  2. after almost a year of sanding, ( and different 120y ) ive continued my project
  3. so i got the distributor in and checked the timing with a timing light, thankfully the backfiring has stopped but the car is now only running on the center 2 cylinders does anyone know why or anyone whos had this problem? also i have spark in the 2 spark plugs that correspond to the 2 unfiring cylinders, is it possibly a head problem? as in valves being off slightly and thats possibly the backfiring?
  4. hoard everything? i can see the wisdom in that, and yeah your probably right about replacing panel's, and i honestly wouldn't mind giving spray painting a go again thank you :)
  5. you might be wondering why i bought a datsun in the first place, and one of such a rusty persona, well my dad is a Morris minor guy, and one day i asked if i could come to the club with him, he agreed if i would drive because he was tired and was tempted not to go because of it, so i drove him and we got there, anyways 30 minutes later a man names allan stood up and showed everyone pic's of his morris minor, a beautiful blue morris he said he didn't wanna sell it, he wanted to give it away to a young club member, i looked around me and everyone over 60 so i put my hand up, anyways the datsun was originally going to be a parts car for an engine swap, turn's out i liked the parts car more then my original one :P
  6. i bumped the poor thing into a tree backing out one day :( left a mark
  7. so yeah, any tips or pointers would be lovely, also anyone with parts i could use or a part car for a reasonable price. their number would be greatly appreciated. im still learning as these are way before my time and im open to any/all idears on what to do with all the rust :/
  8. i was mowing somebody's lawn and saw a datsun badge on the shed wall, when asked he said he still had one part from the 70's a solid distributor shaft with absolutely no play, my current dizzy would whip around erraticly and cause timing issues so this will help greatly :) and will be going in this weekend , also in this picture is some vinyl which i hope to recover the dashboard with, and maby even the roof, if i can find enough information as to how it was done in the day and with what trim's/glue
  9. with the carpet in i started playing with all the switches, the windscreen water pump didnt work so i modded a pump from a ford falcon to fit with satisfactory results, also the indicator's were being funny so i cleaned all the terminals replaced bulbs and gave some surfaces a sand ( something did it ) i also put a spacer between the break pedal and the switch so the rear lights aren't constantly on and draining my battery, the heater turned over once all the leaves were removed and warmed the car nicely, highbeams are still a little funny but that's next weeks problems. after all this i thought a little modification was in order and fitted a sound system
  10. now that the interior is sealed and the holes in the floor filled up, i thought it was about time to get some carpet in, i found some big peices of used house carpet and thought why not. im really pleased with it and it didn't cost me a thing :)
  11. battery acid over the years was dripping down onto the tray and the support member below, so i filled all the holes i could and welded a peice of bar stock over the top it goes over both sides and is really solid
  12. these are a few of the rust repairs, there mostly good intentions and bandaids but they keep the weather out
  13. anyway's this is it after the 2 year sitting period, i did a few rust repairs and the cabin's finally water tight, i might of gone a little over board and my welding's fairly hopless but im learning ( mostly to set the welder to gas less rather then gas mode)
  14. im not driving it yet as im not sure if it would pass road worthy as it is, and it is a 1976 if the reg is anything to go by, she's got a bit of rust and a timing issue and like 5 little things that bug me and possibly heaps more as time's to come :P but im hopefull ill be able to drive it one day
  15. as it was when i got it :) no carpets, holes in the floor, rust wasnt as bad as it was 2 years later but still it was my first toy and i loved it :)
