Some of you may remember last year I went to go buy this truck, and it has been passed around a couple times since. Lots of rust, many issues, did not run.
A few weeks ago I met the new owner at Cars and Coffee and have been helping him get it running better. Just finished a distributor rebuild, and I straightened out a new warped intake manifold he installed that had a couple open vacuum ports.
At this point its actually drivable, and it holds an idle, despite having a Redline Weber conversion (worst of all the Webers). He's now contemplating an LS swap... and a hood scoop. Hopefully I can get it tuned soon so he no longer wants to cut it up.
Anyone who wants to stop by and say "hi!" or lend a helping hand, we'll be racing at Bonneville from August 12th-18th, unless we set a record, break, or get tired of trying and leave early.
If you're not familiar with the venue at the salt flats, the pits are located about 6-7 miles from the start lines, off to the left of the long and short courses. We'll be racing the short course, off to the far right as you're driving in, unless we break 150 mph. Yeah, right!
Hotel rooms are almost all booked at the Wendover casinos, but there are a couple rooms left. Come Tuesday rooms are cheap and plentiful, but all the excitement is Saturday and Sunday on the long course.
Does anyone stock an adjustable cam gear that fits an L20b in the US???
I need one that actually adjusts. I just tried installing one with 8 holes last evening. I can't get to the setting I need. The funny thing is that I get the same 106 degrees at settings 1,2,3, and 4 gives me 114. A,B, C, D are all obviously way off, and I can't skip a chain tooth to get there either. This is checked reading .050" down each side of peak, always checked while rotating CW to account for chain slack.
