  1. Standard here in Thailand to, yes they do flip out, With the heat here they are a fantastic option. I do have A/C but it drains so much power from the motor I try not to use it.
  2. I Gave My little beast new fluids and filters, It loved me for it. Ran a couple of hundred miles since the re-build engine so was time for it. Got a 'what I think' is a very good idea for the hood, and don't believe its been done before. Will upload pics when I do it!
  3. Can work for sure Mike, I've done it the way I previously described... was quick and accurate.
  4. Mike and Distributorguy have it covered. The gaskets, I made my own! Buy some gasket paper (most motor stores should sell) and a small hammer. Place the gasket paper where it should be (Flat), with the small hammer, gently tap the edges and this should cut the gasket to the perfect size and shape.
  5. I gave mine a good clean. They are a simple enough carb, but you got to watch the little ball bearings and springs and make sure you rubuild as per spec.. The only thing I replaced with new was the float needle (found it at a local store here in Thailand). The fuel level is pretty easy to set up as you have the indication on the front glass screen to the fuel bowl. Just a pain taking the thing off a few times if you get the level wrong first time. I suggest taking a load of pictures through the process to refer back to and hold back on having a few beers. Good luck.
  6. Well this was a waste of my life reading this thread..... was actually hoping for a decent ending! I guess there is no hope for some people!
  7. Installed Electronic Ignition on the J15 powered Datsun 620!!
  8. Every now and again my engine is cutting out when driving it. I'm sure its due to Carb because due to the helpful glass screen on the Nikki Carb I can see there is no fuel in the carb. I little tap on the Carb and turn the key to wait for the mechanical fuel pump to fill the carb again then absolutely floor the car for half a mile solves the issue temporarily! Is this likely to be a sticking float in the carb? Anybody else had similar issues?
  9. It shouldn't be a issue here, a Thai mechanic has been at the car already and done it the 'Thai' way!!! I'm sure there will be a lot of things required and to be replaced to original when I get further into the build. Ill solve them then! By the way... If you're not familiar with the 'Thai way' - it means to fix it anyway regardless. Doesn't matter if you chop everything out as long as the initial problem is fixed fixed!
  10. Not at all, im just interested to know a little about the history of the vehicle... its not a big problem - just me :w00t: !!
  11. Mine won't have it then. Can you read anything from the VIN under the bonnet?
  12. Engine is back in the car and running sweet!
  13. All sorted, I must have put it together correctly as the engine is running great!! I matched the 'dot' where the J is on the cam sprocket to the dot on the crank sprocket. This logic must be about right!! Thanks for the help!!
