  1. I would take you up on that offer and run a 4G63 but I'm all the way in NY and it looks like your in New Mexico, damn. How much is shipping on a transmission?
  2. I was reading up on that. It seems that adapters and whatnot would be required with most of those transmissions, or hard to find bellhousings from dodge D50's n shit. But the 4G63 is an amazing engine. Great results from just a stock engine with a set of 272 cams and an HX35 off a cummins. More than enough power for the Z. Just getting all the RWD stuff together is there it gets expensive and complicated.
  3. Well, its winter in NY which means its cold as fuck and theres snow everywhere and it never gets warm enough to melt. Being that I bought two more cars for a deal I couldn't refused (73 and 76 Beetles) and one of those is currently in my garage next to the Cutlass, the Datsun is still outside, in the driveway, waiting for me to get to it. Hopefully when the bug is done I'll throw some tires on the Datsun, rig up the gas can fuel tank again and drive it into the garage with only the E brake and it can get some attention. I'm thinking of running Integra DC2 coilovers and doing fender flares and 10x15 wheels with some stretched 215s, I think it'd be very purdy but I am a bit nervious about hacking out the quarter panels which are about the only nice, rust free part of the car  . DC2 coilovers seem to be the easiest. Looks like you just cut the brackets off the bottom thread-on integra mounts, thread em off, cut the bottoms off and then cut the Datsun strut tubes and weld on the DC2 mount tube things and put a sleeve over it, piece of cake and cheap. I would run S13 coilovers except those require those special threaded adapter collar things that for some fuckall reason cost $400 for some tube with threads in it  and thats just nuts and not in budget.
  4. Okay so, I'm hoping someone here is familiar with photoshopping cars to look low and change wheels/add flares (is that even possible?) and would like to fool around with a couple pictures of something non-Datsun. Out of curiosity I'd like to see what my '69 Cutlass would look like with ZG flares and some deep dish wheels on all 4 corners sitting very low. Crazy right? Kind of a cross between a pro touring look and a stock car look I guess. The car is in winter storage now, covered in all kinds of shit so these are some pics I have to work with that may or may not be adequate for photoshopping. If you can use one of em I'd love to see what this car would look like lowered with bolt on flares and some deep dish wheels just for kicks.
  5. I have found a RB20DET with 264/264 cams installed, complete setup even harness and ECU, trans and all, with an intercooler and piping and a turbo header and some other stuff for a grand total of $1100. Its tempting..... but hes 3 hours away and the van we use to haul stuff has no heat or defrost and its the dead of winter in NY so thats probably not happening.
  6. Eh, cash for powa Nissan doesn't have what I need, atleast not domestically lol. I was looking at an RB20DET from a JDM importer for like $1200 but I'd still need a rear sump pan custom ($400+) and some other doo-dads and I'd only make like 170 WHP and if I break something I have to buy another $900 engine. I was looking into a KA-T but as much power as they make they just don't sound...... good. And exhaust note is a big thing for me lol. I'd like to run a 4G63 but the lack of transmission options is a deal breaker price wise. LS is just the way to go for power per dollar and parts availability. If I had unlimited funds I'd have an RB25DET with a big turbo and a nice set of cams in there.
  7. Well guess what? I sold my Trans Am and now have Datsun funds! I've already bought an engine hoist, engine stand, and some misc welding stuff from harbor freight on their black friday sale. Also got my hands on a TH350 Transmission. Hopefully getting a 4.8 LS engine at the end of this week. Looks like I'm going turbo LSX. Once I get the engine home and on the stand I'll put some roller tires on the back of the 280 and get this thing in the garage and yank the L28. Game plan is to get this thing done by spring. Got new blades for the sawzall so tomorrow I'm gonna see if I can cut the tire off the wheel.
  8. Could I measure the resistance to determine the same thing? Rather than going out to the garage and hooking it up to 12v off a battery. I mean, I can, but I have the radio inside and its cold outside  Side note, you said to splice into the wire of which the voltage drops when you turn the volume knob down, wouldn't that be the output side of the pot that goes to the speaker? which would mean no volume adjustment. And you'd want to tap into the other wire, that would be a constant voltage IE the input to the pot? Maybe I'm just thinking backwards tho, I'm no electrical genius
  9. Figure its worth asking, anyone here upgrade to bigger calipers or something and have a set of stockers that are still usable that they'd donate to The Crusty Z for the cost of shipping? Ballin' on a budget wanna get this thing rolling haha. Mods, if posting this in a build thread is against forum rules let me know I'll edit the post, please don't delete the thread.
  10. So, my sawzall won't cut thru the bead of the tire. great. Shitty bent dull blade but I can't find any others. But I got my Trans Am title back in the mail and posted it up for sale. Hopefully someone takes that off my hands soon then I'll have some cash to play with with the Datsun
  11. Yay an update! I got the tire de-beaded. What a fuckin job. I had to max out the jack between the tire and the trailer in 3 places for it to finally pull free. the other side took about 5 minutes. It got too dark and I had to go to a dinner thing so I didn't get the tire completely off the rim but I did get 1 side of the tire over the lip of the rim. Side #2 is gonna be a PITA but I have a sawzall so....
  12. Is an SOS the same thing as a DMV? I'm gonna call the DMV tomorrow and see what I can find out. On the plus side today my dad picked up an air tool kit at a yard sale, which will make working on crusty old datsun 10x easier.
  13. But then I won't get to pull a kick ass wheelstand! lol but in all seriousness I do plan on picking up a NOS kit just to use for various vehicles and It'd be fun to pound a 250-300 shot into the datsun. I've gotta keep an eye on craigslist.
  14. I just may do that. I'm worried it'll just obliterate the clutch and go nowhere tho lol
  15. Its kinda a tough decision, when I swap the 280Z should I pull the intact stock L28 6 banger and 5 speed and sell them, or throw two 150 shot kits of nitrous on it and run a pass at Lebanon Valley Dragway and see if I can run 11s before the block turns into swiss cheese?
