Hi - I run stock 510 front calipers on the rear of my 510 race car. I'm planning to switch out to something else over the winter, but need to finish this season. Does anyone have a pair of front calipers in decent shape they want to sell? Thanks! Joe

  2. You can get them at parts stores. If you need the part number, pm me. I have it in the shop.
  3. Hi everyone, I have a '69 510 B-Sedan race car. I'm currently running stock 510 front disks on the rear, and wonder if there are any other options that fit easily. At some point, I'll switch back to drums to conform to some vintage groups' rules, but for right now, I'd just like to find something a little easier to get parts for. I have to run 13" wheels, so a lot of alternatives won't work. Thanks! Joe
  4. Hello all, I want to replace the glass windshield in my 510 race car with a polycarbonate. The vendor lost the design specs. I put in the glass 3 years ago, and could potentially take it to the vendor. Does anyone know the curvature specs? I can make a paper template from an old polycarbonate one, but that doesn’t help with the curve. Thanks!!

Hello! I am running a pre-82 280zx 5-speed (71B) in a 510 race car. Currently rebuilding the transmission and looking for a reverse idler gear (23 tooth). My next race is coming up in 3 weeks, so I'm pretty desperate. 🙂

  6. Thanks everyone. I have heard the 23 vs 22 tooth thing, and mine has 23 for sure. Also looking for synchros. Any opinions on factory vs aftermarket?
  7. Hi all, does anyone have a good source for Datsun transmission parts? I race a 510 and am rebuilding the transmission. (Pre-81 280zx trans) I need a 23 tooth reverse idler gear. Any thoughts?
  8. Hello all. I’m running an L20B with 2 Weber DCOE 45s in a 510 B Sedan race car. Does anyone have experience switching to a cable-based throttle linkage from stock. Just found out (again) that I was only getting to 7/8 throttle due to slop in the linkage.

  10. Good suggestions - thanks! The module is facing forward. The issue seemed to be heat or vibration related. It happened once after about 8 laps right after heavy braking and a hard turn, coming on to a straight. Lots of movement/vibration, at racing temps but not super hot. The second time was sitting on the grid waiting to go out. Water temp about 190, but no airflow (as is the case with many race cars, I don't run a cooling fan). Both times the engine stopped dead. Both times, it restarted after sitting/cooling off.
  11. I'll get a photo tomorrow. The car's still in the trailer. Have there been issues with the pick up unit overheating and cutting out? I know that's pretty common with British cars.
  12. Hi - I have a 510 race car and fought electrical gremlins all weekend at Road Atlanta. I'm using an MSD ignition box and am wondering if MSD or anyone else makes a compatible distributor that would be suitable for racing... I believe what's in there now is a "matchbox" distributor. I would love to take out all of the old wiring and find something I can just plug in. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!!
  13. Thanks. The VRG rules (where I race) are pretty open. They say "...has to have the same number of fwd speeds" (basically the same number of speeds as the old B-Sedan days). Always seemed odd to me that the Trans Am and B-Sedan 510s were homologated with 5 speeds when they were only available with 4 speeds in the US.
  14. BTW - my best laps were in the 2:06s but I'm still learning the car. It'll do a lot more than I'm asking from it. John Morton was the last guy to drive it in a race before I bought it and finished third nursing a bad clutch in a vintage TA at Elkhart Lake. Sorry to hear about the rear end. I've never seen a pinion gear leave like that.
