  1. Hello All! A few months ago I purchased a 1969 521 pick-up with a J-13 that runs well. I bought it from a elderly gentleman in Ohio (which is where I'm from). I really didn't look it over like I should have before I bought it for fear that someone else would buy it if I left and came back later to really check it out. I was able to drive it home (about 125 miles) with an old Honda motorcycle, truck cap and various motorcycle/truck parts in the bed. During the trip I discovered that the blower motor for the heater didn't work along with several other "old farmer" fixes that were done to keep it going as long as he could. The body (cab)- rusted pretty badly, but covered with mastick (roof sealing tar basically) than painted over with brush. The hood- As thin as paper, no latch and is held down by pins. cracking at hinge mounts. The bed- Same as the body but the tail gate and tail lights in good condition. All the glass is intact. The frame- Seems pretty solid but after crawling under I found 2 or 3 bad spots that will have to be repaired. Exhaust- Small manifold leak at front cylinder, down pipe rusted pretty bad, large dent in the down pipe, glass-pack right under the cab that became very obvious when the old rusty flex pipe from there all the way back fell off on the way home. My ears are still ringing! Engine- Lots of oil gunk. I has a home made air cleaner and battery tray. Runs good but struggles at high rpm's. I replaced plugs, rotor button, cap etc. but it needs electronic ignition bad. Starts at the touch of the key even on very cold days. (12 deg. F.) No oil or water leaks anywhere. I've put over 300 miles on it and it hasn't used any oil at all. No smoke. Great compression. Transmission- excess play in the shifter, shifts up just fine but down to 3rd syncs are tired. 2nd and 1st are fine. Clutch is great. Electrical- OH MY GOD! Fuse box uncovered and in poor shape but is still functioning right. Many worn/broken connections that have been spliced or rerouted in the similar farmers style mentioned before. All lights work except reverse, interior dome, right rear marker. The headlight buckets are pretty badly rusted. Brakes- Needs alot of work, no E-brake due to cables pretty much rusted away. All wheel cylinders need rebuilt. (drum) Some lines have been replaced but not ran properly. Other lines need replacing but still holding. All four tires are brand new. It has the original spare and wheels. All that being said, to get the most ??? out of it, should I do........ Sell it whole? (I'll take $500 or best offer, I'm taking a loss) or part it out? What would you do?
