  1. So the pump without a spacer has been I. There for years and works great! Will it do any damage to the engine if I don't have the spacer? I already returned the new pump that broke. And I had just replaced all of the fuel lines.
  2. The truck has been running just great the last couple of days. no issues. Hainz when you said make sure i have the spacer in-between the fuel I'm curious because the fuel pump that has been in the truck for a long time does not have the spacer. When i purchased a new fuel pump it did have the spacer however it stopped working within the first 10 miles of driving. The two pumps are very different though. The old one without the spacer that is currently in the truck can be taken apart and adjusted with screws. The new one that stopped working was not adjustable at all. My question is do i need the spacer for this pump? Thanks Again
  3. well put in another mechanical fuel pump i had and now she's running great. thanks so much fellas
  4. Yes I did try taking the hose from pump to carb off and there was no fuel pumping out at all when I turned over the engine. I just put a new mechanical pump in but I guess it could just be a bad one? Should I put in a electric pump? i really like the idea of the mechanical pump however, is there a specific one?
  5. Alright, today i stated checking off different things on the list of things to check. Took valve cover off and timing is good, TDC showed distibutor at 11:28 position. Tightened all Carb to manifold bolts and adapter bolts as well as checked the intake manifold to block bolts. all good. Points were slightly corroded so i took a small rasp to them and cleaned them up. Brand new fuel filter, cut up the old one had slight amount of stuff in it but was still relatively new. new spark plugs. Still nothing. So i decided to put in the old spark plug cables just for shits and giggles. BOOM starts right up, maybe i got the wrong spark plug cables? I don't know. But after driving the truck about 10 miles down a dirt road It dies on me again. Now there is no fuel in the carb float bowl at all, but if i put fuel in the float bowl the truck will fire right up. Is this a fuel pump issue? I did just get a new mechanical not electric fuel pump and this was the first time driving with it in. I just cleaned out the fuel tank and blew out the gas lines. Very confused as to what is going on Thanks guys
  6. I have poured gas in and still nothing. However every once in a while it try to start and wants to gives a nice put put then nothing again. I did recently replace the cables from spark plugs to distributor if that could be an issue? But they are set up on 1342
  7. Alright Had time today to take out the fuel tank and clean it. I then proceeded to reinstall the tank put some gas in it and try to fire it up but nothin. still same issue, just turns and turns, every once in a while it'll fire once or twice then nothin. I put the original ignition back in to see if that as the issue but nope same thing. I forgot to mention that my battery will not hold a charge, so maybe alternator? will your engine not run if you have a bad alternator?
  8. Thanks for ideas guys, now i have a list of things to try for the day. The coil is not aftermarket or upgraded at all just a new stock coil, same as the old one. should i still try putting the old one back in? I Did just purchase a new fuel filter however it is not clear cause i didn't look when i bought it but i plan to get a clear one in a day or so! If there is crud in the tank what is the easiest way to remove thus crud? siphon the full take the tank off? Now the truck won't even start! I can see that the carb is getting fuel when i take the filter off and look in the barrels so I am really stumped. Maybe just new alternator? THANKS AGAIN!
  9. Oh and my ignition light has been staying on!
  10. Hey guys, so i have a 71 521 with the l16 and a weber dgv 32/36. Runs great, starts right up every time but i will be driving down the road and all of a sudden the truck will start glugging, shoots out a back fire if I touch the gas at all, then dies. When i try to start it it turns over, wants to start, gives a putter then dies. 5 to 10 minutes of waiting and it will start right back up like nothing even happened. On a couple occasions it happened continuously every 4 miles. Replaced the fuel filter, have brand new ignition coil, distributor ignition cables, blew out gas lines in engine bay, checked filter in carb. still no luck! oh and it has been 95 degrees + and very dry but running at regular temp. Please help Thanks
  11. Just purchased a kit after searching for a lil while so now i guess I'm just waiting for the mail. Once again hahah
  12. Yes it is a 1971 521 1600 with the L16 Thanks for the junk yard tip probably going to go see if i can find some here in a little bit! Yeah i was torquing them at like 3 pounds so I'm thinking and hoping its just the old bolts. Is there and actual set of bolts just for this or am i going to need to order them separately? I have been trying to post pictures but I cannot for some reason. It says that i am unable to post pictures in this community. Is this because i am a new member or am i missing something? Thanks guys This is awesome!
  13. Hey guys, I have recently been replacing the head gasket on my 521 that has been used for a ranch truck for the past 25 years because I'm trying to turn it into my daily driver. I also put in new timing kit just cause i had it all out and open so why not. My issues are lying within putting the front cover back on. First off there are various bolts missing, so i am curious if i can get a kit with all of the bolts in it. The reason for wanting to replace all of the bolts is that i purchased a couple for the missing bolts but when i went to tourque the cover on i have broken two of the old bolts already. I have successfully gotten the broken bolts out because there was enough thread once i got the cover off to get them out and they both were finger tight. It is really getting very frustrating and now i am to the point where i just want all new bolts. Does anyone have information on all of the sizes or a kit i can purchase with all of the correct bolts in it? At this point i feel like everytime i touch a bolt on the cover it breaks. Am i being a dumbass and doing someone wrong? I am not experienced in this sort of thing what so ever so please tell me what i am doing wrong. Thanks guys!
