  1. Oh yeah, I've been running Power Services brand Diesel Fuel supplement with my fuel.. I think its been helping lol
  2. I'm convinced I've got at least two dead plugs in the head.. With the sub zero starts, once it runs, it runs rough, and I can hear it go from a 4 to a 5 and then a 6 cylinder diesel lol.
  3. In 82, the Maxima got a glow plug controller and a variable dropping resistor to be used with the fast glow glow plugs. The stock Nissan controller is about 8 seconds to "fully" warm up the plugs. The controller uses a relay to control the amount of voltage is sent to the plugs for a "controlled" plug temperature, typically not exceeding past 900 degrees Celsius. The system is pretty good, although there were many complaints with ld28 owners in warmer climates having issues with warm starts. There is a "dead zone" in the controller, where it wont kick on the glow plugs if it senses a "warm" coolant temperature, but the engine itself may be too cold for it to start on its own. I've run into that issue once before in California. Best thing to do when you still use the original controller is to warm it up completely, and don't just go for a quick gas station milk run! I want to do a manual glow plug system in conjunction with the QGS controller, but its quite risky since the QGS plugs are prone to cracking and breaking if the temps exceed 900 celsius for extended periods of time, hence the controllers used with them. I'll probably start with a fresh set of plugs first, then see how it fairs with the 0 degree weather we've got. I snagged this brand new 10 piece box on ebay a while back. It's almost a shame to have to tear into it!
  4. I'm definitely thinking its due for a new set of glow plugs. I've got two whole new sets on the side, I just haven't swapped them out just yet. Correct units too, NGK Y204RS, which are quick glow system plugs, to use in conjunction with the Nissan glow plug controller. I'm definitely worried about any of the tips breaking off the plugs when I start pulling them out, but I suppose I just have to do it either way.
  5. S12 broke down, so I've been forced to driving the Maxima in this weather. It absolutely hates starting in any weather below 10 or so, but it's amazing that it even starts in 0 degree weather. Just takes alot of cranking, and alot of battery juice. Since I park so far away from any wall outlet, I don't have any source of power for a block heater, or a battery tender, so when storms hit us, I resort to bringing my battery indoors to keep it warm and charged lol. Very cold, cold start for yall.
  6. Storm hit Missouri pretty good, the next storm coming through should be a pretty damn good one too! Should have covered up the maxima haha. Woops. But the S12 has been a pretty good winter beater so far. OG keys to the new project Datsun..
  7. I grew up around older Nissans and Datsuns, living in Okinawa and California, and I definitely love mid to late 60's to 70's japanese sports cars, but I do have an appreciation for the cars from the early 80s. Performance but with a spec of "luxury". Is it perfect? Definitely not, especially for the cars marketed towards the USA One of the biggest let downs in my opinion was the failure for diesels to take off as a viable option in the USA. The 910 Maxima, 720, Sentra.. The isuzu pickups, or the terrible converted GM 350 diesel in the lesabre, delta 88, bonnevilles.. All in reality a failure in the application of diesels in the u.s. The 80s was a weird time, with alot of new experiments and failures. Its also why I love the early 80s cars, theyre just so weird! I'd love to drive a 280zx for once especially if its a turbo. I want to see how good they actually are or how much potential they have.
  8. Haha yes, I'm currently in the USAF, working away in Whiteman AFB Missouri, definitely been an interesting time here. Snow has finally arrived here, so the maxima is basically down for winter. Hopefully my S12 will continue to run good, otherwise I'll have to dig out the maxima for work! Only thing thats been a bummer about Missouri is that finding other datsun nerds out here is not easy. Besides a few Z car guys, theres not much out here. Im trying to start up a group/club here for Missouri specifically. Missed my chance to cover up the Maxima too so it got a little snowy lol
  9. It's very weird how the valley gets nothing, but not far away on the edge of the valley like Auburn itll snow lol.
  10. I'm from Sacramento, most we ever get is hail haha. And before that I lived in Okinawa and it definitely didnt snow there lol.
  11. Three years of owning the Maxima, and nearly 50,000 miles driven. Still love this damn car. Happy holidays and happy new year to all of y'all! Just going to do my normal photo dump of the maxy. Nothing new to it, still waiting for the right time to tear it apart for the planned turbo, 6 speed swap and gear change.. Soon, I promise that.. Soon. First time I've seen snow actually falling from the sky.. I've only seen the aftermath of snowfall in my life lol. Also I've bought another datsun project yet again.. This time, in the Z flavor 😉
  12. Happy holidays and a happy new year to all of y'all. Just a little bit of a photo dump of whats happening with the s12. I think ive put about 250 miles or so on the S12. Got it tuned up and driving pretty good, but I just dont trust it enough to be reliable enough to drive for long periods of time. Found a guy a few hours away in Oklahoma who collects S12's and has some really nice cars, and I bought some good parts from him. He has a really nice Skyline wagon and a very clean VG S12.. Bought all kinds of small things from him, to include a good rear bumper and a clean gas tank, which is a hell of a score! Got exhaust work done, added a extra muffler in the system so it wasnt so loud and annoying. Its very quiet at idle but screams pretty good in the higher rpms. Snow and cold weather is finally approaching in Missouri, and the car is not happy about it. Ive got a weird intermittent issue, where if I dont fully warm up the car and go for a drive, then park and shut the vehicle off, and return to it 10 minutes later, it does not want to start back up. Itll start, run for 15 seconds, then cut ignition. Then it doesnt start at all unless I let it sit for 5 minutes, but continues to have the ignition cut issue. It almost feels like the coolant temp sensor is faulty and cutting ignition/fuel.. The only fix ive had for this after many different tries, is to just let it sit overnight. Its happened about twice now.
  13. Got some winter tires installed on the 14" panasports for the s12. 185/60/r14, for that thick meat look for the tiny 14s. I fricken love it, and now it needs more low haha. I've also got the lineup for a ka24DE, 5 speed, with all the accessories and wiring and driveshaft coming up. Waiting on more suspension parts, foxbody shocks, and more s13 goodies for the front. I'm on the lookout for s14 tension rod brackets so I can run the s13 LCA and s13 adjustable tension rods.
  14. I'm on the lookout for a KA24E/DE to do a swap in the future. I know the ca20e isn't that great of a engine, especially when it comes to power adders, so a swap is logical.
