  1. Been a little while since my last post :P Biggest things to say are... THE SNOW IS GONE!(and the salt).. I've actually had the car out for a few rips! Including taking it to one of the biggest car shows in the maritimes. It was the first of the season, and I went with a group of buddies under the name of Maritime RHD. I finally bought T3 front 280zx coilovers. I also traded my dogleg 5speed for another pair of 280zx front struts that were suposs to be complete, but lacked one caliper bracket, and both calipers. However, they did include hubs so that's the main thing. I'm trying to find a place to buy all new rotors, brake pads, calipers, wheel bearings, and balljoints but so far no luck, even through work haha. Probably just going to buy a 'big brake kit' and say screw it. I've also made the homemade rear coilovers at work because I was bored(camaro shocks, honda civic coilover kit, etc etc), but think I'm going to just buy proper coilovers because the car tends to want to squat too much and scrape a little too much for my liking while accelerating. I also flocked my dash! and do I ever love it. It feels just like my dog so it was nice rubbing it when I was away at speedsport for four days with it haha. Another thing I'm really proud of, is I finally managed to find brand new door locks for the car. Now I just need a trunk lock lol. It feels really good to be able to play with the car, without worrying too much about breaking the rearend anymore.. Hell, my gas milage isn't half bad either hahaha. One thing about my recent trip to speedsport though, is I was suposs to do an alignment at work but that got way too busy, so I ended up driving the few hours there with my car decently out. arrived with almost bald front tires. When they were handing out awards, me and my buddy did a string alignment(with two jackstands, some speaker wire, our weekend pass and a marker) to do the front alignment after figuring out the front and rear track widths were the same. Rotated my tires so it looked like a burnout machine, and made it home fine with no more wear. Anyways, here's some pictures ! Painted up my old scratched, fading cam cover. Roulette green! I even brought home an ISCA award for rising star!, and first place for my class. Twiggy was also at the show so figured I misawell go see her haha. So just to recap because I'm rambling, the plans now are to buy everything for my struts so I can finally put my 280zx struts/coilovers on the front, buy rear discs, buy new wheels, buy a T28 turbo, hook up my nistune and tune it, install an E-brake (lol), and just enjoy the car. I'm hoping to start autocrossing it this year as well. I'm going to Montreal next month with my buddy to go to all the JDM importer shops, so I'm hoping to be able to pick up some unique goodies, or upgrades (really hoping for wheels lol), so I'll post if I get anything!
  2. I'm just going to copy and paste my post from therealm as it's getting late at night and I work quite early. I guess it's been a while since I did an update haha, well, since august a lot has happened, so I'll try and post what I remember haha. I managed to score a 2013 subaru R180 Torsen LSD through work for $300 Canadian(basically $100 for you Americans now haha), wit only 20k on it. The downfall is it's only 3:54's gears right now but we'll see how it drives and I may keep them, or upgrade to some 3:90s or 4:11s. Incase you guys don't remember, the whole reason I needed to upgrade to the R180 was because of this... So since it's the winter months, I also decided to tear the turbo and stuff off since I was having a few issues. The turbo was burning a little bit of oil, the exhaust was leaking, and just a few other small issues. Turns out the oil issue was just having the wrong oil restrictor on it(or basically lack there of haha) but everything went back together fine and just waiting on my next bit of work on the car, so I can get it to run and make sure everything's fine. Since the 510 was getting more reliable, I decided to bite the bullet and buy an oil cooler so my temp doesn't keep climbing during highway driving. I bought a universal mishimoto kit with a thermastatic sandwich plate. They ended up forgetting to send me a fitting with the kit, so I had to order a new one, and since I was at it I decided I'd use a oil relocation kit I've had stored away forever so I ordered a few more fittings and hoses through work.(I'm still waiting on the actual fitting for the sandwich plate though as it's on backorder haha). I ended up having to modify my motor mount as the sandwich plate didn't want to clear too well. Also decided on ordering a wideband as I purchased a Nistune ECU a while back and finally going to put it to good use and get some tuning done. Here's a picture from since my last post. After taking this photo and getting back on the road, a deer jumped out in front of me after I got back up to highway speeds. FUN FUN FUN. One reason I haven't really been updating on the forums too much is because I've been too busy working and trying to decide what to do with my other project. The reason I'm trying to decide what to do is because the motor decided it wanted to overheat and cook itself when I was driving it to put it in storage. Incase you're wondering what it is. It's a pro-street 1982 Cavalier(well Clone.. It's a Firenza shell) hatchback, converted to rear wheel drive with a V8(sbc). I've been wanting to sell it so I can buy a '55 chev, but noone would ever give me anything for it as a rolling chassis. I've even had it posted haha. So the plan now I guess if it really doesn't sell, is to shove a 5.3 LS I bought off my coworker into it, with a turbo kit. It's kind of hard bouncing back between two projects like this haha. But here's some more photos I've forgot to post incase anyone enjoys! My datsun with my dad's '55 hardtop. The more pictures there are, the less boring it is, right? hahaah
  3. Well, it's been a while since I last posted so here's an update. I had to shove another stock datsun R160 back in the car just so I can drive it(at least I can drive it :P), and ended up going on a few long cruises and a couple shows. Still on the hunt for a decent R180. One of the cruises I went on, involved a couple other local 510s. As winter is approaching and the car'll be taken off the road for it, I think I'm going to hold off on working on it until after it's put in the garage for good. from driving it this year, it's obvious this winter it'll be getting front coilovers + 280zx brakes, rear discs, front sr20 sway bar and an oil cooler kit. The turbo seals are starting to get a little bad too, so I'm going to have to pick up a T28 before spring.
  4. Well it's been a while since I did an update. I've been driving the hell out of this car, and taken it for a lot of cruises and bunch of car shows which has been great because it's quite a blast to drive, espicially with my trusted puppy beside me. The other day I even ended up blowing up the stocker R160, and currently running into difficulties with a subaru LSD. The car has had quite a few bugs worked out of it already though such as the front tie rods and RHD center-link, so that's a plus. Just need to get some bigger brakes, coilovers for more low, front sway bar and it should be a dream to drive. Text is boring so here's some photos collected up over since my last update. I talked my dad into going out with me for a cruise to a local meet with his shoebox! Hopefully sticking in a R160 open rear end tonight from my friend so the car can still be driveable until I can either get my R160 subaru LSD rear to work, or I manage to pick up an R180 LSD. I was going to tear the rearend out of my 260z for this, but found out that all 2+2's had R200s :( Just sucks that the first time I ever put it to the floor, it decided to blow up in second gear lol. Since this is driveable now(minus rearend situation atm), I decided to start working on the ol' prostreet cavalier again too! Also debating on selling my factory 510 tach, couple THICK front swaybars, and a few other oddities of 510 parts since I have no use for them.
  5. Well, we got it running, and all legal and managed to take it out for two drives! It just sucks because it broke down for the car show which happened to be the next day. Fuel pump decided to break down on us at 11:30pm the day before the car show and had to get a tow haha. Anyways, my buddy and I (who has a build thread on here), decided to go out and get some pictures (before his car also broke down after his like 300km drive to where I live), From driving the car, a few issues were found, and a lot of them fixed. They would include working tach, exhaust being too low and hitting off EVERYTHING, passenger side panel, fuel pump, oil temp gauge, ignition switch, and a few other things. Most of which were fixed. Unfortanately the fuel pump and exhaust haven't been fixed yet. The plan is to get a new fuel pump and hopefully get on the road again. Thankfully though, we fixed my buddys 510 as it was just the altenator loose and he needed a new battery as it draining so much ruined his. I've put maybe 40km on this, and it's working amazing for the most part. it goes like snot even just giving it a little bit of gas which is promising haha
  6. Well it's been a while since I last updated. so here I go. Spent hours, upon hours going over the wiring, after trying to get it going, and troubleshooting why it wouldnt. Turns out one big problem is that all four of my coilpacks were cracked. I'm currently waiting on new ones to arrive so I can knock that off the list (and hopefully it'll run.) Car is currently a mess as the dash is torn all apart with wires going everywhere from the troubleshooting :P. It was quite the ordeal though, bouncing between no spark and no injector pulse. Going through the harness though, it was easy to spot forgotten little gremlins(like unhooked grounds... Oops.) I checked the igniter chip, the CAS, and everything else I could dig up on the internet to go over. so here's to hoping it's just the fact the coilpacks are coated in cracks is why it wouldn't go. Other then that though, the car is buttoned up! ...Mostly Fuel lines are ran with no leaks (anymore), all my vacuum lines are ran, all the wiring neccessary for it to run is wired up, etc etc. Once the car's running though, I'm going to tidy everything up as wires are everywhere open, and install the new modified fiero rad so the rad hoses can be installed along with filling it with coolant and putting that slim electric fan on! The only wiring that needs to be finished is hooking up the tach, and running a couple wires for the temp gauge, oil gauges, and ground the fuel. So basically I've been watching the tracker for my coilpacks nonstop hoping they'll arrive here sooner. It felt good to actually change the oil, and start doing a few maintancy things to it though. Getting excited to hear this thing go!, espicially with the homemade exhaust haha. Anyways, here's some photos! My poor stock coils :( And a few more from speed sport east. ..I'll be getting new wheels eventually, just hard to find stuff here locally :P
  7. Well, I ended up taking the car to a car show. ...but on a trailer. It's just about to run though! Just kinda ran out of time.. I just need my fittings to hurry up and come in the mail so I can actually piece it back together. The only things it needs(unless something goes terribly wrong..), are the fuel fittings, one coolant fitting, rad hoses(which came in today), o2 sensor adapter(which came in today, and to finish up a few grounds, one ignition wire and all my vacuum lines. ...also wait on turbo flanges so I can finish up my intercooler piping. The other bit is once it's running is to nicely tuck/wrap the wires so it looks more appealing under the hood(bit of a mess currently). but here's a bit of a teaser of the car currently. I have motor shots and more photos, just aren't uploaded from the camera yet. Due to work (and the woman), I won't be able to work on this for the next week, but I plan on it being drivable by the end of the month.
  8. So as I have a car show in FOUR days. me and my buddy have been working steady on getting our cars done/ready enough. Progress in the past few days would include, Turbo mounted, Intake made and fitted installed and taken back off, turbo lines ran, downpipe installed, catch can figured out, what I need blocked off figured out, Merging the SR20 harness with the 510 harness, speakers + stereo bought so I can fill a few holes, lowered the car, brake lines all ran + bled, clutch bled, battery relocation kit + switch, trunk cut to house the fuel cell, holes cut for fuel line, fuel line halfly intalled(waiting on a few fittings), doorglass installed(would have doors together completely but the new doorhandles are having a slight fitment issue), cleaned up + repainted door covers + rear side covers, pan made for where the transmission tunnel was cut for the SR20 transmission, routed other wiring, and too much stuff to remember. During this process, I have figured out I needed quite a bit of odds and ends and hopefully they get here in time. I'm currently waiting on rear windshield seal from datsport, O2 sensor adapter, rad hoses(why no speed shops around here stock the little stuff still stumps me), and some AN fitting adapters. Also found out today I need to grind some off the tie-rod ends and add 3mm spacers as when we were moving the car they decided they wanted to dig into the wheels which made a nice groove and pushing a little bit difficult haha. little things though, right? The buddy that's helping me with the 510 owns the subaru in the pictures and we figured we misawell get the cars together in the same garage so we don't waste time getting our cars together for speed sport on thursday. after a few hours, his car's basically already ready to go so for the next few days after work we're both going nonstop on my car(minus buffing and a downpipe gasket for his haha). The plan of attack for the 510 next is to finish up the wiring completely(which won't be hard as it's basically just gauges, ECU, fan and checking it over left). then sand + buff both cars, finish up the intercooler piping which I started, finish up the exhaust, seal off a few vacuum lines, install catch can, run the rest of the vacuum lines, finish off the fuel lines, install the radiator, PUT IN THE WINDSHIELD + REAR WINDSHIELD, door stuff, modify the seats + install them, lay the rest of the carpet, finish up putting the dash together, change the oil, run coolant in it, and whatever other surprises pop up. I know it probably won't be running for thursday but it'd be sweet if it was. Good thing we have a trailer now :P. and here's some pics. It doesn't really look that nice atm, but once it's more near completion, it'll look a lot cleaner and more together. Most of the stuff is just halfly put on currently as it's just going to come back off to reinstall other parts or checking to modify. Oh well, Progress right?!
  9. So I got a few things in the mail! What isn't here, are my new shocks, electrical components, battery relocation kit, fuel pump, muffler, horn and a few other things. Needless to say I'm pumped because the car can go together that much faster! However, the people I bought my rear windshield seal from messed up and sent me the front one, so I just had to order one express from Australia. oh well! It's been a busy couple weeks. me and my buddy ended up repainting my cheap new wheels(they're 15x7 + 25 offset so I can lower my car now at least), rotating my turbo, picking up the bits necessary to bolt it together, test fitting some stuff, cleaning up and polishing shiny bits, printing out wiring diagrams, starting to route brake lines, ran clutch line, cut + sowed up my rear seat, heater installed, tore out my rear subframe, cleaned up + painted/rockguarded underneath, tore steering wheel off(was going to replace but don't really got the time or money atm), and a lot of just small things I can't even remember. Here's the rearend out. I have to do a rear-disc conversion, but that won't be until next year probably. The reason I tore the rear-end out was to be able to clean up + paint underneath, clean up + paint the rear subframe, replace the rearend with a subaru LSD, install lowering springs + new camaro shocks, cut the exhaust hole for my new exhaust and stuff. Well, I'm not swapping out the rear for the subaru one yet because I don't have time to mess around with new axles stubs + changing the yolk so I'm just going to run the original datsun one for now. It'll give me time to save up for an R180 LSD anyway hahaha. Another problem was I forgot to unhook the brake lines and snapped them when the rear dropped(oops.) I already got my shocks, and springs and I'm just waiting on getting my rear crossmember back with a 4 1/2 inch hole cut in it welded up with pipe inside of it so I can put my car back together. The plan is to shove my interior back together, do my wiring, get some tires mounted on my wheels, put my doors back together(since I just got my new doorhandles :D), put the windshield + rear windshield in(once my new seal comes in the mail...), cut up + weld my intercooler piping, find some 3" mandrel bends and some exhaust piping so I can weld my exhaust up(since I also got my muffler :D), run my fuel lines + pump + fuel cell, vacuum lines, modify my seats to fit, rig up a center console, and a few other things. Going to throw a buff in there too! Kicker is I'm doing most of this in the next 15 days due to a car show coming up. Even if its not together, It'll look like it's together hahaha
  10. Well crap, This happened. Took it to work at 10am, took it home at 5pm. I love bake cycles. Spent the rest of the night cleaning up trim, painting random small things, and getting ready to reesemble for the most part. I think my next big plan of attack is to tackle the heater and then wire it so I can get my dash together, and then do my interior! Also will be tearing the rear apart soon to clean up/paint + replace my rearend with my subaru LSD. Progress'll be quick now that it's painted. :P
  11. I thought the motor itself was different as well?, But as for the linkage, If my memory from research months ago is correct, I have to cut it and weld in an extention for it to work. and as for a wiper cowl, that's something I'd have to pick up alongside a motor(if I do need a motor). I would of picked a cowl up sooner but wiper's just weren't a big deal to me at the time(which was a mistake haha). Otherwise I would of just moved the wipers over already and been done with it and have the cowl prepped for next weekend. I'm not too worried though, I'm sure I'll have enough paint leftover to paint a new cowl in the future so the paint matchs well. Like I've said before, this is a budget-ish build haha, so there's bound to be some flaws for a while until I have money to correct everything. and on a side note, if any of you guys noticed when I did my center-piece for the dash and moulded in a gauge pod, I finally painted it.... With black wrinkle paint! and I must say it looks good, and looks like it'll suit the dash very well once I start pieceing that together too! I'll have to grab a picture of it. HIGHLY recommend that stuff.
  12. I'll be leaving them backwards for now. Eventually I'll buy a Japanese or Australian wiper motor and convert it, but for now I'll just be leaving it as is so I can spend money on getting it running and driving first. I'll still be able to see when it's raining, just not as well. :P
  13. Well, I've been slacking a little bit since my last update due to a getaway trip in Cuba + starting a new job. The car has it's last coat of primer, and has been soaking in for the past almost month. This friday coming, I'm going to be spending the night with my friend finishing the body off with 400 + 500, so we can shove it in an enclosed trailer at 8am the next day and drive it to my new place of employment to use their paint booth. Last night we painted the lips on the fenders, and underside of the hood, so we could put the hood back on. Some other work I've done lately is repaint the interior because of all the overspray primer, measured the driveshaft + took it out to a machine shop to get shortened, + other small things that I can't really remember I did. I figured since this is getting painted, I misawell put an order in so I can start piecing this together quicker once it comes back painted, so I ended up ordering all my gauges(might even be getting a free wideband from my buddy :P), catch can, air intake w/ filter, radiator w/ fans, wink mirror(I just had to. only $20 hahah), top mount turbo lines, thermostat housing and little odds + ends like adapters and fittings. I'm going to be talking to my friend about fuel cells too, so I can get one as soon as possible, along with a fuel pump so I can run all my lines. The plan is to put brake + clutch lines on as soon as possible too. I'm having a hard time trying to find wheels for the car (want something rota grid/te37 style), so I think I'm going to just end up rolling in these minilights on stock suspension for a few months until I can afford coilovers + wheels.. Going to polish up the lip + paint the centers BBS gold however. Also on the hunt for seats as I'm hoping to get this going in 7 weeks. The obviously resprayed parts on the fender was JUST resprayed before the picture due to unnoticed blemishs. Another reason I'm excited for the car to go get painted is the fact that the garage'll be carless for a little bit, so we can quickly clean it haha.
  14. big snowstorm hitting tomorrow, so I won't be able to head to the garage to work, but I got my fenders back, and test fitted on (fit perfectly)! My motor is sitting at a weird angle(to me), but it may be normal because the hood clears and everything. I'm using T3 crossmember with a Z mount and mckinney motor mounts. It looks like the front is a little bit high. I marked where the hole for the fender mirrors is going but I never got the time to actually drill it yet. Another weird thing was I tore my struts apart to find out they swapped on Z strut tops with custom plates so they could have adjustable camber(car used to be a race car from georgia back in the 80s/90s). It was such a weird setup. Anyways, I stole some spare tops I had from my 510 parts car and threw on so I could get the car back on the ground. Just ordered idler arm assembly for it too and that should be the last piece I need before I can steer again because it looks like my center link will clear! I was talking to my friend and I really need to finish up the body so we can ship it out for paint. Now that we have the fenders back I can finally do some finishing touchs + sanding, then reprime the car and just wait until I can send it over to the booth. The more I think about it, the more horny I get to want to see it painted asap. here's a quick pic!
  15. I guess that'd be the smartest route haha. anyways, I'm off to live in tents for the next few days for work, so I won't get any progress done, but i managed to pull this off. and I've already screwed around with the wiring a bit to route out where it's going and such(for the most part.) Glad to have the motor and tranny as I can really start putting some crucial pieces back together! such as the steering and heater, and wiring harness.
