  1. yup, thats it. It must be broken or disabled somewhere else in the car because I never have experienced any buzzing noise with my car failing to start........ thanks for the info I love this forum, love my Dat
  2. I do know what I measured and I made it fit just fine... I even had a tranny guy look it over before i modified the gear..... it went together like it was made that way, LoL Again... the L16 gear is 81/2 in. across from hole to hole., and the Torque converter from the 610 wagon that originally bolted to a L20b is 9in. across from hole to hole (center to center of course) I had to drill out the extra to make the gear fit the 9in distance Both tansmissions have the same bolt pattern to the engine. I just had to swap the plate Do you have info on these trannys?? First came out of a 1971 510 SW L16 Second is from a 1974 610 wagon L20b
  3. So I ran into a quik fix/issue today on my build. I bolted a L16 down into a 610 wagon that originally came with a L20b engine. Only then did i realize that I forgot to measure the distance between the holes on the ring gear, I checked the the thickness and the diameter of each gear but didnt remember to check if the holes matched up, DUMBASS!!!!!! Anyway, I crawled under and went to put in my torque converter bolts only to realize that the holes on the original torqu converter dont match the L16 Ring gear, the housings on the trannys are the same but the holes on the torque converter are at 9 in. and the L16 Ring gear holes are at 81/2 in. ( L20b Ring Gear have 6 bolt pattern where the L16 has 5) So the quik fix, I found a socket to fit the center hole of the two ring gears, pinned them so they wouldnt move and made a template line on the L16 gear. I then carefully cleaned the holes up with a corse file drill bit. No slop what so ever........ so far I have only ran into needing a couple things off the original engine....... Here are a couple parts from the L20b that we needed for the swap to actully work: Oil Pan Engine starter plate Engine mounts ( of course) Exhuast manifold Any suggestions for my build are greatly appreciated!!
  4. I'm getting conflicting answers about what a part is, located on the fire wall in the engine compartment of my 1974 610 wagon.... it is a little box with a red button that says "push" It has 4 wires that go down to a plug that goes into the wiring harness.....
  5. well after a year and a half i am re starting my project.... L16 into a 610 wagon, so far so good.....
  6. my rebuild is goin great.....!

  7. torque specs on a flywheel for L16 motor
  8. re: Banzai510 I'm 30 with three kids not 17, you didn't read the story close I guess..... I just found an engine!
  9. i want to rebuild my L20b an just get around with the L16 for now, in case everyone is wondering.......LoL
  10. I have a 74 610SW with a L20b engine in it. My question to the community is will a L16 engine bolt up to my existing tranny???
  11. Nope, ran out of money, and never got it fixed. The wagon has been sitting for the last ten years....ouch!!! I know what a waste.... But now Im older and appreciate what it is and can be. I want to revive my youth and pass it on to my children, I have three now. They want to see it run, as much as me. It has been in a garage for the last 8 of the 10 yrs. Still its been 10 entire years, I got a lot of work ahead of me. It'll be worth it!!!!!
  12. So Im a 17 yr old kid( 13 yrs ago) with no responsibilities, no job, and not a care in the world...... I had experienced my first outdoor music festival the years before and was hooked, only thing stopping me from going all the time was a way to get to the shows. Always had to find a ride, then one day as I was leaving my grandmothers house I seen it..... This fugly little orange station wagon(1974 610) with a for sale sign in the window... WOW!!!! It really caught my attention. I thought it was the most unique ride out there and I had to have it. I went to the door and asked for info on it...... He wanted 500, we talked him down to 300 and the next day I drove it to the first of many shows... I love my little Dat, now i want to fix her up!!!!! I need info and parts. What engines/ parts if any are interchangeable. Please spread the love and help a brother out. I have a L20b engine and am not sure if the head is warped or what is goin on but I got her hot (like ten years ago now), and blew the head gasket Im thinking, not sure. All I know is there is coolant in my oil. Im thinking just swap engines if I can find a deal. Any thoughts?
