A Datsun engine is not your grandfather's Oldsmoble engine.  A stock L-16 has a torque peak around 3600 RPM.  Hp peak around 5600 RPM.  If you had a Datsun 510 with a tachometer, you would see a yellow zone starting at 6500 RPM, red line at 7000.

4000 RPM is fine.  All day long.

.018 to .022 gap, better to use a dwell meter, 49 to 55 degrees of dwell.

How old is the gasoline in the truck?  Is the gasoline dirty?   Dirt can get stuck on the needle valve closed by the float, and hold the needle valve open.  This overfills the float bowl

I would try to get a OEM mechanical fuel pump.  Most electric fuel pumps put out too much pressure, and overfill the carb float bowl.

It is very hard to tell if the points are good by looking at them.  You should at least set the point gap with a feeler gauge, but it is way better to set point gap with a dwell meter, about 55 degrees of dwell is good.

My understanding it the transmission will bolt to the engine, but it will be tilted the wrong direction.

"Book says to adjust hot but you can adjust cold. Very hard to adjust while hot for first timers."

Adjust cold. then recheck after engine is hot.
