineering in Canada, I was advised that if I keep the engine temps lower with a large radiator, run 93 octane, and get a 123ignitionusa.com distributor with a knock sensor to protect the engine, that the open chamber head would be workable. I'm hoping some of you experienced Ratsun-goers can lend me your wisdom and advice, please. Some goodies I got for it: Mikuni 44s RAYS XRAY 14" Thanks for reading!

    B210 Rollcall

Finally got my 280ZX struts on, and I no longer have mismatching wheels! Hooray! I used T3 coilovers with 175 lb springs, and had a fellow weld on the rings that support the weight of the car

  6. Dang, thats a bummer to hear. I have an L20B and 510 crossmember waiting to go in my B210 hahah, looks like I'm heading down the same road. Good luck to you, hope you can figure something out!

    B210 Rollcall

Wow!! This picture is incredible. I've always wanted to see a B210 rally car. I'll have to look for vids of this beast

    B210 L20B swap

I got another A14 and 4 speed locally and swapped them in. Got the B running OK, but still hungry for more power. I'm about ready to start working on this L20B. I think I may take it to my mechanic or machinist for inspection though. The whole cylinder head is pretty dirty on top, and the water pump cavity was gnarly. Here's pictures. So it definitely needs a good cleaning. Originally I wanted to just put the timing chain back on and reset the timing, but after seeing how dirty it is, I'm thinking of installing a new head gasket, and having the block and pistons looked at before I just toss it in. What do you experienced Datsunists think?
  9. Chromodoro right? Cool name too.
  10. The new wheels fit the old school look a little better, imo. Looks good!

Thanks buddy! Everything is yellow when I drive at night. It's nifty
  12. Those are super cool, they remind me of old Italian wheels!

    B210 L20B swap

Got a little progress done, as my B210 has been sitting for a few weeks now and it had been bumming me out! No compression in cylinder 2 on the A14. I have decided it's probably a valve seat that fell out of its spot and won't let the valve close. So, I decided to pull the L20B and 5 speed from the 200SX, and bought a Weber 38 "Outlaw" (haha) for it. I also managed to pick up a 510 crossmember from Doc510, which I could not believe. I figured I'd have to modify the stock one. Got the engine out, yay, and then I found a guy locally selling an A14 and 4 speed that was in a very old Chevy pickup, swapping it for a 350. For $100. I figured it was meant to be, and that I probably couldn't get my head in and out of the machine shop for cheaper than that anyways. My plan now is to run this 2nd A14 until I am ready to get the L20B in. I want to get larger valves and a performance cam grind for it anyways, and I figure it may be worth it to have the block rebuilt as well as the head. Any off the shelf camshafts available, or is a regrind necessary? I read on here that Delta Cams is a good source. Also, I took the steering wheel off of the 200SX, but in the process needlessly removed the horn button ring and something shot out from behind it and vanished off the face of the Earth. I tried to Google and find the components of the steering wheel to see what shot out and I was missing, There was one very long narrow spring that went into the wheel that was still there, but in some pictures and diagrams I saw a shorter and much wider spring that fits under the horn ring, that would fit over the steering shaft threads. Can anyone confirm that this wider spring is probably what shot out?
  15. Well, its been a crazy week. My assistant manager at work walked out on shift and it's been hell. I finally just rotated the engine to valves closed on #2 and they did wiggle, one only a little, one nearly an 1/8" I'm off to buy some feeler gauges to set the proper clearance!
