  1. Got my transmission apart and dug out my calipers. Just like Mike said they are 5mm x 25mm. I also measured the I.D. for the double pin upgrade. My pins would take 3mm x 25mm roll pins down the center if I go that route and for $0.38 I think I will. Thanks everyone for your help.
  2. Does anyone know what the actual dimensions are for the diameter of the shift fork roll pins? (Nissan Calls em retaining pins) I replaced a shift fork a few months ago and used the closest size roll pin I could find from the hardware store- as Nissan has then on backorder. It just fell out this last Friday on my way to work. So I want to visit the local fastener specialty vendor and get the proper metric ( I assume) sized roll pin rather than wait for Nissan to get them in. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Tranny is 1980 Fs5w71b close ratio out of 280zx. Thanks Rugerluger
  3. Thanks doc. Merlin has the part!
  4. These are the best angles to see any of the markings made in the casting. Thanks for your replies I hope this helps.
  5. I have a broken shift fork (1st and 2nd) on my 5 speed close ratio from an '81 280zx that I have been running in my 510.Unfortunately the part is NLA from Nissan, and have already purchased two online to find out that the part was not in stock. Does anyone know if a shift fork from a 71C would fit by any chance? (There is a 71c for sale a short drive away) or does anybody have any other ideas on where I might be able to find a fork. Maybe somebody has or knows someone who has a parts transmission? I have looked locally at junk yard s and the like and am coming up dry. Any help would be so very much appreciated. Thanks, Mike
  6. Just purchased a new OVAL shifter boot form an ebay seller in mexico. They are newer than any NOS nissan parts and are being made in Mexico. The texture is slightly different from the OEM. The ebay sellers name is kentigo. Link: Gear Shifting Boot for Bluebird 510 1970 - 1972
  7. Thanks for the info. For some reason in my mind I assumed that the Z would have a longer driveline. Now that I think about the transmission in relation to the rear axle I can see that the sedans driveline would be longer.
  8. I would like to put a five speed from a 1980 280zx in my L20b powered 510. I have read all that I can find about the conversion and what it entails. One thing I can't find info on is driveshaft diameter. The seller of the 5 speed has the driveline from the 280 to sell along with the Trans. Can I shorten the Z driveline instead of shortening the 510? I apologize if the answer is obvious but I haven't seen the 280 driveshaft to compare it to the 510.
  9. Yeah Greengoon lives in my town. I haven't met him personally but I have seen his wagon when visits my neighbor from time to time.
  10. Its possible. I never thought to look for any signs of it being an automatic. Its currently in storage for the winter.
  11. Sorry I thought i had inserted a photo. It currently has 4 speed manual married to an l20b. The current speedometer in the vehicle works ok (a little bouncy at lower speeds). But when i was looking through the spare parts and saw this ... thing on the back of the speedo it peaked my curiosity. it has a label marked 211 and some Japanese charecters.
  12. I recently purchased a 1972 510. One of the previous owners swapped the original instrument cluster w/o a tach for a cluster with a tachometer. I found the original cluster with a few other spare parts in a box. The original Gauge set has some sort of adapter or sensor attached to the rear of the speedometer. It is a metal cylinder with two wires coming off of it. The speedo cable hooks into the back of the adapter/sensor. Anyone have any ideas on what it is? My Google and forum search powers have failed me thus far.
